A "progressive voice for millions" just checked out and left the building. I voted for him in 1972, hoping that a rematch of "peace and justice" would best "law and order." Alas, it was not to be. In retrospect, it's hard to say if Nixon actually "won," since within a thousand days he was kicked out of the presidency in disgrace. I suppose that's some kind of karmic justice, even if the rest of us were stuck with the wreckage of Republican dirty tricks and a political system that had become very ugly and violent toward American citizens. RIP George. You were truly a peaceful warrior.
wonderful human being. fought to fight hunger, did great works in feeding many.RIP

As a resident of South Dakota I am particularly sad that we have just lost such a great man. I also have heard that Russell Means made the journey to the spirit world this morning. It seems that we are indeed having a changing of the guard. RIP to both these men of South Dakota who each in their own way fought against injustice.

Hi cathy and dcu - yes, it seems we're seeing good ones check out at the end of a long and well run life. Maybe South Dakota will now have two more coming forth. Their energy still exists. Some will hear the call and respond in ways appropriate to our times.
