This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's New Moon in Cancer. This one requires that we rise to some occasion, reground ourselves in Source, be appreciative and productive in many life areas, and be willing to allow new heart strengths to come forth in unique ways.
This Lunation shows planets widely distributed around the signs. We begin with the usual "anchoring" occupied span between Pluto in Capricorn through Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Aries. This chart also shows Venus and Jupiter in Gemini , the Lunation in Cancer, Mercury retrograde in Leo, and both Mars and Saturn in Libra. This gives a very wide spread to the chart since it involves 7 signs all widely spread apart.
This "Splay" Jones Patterns indicates a widely spread out experience, with many strong involvements in areas that may not have that much in common. The tripod of the pattern involves 4 planets in Air signs making strong trines, opening us to discoveries and new communications. As Venus leads this Lunation, it makes the area in our charts where we have Gemini of extra importance, since this promises a pleasant, beautiful, and/or balanced elegance to what we’re discovering through this Cancer New Moon.
So wherever we have Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Libra in our charts is active, with Gemini and Libra the crowded sectors due to the presence of the 4 planets in Air. The general theme is that we are opening to new relationships, new ideas, new perceptions, and new understanding about what we should and should not claim, with the need to share our discoveries to test their validity. The very favorable sextiles and trines made between the planets in Aries, Gemini, Leo, and Libra offer inspired ideas and interactions, with creativity and originality favored to the max!
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes no forming major aspects except the septile to Jupiter. This indicates that other than the forks in the road in our life affairs wherever we have early Gemini and late Cancer, this is a somewhat disconnected time where most of what we’re externalizing has already been revealed in the past. To know more about the actives zones being triggered by these septiles, please consult New Moon in Cancer Pt. 1 - What’s Happening in July-August 2012
That said, of course there are important forming aspects made by other planets. These include Mercury, ruler of the planets in Gemini, in very favorable sextiles to Mars and Jupiter, quintile Saturn, and trine Uranus. That alone shows this will be a time when we can get a LOT accomplished in short order! Other forming aspects include Venus novile Sun, trine Saturn, and biseptile Neptune (triggering the Grand Irrationality!), Mars trine Jupiter (via Mercury collecting the light), widely conjunct Saturn and in a tight biquintile with Neptune, Jupiter sesquisquare Saturn and sextile Uranus, Saturn quinitile Pluto, and the ever-present Uranus square Pluto.
So Mercury knits together 4 points of a Great Sextile, with voids at 7-13 degrees of Sag and Aquarius, opening new futures and larger goals and ambitions through maximum productivity and stabilized harmony. Another important Mercury factor gives us many gifts and high specialization. Though separating biquintile Pluto, due to forming aspects we also see Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto anchoring three points of a Great Quintile! This promises special events, gifts, and circumstances that will be uniquely favorable for those with planets or points around 10-14 Leo, 22-26 Libra, 4-8 Capricorn, 16-20 Pisces, and 28 Taurus to 2 Gemini.
Venus biseptile Neptune sets the Grand Irrationality into motion wherever we have Taurus, Gemini, Libra, and Pisces in our maps. Expect some major choices involving relationships and ideals. As noted in the recent article Astrology in July 2012 - The Grand Irrationality In Motion Triggering the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, many of the important choices and changes occurring now are directly related to the endings that have happened since last year, and this period continues the process. Please refer to the linked article to see which degree zones are being activated at present.
The remarkable things about this New Moon is the lack of frictional aspects except for Jupiter sesquisquare Saturn and Uranus square Pluto. The sesquisquare is agitating, but not crisis producing. There will be challenging discoveries that will offer us opportunities to be creative in expressing new heart strengths, and it’ll be important to remember to show heart, maturity, and gratitude for renewed opportunities, renewed communications, and renewed ability to feed that which we could learn to love.
I’ve discussed Uranus square Pluto to such a degree that I won’t go back into it here. Just remember that we live in a time of the collision of major spiritual forces working at cross purposes to each other. That also means that there is a collision in the material world between conflicting energies, with revolution and renewal challenging the status quo and its assumptions of authority and order. We’ll be dealing with this for a number of years, so keep learning skills and the ability to shift on your own initiative toward that which you should care about, with grace and inner equilibrium.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 27 Cancer. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The symbol for the 27th degree of Cancer is “A storm in a canyon.” According to Rudhyar, this degree is one of “Intensification of elements necessary to arouse latent possibilities,” “rising to the occasion,” and “A descent of cosmic power.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves “A confrontation with a social upheaval demanding the reconsideration of static values.” Here we are “challenged by forces beyond our control,” and won’t be able to depend on the usual “standards and values” we’ve acquired.
He says that this degree challenges us to rise to the occasion, and “undergo an inner metamorphosis” by accepting the crisis as a personal challenge leading us to some form of catharsis. He says it falls in the span of "Ingenuousness,” and it’s the second degree of the individual mental level of the scene of Consolidation in the Act of Stabilization.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “a pyramiding reality” in terms of external circumstances, or “of violence and terror as divine in their capacity for lifting (us) out of (our) aplomb and demanding some manifestation of (our) inner ideals and enduring values.” Here is “the indomitable integrity of everything to be taken as a consequence in its own right, shown in the energy with which it preserves itself.”
He continues that “nature ever dramatizes (humanity’s) unleashed powers, or (our) ability to rise in supremacy over each momentary crisis.” He offers us the keyword of INTENSIFICATION. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "an enlistment of every resource in life for a heightened expression of self.”
So we enter a time of intensification, where we will get some form of “descent of cosmic power” that challenges us to rise to some occasion to arouse latent possibilities. Here we focus our self-expression, and can be lifted out of an old comfort zone to manifest our “inner ideals and enduring values.” Here we confront momentary crises so we can “rise in supremacy” over nature forces.
Through Mercury retrograde, we'll continue to get new insights into our play, creativity, way of expressing ourselves with sophistication and polish in social setups, and can explore and rehearse new forms of self-expression. Because Mercury rules Venus and Jupiter, we may get insights into previous difficult relationships, opportunities that went off the rails, or truths that were later seen in a different light. We can certainly get a new look at why we like what we like, and why we believe in the philosophy we do, or have the motives we have.
Of the planets that rule signs, there are 2 planets in Fire signs, 1 in Earth, 4 in Air, and 3 in Water. This preponderance of Air indicates a focus on ideas and relationships, with some solid and stabilizing interactions. With only Pluto in an Earth sign, use your innate practicality to keep things grounded as you move through the various interactions and feelings indicated by all the other preponderating elements.
Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot, so with the balance of 5 planets in each pair of elements, expect times of intense and immediate feelings that must be balanced with some detachment and cool. It’s great for inspired thinking that moves everything forward, even if it seems at times like we’re going sideways or even backwards thanks to Mercury retrograde.
Speaking of Pluto in Capricorn, the Cosmic Purifier continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.
In the past months we've solidified new roles, new values, and new resources. We're now living some form of the new archetypal roles we began to move into in 2009-2010, and can grow into higher views and truths about basic human skills, expressed through the merging of our higher and lower mind in pleasant and enjoyable discoveries and expressions of what is and what could be.
The next 4 weeks is a time to open to new ways of viewing how to express knowledge that will benefit us in the present and future. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011 being activated by Venus in the recent past and Jupiter now through the Spring of 2013, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear. Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. I've included links to those Eclipse articles.
As you know, in late May we had another important Solar Eclipse that will open us to newer, deeper insights even as it shuts down even more of the Gemini areas of our lives. I’ve added links to those articles so you can check out how it continues the pattern of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, and adds a new dimension of understanding what’s ending and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Jupiter in Gemini continues to invite us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of seeing what’s fair and what isn’t. We can take the patience we’ve cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus between June 2011 and June 2012 and open to alternative ways of understanding what’s opening for us over the next year. This allows us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."
In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to break free from old “privileged points of view,” and allow our ego to be repolarized by accepting there are things breaking through from subconsciousness that demand recognition.
In this Lunation Jupiter is teaching us to act in our own interests if some element of our life fails to provide us with the creative outlet we need. Here the “instabilities of life” help us to direct accomplishment and a “constructive reorganization” of our affairs. This is a time to assert ourselves, refusing to accept the lesser when greater things are at stake.
In previous weeks, we had chances to adjust our perspective and become more natural and joyous. Due to Venus being retrograde in the May 2012 Solar Eclipse in Gemini, during the time that Eclipse is in force we'll get more than one new look at old values, people, and experiences related to these as they impacted our past. This will lead to some melt-downs by late June and into July, helping us break free of lingering ghosts of old relationship patterns and how we could or could not communicate our likes and dislikes without getting deflected or scattered by others.
The guiding force in that Eclipse indicates that we are now growing into new games, new rules, new skills, and new cooperation. This will confirm some things, while opening new perspectives around self and subconsciousness. We are growing into new heart strengths, a new compassion, and a new wisdom that will dominate our lives over the next month. Focus on capturing rewards that help you enjoy life to a greater extent, and don't worry about "limiting conditions," since it will result in a new strength, as well as repair something so that some final dues are paid and old karmas left behind.
That Eclipse will shut down old ideas, understandings, and interpretations that will open new doors of perception for the next 3 + years. Keep growing into a larger view, a greater Truth, and a wider future while cultivating a sense of humor at divergences in opinion and perception.
This Lunation shows the need to see what we care for, and how we can rouse ourselves to enjoy life to a greater degree, and/or renew an old creativity or self-expression. Lead with your feelings, then make decisions on the basis of those feeling ideas. Then get a new view through opening to new information and a new understanding, even if it seems those ideas or views are grounded in the past.
So feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced (even if it seems that the past is a bit too powerful given the present!) and then move into decisions and actions on the basis of those feeling-insights. After you do what must be done, then find a new view, new information, and new understanding.
This will be an arousing New Moon period, where we can shake free of old attitudes and approaches. We can get insights and get a lot in motion during this time of maximum productivity with quite a few unique gifts and interactions to boot. Here we get harmonious and stable interactions with others in the midst of arousing conditions, and can find renewal in “going to source” an re-identifying with our “triple essence of Being.” Just keep letting go of obsolete ideas and interpretations, and check out your interpretations to see the past from a new angle of understanding.
This time is one of transformation, with little practicality but a maximum of feeling, inventiveness, and revolution! Concentrate, see the whole picture, welcome opportunities to integrate your personality through your feelings, and see your ideas as things to be explored, shared, and rounded out. This time can help us know what we’re feeling and allow those feelings to lead us into direct action that will change how we view things.
So despite things being spread out all over the map, we can still mobilize creatively and achieve inspired action during the next 4 weeks. We can heal into a greater mastery, a greater compassion, and a greater ability to see things from multiple angles of understanding, and express it with precision, discipline, and efficiency to the degree that we attune to the invisible world and the helpers we have there.
Whatever has been scattered up to now, weave it all together to demonstrate your skill and virtuosity in expressing your unique song within the greater whole. This is the final threshold in which we get one last look back, as we continue our journey into unknown zones.
Take a broad view, don’t get stuck in narrow or rigid interpretations, share what needs to be shared, and relax into playing the role you were born to place. This is the emergence of a new way of caring and living, so get ready for a new self-expression as we go “back to the future.”

Gemini and Libra have been quite effected alot this year?? I am a libra(6 degrees) and my bestie is a gemini, and we both feel like we have learned alot and experienced alot already this year-positive! but also feel like we've been thru the ringer!! and your site has definately helped us anticipate some things, and appreciate some of these things. but ive just found it so odd, that our two signs have been listed in your articles frequently lately. Is there anything in particular we should know?

Wow...excellent article!!! I expressed feelings on this sight the other day, about how I had returned to the past/scene of an original crime, and I re-acted differently...which has shifted things. But the mind-boggling part is....that what I was "accusing-pointing my finger at...was also in me"....hence the scene, being the basement...my shadow. I have natal moon in the 8th house...and sun in 2nd (scorpio) and north node in the 12th Libra.
As I see, that I am looking in the mirror....I am seeing so many angry people...and wonder how come the switch that turns on the anger...seems to be stuck in the ON posistion. Once people get angry...they seem to stay there...and then years later, it becomes a part of their personality...and like a magnet, they keep pulling the same to them. We are unable to see ourselves? or to even look? or take responsibility for our actions...
As I have north node in the 12th house...I see part of my path, is to learn/express forgiveness...."When the student is ready, the teacher will appear".
Great article Robert..thank you! :-)

Hi WHR,
I have N Node in Libra in the 12th too (along w my sun and Pluto), and I enjoyed both part 1 and 2 of your comments. I appreciated what you said about forgiveness. Just thought I'd add a refinement that came from Robert about that placement-- a subtle point that I hadn't heard before. He pointed out that though N Node in Libra points to responsiveness and reflection in relationship to others, the fact that it is in the 12th suggests that the orientation of our adjustment is in relationship to *ourselves*, taking our own lead and bringing others along, not accomodating to others. That was incredibly helpful and clarifying for me. I think the 2nd part of your comment shows just this kind of internal adjustment to your relationship with your own internal parts. It also is consistent with the theme of the original dilemma you posed.
Just thought I'd share those reflections as a member of your n node tribe, WHR. Robert, thank you again for creating the community of this cantina (and of course, please do correct me if I've paraphrased you incorrectly or missed something of the direction of the n node placement).

Hi, Robert and Friends, ( I'm an Aquarian Sun, Mercury & Mars native). It's a wonderfully insightful time in understanding the radical new paradigm that is birthing (albeit painfully) in our lives and world(s). Venus and Jupiter (Gemini), gratefully, are giving us such welcomed healing relief (of the mind) from the feverish intensity most of us have been experiencing in the deconstruction (pluto) of unsustainable and imbalanced (Saturn/Libra) structures and relationships in our lives. Robert, I would like to recommend a powerful book, "Wetiko, The Greatest Epidemic Sickness Known To Humanity" . Wetiko, for those who aren't familiar with it, is native american (Cree) word that describes the parasitic energy form that has corrupted our society, people and institutions. To quote Sting "The world would be a better place if everyone read this book". The author, Paul Levy, although not an astrologer, relates to archetypes that we (your reader's) will recognize; Hermes/Mercury and Saturn/Chronos, to language his description of our world, out of balance, at the crossroads of extinction & rebirth. Respectively submitted for your consideration, BK

Thankyou for the recommendation of Wetiko-this is a great referral for me personally....[to commenter], and for the great article as always!

How do people follow your articles? They are so complicated. Do you read Susan Miller, how she writes for the common man?
Posted by: baba | July 26, 2012 at 07:18 AM
Hi Baba - I write for professional and amateur astrologers as well as those who can benefit from the information that's always there if you read the explanations that accompany the astrological terms. The terms are in there for students of the craft, the explanations are there for all. I've been writing for many years, and never had any complaints from "the common man." The well provides water for all, but each must develop the skill to lower the bucket and bring up the water.
Part of what we do here is cultivate critical thinking skills, since those are extremely important as our Spirit/Souls (Atma-Buddhi) navigate this 4 dimensional reality. The mind (Manasic principle, both dense and subtle) must be stretched beyond its comfort zones if it is to become the finely tuned instrument that helps us stay focused on actively practicing the antidotes for suffering, all of which arise in the mind. As for being complicated, well, I find life pretty complicated and simple at the same time. And even if you don't know a language, much can be communicated and understood by sharpening perception and subtle senses.

Dear Robert:
Your work is fantastic! I greatly appreciate all your insights and many articles. I tune in every few days to see what is new. Thank you for this service.May I ask you a favor, that I believe will benefit all your readers. Could you post the date of the article underneath the Headline. Coming in and out, it is often difficult to track what is new, and what one has already read. I think by posting the date at the top, it will make it easier for readers to keep track.
Thank you again for all you do!!
Posted by: Sarai | July 31, 2012 at 07:58 PM
Hi Sarai - The date of the article is always at the bottom, just under the copyright and above the Technorati tags. On the front page, it's under the lower link where it says "continue reading (title of the article)." It's there under every article on the front page as well as the whole article. And of course, thanks for your praise of the work.
