The Summer Solstice occurs June 20, 4:09 pm PDT, 0:09 am June 21 Greenwich. It's the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, said to be the time at which "free will" acts more powerfully than any other time. It is a point of decision, and kicks off Summer, the season of work, play, productivity, and lots of sunshine for those of us up north. If you're "down under," remember to have a little compassion for us up here when December 21, the Winter Solstice, rolls around and we're freezing while you're enjoying the beach! What follows explores elements we all can expect to experience over the next 3 months, regardless of where we live.
Today is the end of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the end of Autumn in the Southern. This is an excellent time for looking at what began in the past 90 days, whether new growth or signs of what is ending. This is a point of radical reorientation, whether toward emotional self interest in the Northern Hemisphere or personal power in the Southern.
The next 90 days are in any case a time to decide, consolidate, stabilize, and work toward what will shift at the Autumnal Equinox. We began numerous cycles of new activities during the 2011 Aries conjunctions involving Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars with Uranus and Jupiter. These were solidified and stabilized at the recent planetary conjunctions with Jupiter in Taurus.
Now that Jupiter is in Gemini for this Solstice chart, we shall see new openings, new understandings, new perspectives that help us get clear about what’s in our past, what’s in our present, and how our expectations shape our future, as well as how we interpret that future-in-the-making. This Solstice naturally has many of the same major aspects of yesterday’s New Moon, so please check out the articles on that Lunation to know more about the aspects in play at this Solstice.
The charts for the Summer and Winter Solstices provide guideposts for the symbolic and actual weather that will follow in the 90 days after those points in time, just as charts for the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox each show what will follow in the period after those points in time.
After many years of being an important factor in the Solstice and Equinox charts, Pluto will again prove important in the coming season, as it does in the charts at every change of season during this time in history. Due to Pluto transiting early Capricorn, it has been squared by the Sun at the Spring and Autumn Equinoctal points, and has opposed the Sun at the Summer Solstice point. These are very dynamic aspects that release a lot of energy, and either block or propel events.
Although the Sun is no longer in very close conjunction, square, or opposition to Pluto during these changes of season, since Uranus actually IS in close square to Pluto, there will increasingly be greater Plutonic energies cut loose for years to come! In recent years, we only experienced Uranus square Pluto energy at the 2010 Summer Solstice and to a lesser degree, the 2011 Spring Equinox (since Uranus was almost too wide to be in square).
However, beginning with the 2011 Summer Solstice chart, we’ve confronted an ever-closer square between these two heavyweights impacting every season since then except for the 2011 Winter Solstice. So January through March 2012 was the last season when this square wasn’t a major player, but no more! For several years, this square will be a major influence in all seasonal charts to come!
Squares tend to put the brakes on some things, while indicating a "turning of a corner" in other things. Squares to Pluto often show things going out of control or something extreme happening that results in either a favorable purification or a grinding toxicity. Given that Pluto is one of the anchors of The Grand Irrationality, when squared it releases a lot of energy precipitating situations that move people to make choices that propel them into their destiny.
Pluto is the ultimate transformer. It has figured prominently in both Equinox and Solstice charts of the past few years, and will for a few more years. It has particularly affected charts in 2007, 2008, and 2009 due to it going back and forth over 29-30 Sag and 1-3 Capricorn when it was conjunct the Galactic Center. There are many articles in the archives discussing the Solstice and Equinox charts for those years, so if you're interested please take a look.
This is the fourth Summer Solstice with Pluto in Capricorn. The powerful opposition between the Sun at the beginning of Cancer and Pluto in early Capricorn challenges us to find confidence in the midst of chaotic conditions, and use self-discipline and deep insights to pioneer in new directions. Given the Solstice and Equinox charts show the weather patterns to come, this chart would seemingly indicate some extremes on the way, and may help explain why there have been so many extremes these past 5 years!
This Summer Solstice chart shows all planets except the Moon in the first or third decan of their signs. This indicates a three month period of activity involving the material, actional, mental and spiritual areas of life, with not much on social-cultural levels.
The planets fall in a Splay Jones pattern. This indicates a widely distributed planetary spread that shows a diverse but separated set of interests, with an emphasis on individuality putting itself into different situations that may not harmonize easily. So learn to triangulate when caught between conflicting energies that only come together because you are moving through those experiences.
On this Solstice, we see 4 planets in Water, 3 in Air, 2 in Earth, and 1 in Fire. That makes this a season where feelings will run high, as will the need to connect and share information with others.
In this chart, we find the Moon and Neptune are the only planets in their home sign, making these two the final dispositors for all the energies of the next 90 days. This makes feelings front and center for the next 90 days, and given the Moon is on the first degree of the Scene of Consolidation, one of personality integration, you will get focused through what behaviors and feelings you revert to that show you the core of your Being.
As noted in the most recent New Moon articles, Neptune is very strong, still in the zone of “the cusp of the Age,” and on a degree of “psychic traffic jams.” However, given the very power Sun trine Neptune, this is a season when many dreams can come true, though there also may be more than a few peculiar dreams, visions, omens, and a sense of non-focus. Please refer to the many recent articles on Neptune in Pisces to learn more about this long term peculiar dreamworld energy.
The Moon rules Cancer, so it's the ruler of the Sun. In this chart we find a New Moon in Cancer, indicating the next 90 days are about an emergence of a “new born” instinctive way of expressing and experiencing self-projection into life. Many will seek to express their personal ideals and concepts into the world. Just make sure they’re not confused or scattered.
As I mentioned, most of the important aspects were explained in the New Moon article I published earlier. However, while in that chart the Sun and Moon made no forming aspects, in this chart there are several important forming aspects, as well as aspects active two days ago that have passed. The most prominent forming aspects made by the Moon in this Solstice chart are the conjunction to Mercury, semisquare Jupiter, and square Saturn, along with the Sun in a forming trine to Neptune and opposition to Pluto, both explained a few paragraphs up.
Other important forming aspect include Mercury semisquare Venus, sextile Mars, and septile Jupiter, Venus tredecile Mars, conjunct Jupiter, sesquisquare Saturn, sextile Uranus and square Neptune, Mars biseptile Pluto, Jupiter sextile Uranus, square Neptune, and biquintile Pluto, and the ominous (and extremely tight!) Uranus square Pluto. Many of these were active in the New Moon chart, so you can go there for further explanations of most of these.
Overall these indicate a lot of productivity with more than a few inner crises and annoyances. Get clear, stay clear, see the bigger picture, and stay focused on motives, especially if you find yourselves in a disordered or chaotic situation. Though the Mercury square Saturn is past, with the Moon in Cancer forming a square to Saturn, it’s collecting the light and re-activating that square.
I described the hot zones and effects of Mercury septile Jupiter in part 1 of the Gemini New Moon articles, so go there for more info about how this may affect you personally. The other non-rational influence over the next 90 days can be seen in the Mars biseptile Pluto. This is an extremely powerful “turning point” combination, and primarily affects 23-26 Virgo, 14-17 Scorpio, 6-9 Capricorn, 27-30 Aquarius, 19-22 Aries, 11-14 Gemini, and 2-5 Leo. If you have a planet or point in any of these 7 zones, expect dramatic shifts, choices, and developments that throw you into some very intense experiences!
The North Node shows us the line of greatest development is to open to broader and wider truths, and through getting a new vision, we can find peace and lucidity in knowing things that others may not be seeing. The South Node indicates these growth patterns will demonstrate as “explosive feelings and root emotions” showing us how to let go of old forms of understanding and communicating so we can “reach beyond established forms.”
Given that Saturn is going stationary direct just a few days from now, this Summer we'll begin to launch a new life by heralding the day that is yet to dawn. Find ways to creatively and joyously respond to opportunities for life renewals while staying balanced and continuing to pay your dues. Given the new insights into what’s below the surface of daily living resulting from the recent Solar Eclipse, along with the voids created by being liberated from the ghosts of the past since last Summer continuing for a couple of years to come, stay focused on the big picture and greater truths and futures being revealed.
Given the lack of oppositions, the coming 90 days probably won’t provide much in the way of awareness, though the Jupiter square Neptune and Uranus square Pluto indicate major conflicts that can get very confusing. That’s certainly the case in the American political scene, where untruths are asserted as fact, deflections offered as response to legitimate concerns, and it seems we’re in a sandstorm of lies, half-truths, and deceptive arguments that are impossible to rebut, since those who assert these are not listening.
There are significant corners to be turned as a result of these two major squares. Jupiter square Neptune shows the formalization of new ideas and perspectives, even if they are erroneous. The antidote to any problems with this square are to accept help from the invisible realms and getting over preconceptions while maintaining innocence, and seeing the entire dance as a chess game helping you focus on the essentials of what must be learned and taught in the way of basic human skills.
Uranus square Pluto in this chart shows that over the next 90 days there will be some extreme and potentially violent events, where there is maximum volatility in the public arena. This is about understanding what is contributing to any disorder, and the antidotes are to return to source and re-identify ourselves with our “triple essence of being” while reaching out to find elementary understanding about some basic truths of life.
In other words, if you’re in a dispute, keep it simple, fair, balanced, and understand that you’re probably dealing with primal feelings and defenses. You can bet there will be some very primitive instinctual behaviors come forth that may be totally out of balance, and we can expect extreme weather, both psychic and actual, from these two aspects.
As noted, we continue to be liberated from the past, so release of old pressures you no longer need to bear to catch new understanding and insights into things others may not be seeing. With Mercury sextile Mars and both Venus and Jupiter sextile Uranus, it should be a productive season to the degree we concentrate to see the big picture and don’t get needlessly detached or start drifting.
It’s a time to integrate, to see all conflict as a mandala showing you the maze of your mind, or perhaps even human existence itself. Here we must integrate “diverse contents” within an understanding of a larger encompassing whole. There are opportunities to come to a new formal understanding of things, along with a lot of internal crises due to aroused feelings that are conflicted due to recent difficult or challenging information or understanding.
So the next few weeks will continue to bring us new understanding to the degree we're willing to continue to let go of obsolete ideas and behaviors. It’s a period when we should continue to demonstrate deep compassion and/or understanding, allowing ourselves to be attracted to people and situations that show us our Spiritual group work.
Though this time seems perilous thanks to the very intense major squares that keep hammering everyone on Earth, showing as widespread discontent, revolution, and social breakdown, we have nothing to fear. Things are changing rapidly, and fear of the unknown has no place since in fact you're being guided to the sanctuary you began to search for around 6-7 years ago.
So look at what has ended, what is emerging, and make decisions to reorient toward your new life and initiatives. This is the time when many will attract ideas and allies they need to further the outreach. Discover what needs to be seen, open to associations that renew your spirit, and get clear about how the details relate to the bigger picture.
Don’t get distracted by the lack of clarity in things, and keep finding ways to communicate with others, as well as understand internal communications or the lack thereof. This is a time of diversification and flow, concentration and letting go, decision and growth into humor and larger perspectives. We continue to move through a long wave period when past will separate from present so that the new future already embraced can move ahead with no ghosts from the past to encumber it.
Aum, blessings, and Happy Summer Solstice as we stand on the threshold of a new season of life! Let go of fear, let go of memories, let go of narrow views and interpretations, and stay focused on the rising sun that’s on the way.

So it will be really intense, but I hope we can transform a lot. Thank you for your support, it is really of great help!

This is so clear and so right on...
I've been astounded by the primal feelings of others..but I can see the bigger picture, thru the fog. This so aptly describes the moment.
Thanks as always

Robert.
HUGE shifts yesterday. LOOKS like more on the way opening up this week. hold on to my hat stuff feels like spin cycle in the washer just going for the ride.I don"T have any of those points in signs. Is it because I am a pluto being? hum Cathy

Cathy, I felt the same shifts yesterday...and wow---they were a huge eye-opener! A couple of breakthroughs for me happened---one good, and one bad. I had been working on these things really hard for a few months, and when I finally let go of one last week or so, a good breakthrough happened in my favor...the other, I didn't let it go, and a breakthrough not in my favor happened and it made me feel like so much time and energy had been wasted. I was disgusted with myeslf...but today, I'm letting it go, knowing my non-presence in the matter will be noticed, and the effects of this journey over the next four weeks will turn it around; however, by that time, I may not care anymore...we'll see. In the meantime, I also witnessed a major shift in a friend I haven't spoken to in four months...ahhh, the universe finally spoke to her. Mercury goes retro in the middle of July, and I see several connections coming into my life after some disconnect within the past few months or so, stemming from these shifts...we'll see.
Robert, when you speak about zones, are you speaking about the degrees a sign is from a planet?

Indigo 225--yes,yes.yes.

Hi all - This will be a season when things really heat up! As a metal Rabbit, I don't like discord, but we're definitely in for a wild ride these next 89 days!
Hi Indigo225 - When I speak of zones, I am referring to the span of degrees where an aspect is more or less in full force.

Thanks Robert. I can feel the time is right for "something" while not knowing exactly what, but seeing my North Node sits right on 14 Scorpio with Venus on 23 Virgo both in the 6th, and Vesta at 21 Aries in the 12th, I guess that "something" is on its way! Thanks for the insight Robert.

Happy Blessings to you too Robert!

Cathy---we're in this together...so, hold on tight and ride the wave. :)
Robert---thank you for addressing the zones. I know you have addressed in the past, but my memory gets away from me at times, and decides to go by the way side. :)

Thanks for the heads up! I've been quite solomn indulge with staying put working on projects that were placed on the back burner. Staying creative, crafty. Polishing talents and reinventing a new style of living an authentic life. Focusing on authenticness of others. And, if their not performing from the Truest Nature without masks 'n' costumes, intuitely I've got to let go.
Warmest Wishes for a Awesome Autumn!!
