This post falls in the good news department. The title stems from a concept offered by our old friend the I Ching. Sometimes we truly ARE “enriched through unfortunate events.” A perfect example is the recent DNC cancellation of the stadium event resulted in 8000 pounds of food being distributed to food banks across the Charlotte area.
Courtesy of the McClatchy story, Local charities benefit from 8,000 pounds of food leftover from DNC’s canceled stadium event, we read that “All the fancy catered food intended for the VIP suites and club rooms at the stadium – and perhaps even for the president himself – was redistributed Friday to local soup kitchens and shelters, via Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.”
More from the story:
”None of this food will go to waste. We contacted every shelter and soup kitchen in town and asked them how much refrigeration capacity they have and how many are they feeding. It will all be gone at the end of the day.”Second Harvest has a history of redistributing fresh food at a moment’s notice, she said, including leftovers from major golf tournaments.
However, the Democratic National Convention’s gift is different, if only for the inclusion of enough popcorn for 70,000 people, popped and stuffed into bags. It will go to the community’s various children’s programs, including low-income day cares. “At least it doesn’t weigh a lot,” Carter said.

Why Feeding America? Because until 4 years ago, it was known as "America’s Second Harvest," which is now more of a local brand for an integrated national effort to end hunger in the US. From Wikipedia,
Feeding America is a United States-based non-profit organization. It consists of a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks and food rescue and organizations that serve virtually every county in the United States as well as Puerto Rico. It is the nation's leading hunger-relief charity, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The organization supports approximately 50,000 local charitable agencies operating more than 90,000 programs including pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, and Kids Cafes… Feeding America was known as America's Second Harvest until August 31, 2008
So the Dem political insiders didn’t get to do their monster party and the poor are getting fed! Seems like a great symbolic moment for our US parties. The Dems downsize their closing event/party and the food goes to the poor. The Repubs cancel their opening night event/party and nothing benefits the poor.
At least someone did the right thing. There’s no excuse for hunger in the 21st century. You can find more on who’s doing what by checking out the right hand links under “Ending Hunger Links.” All four of those organizations are doing great work, each in their own ways. May no one go hungry again as soon as possible!

Nice! good to be aware that some folk are benefitting from the losses of those who dont need such luxury instead of making a profit out of people losing their basic needs, like houses. It lifts ones spirit and increases rational hope :)
