Astrology in 2012 – A Look At The Chart for Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy may be one of the most destructive storms in US history. Millions without power, food, or gasoline. Lower Manhattan still without power. Staten Island devastated, along with almost the entire coastline of NJ. Hundreds of thousands evacuated from mid-Atlantic states. I have the chart for when and where it came ashore.

(I would have posted this yesterday, but I was on the road and my connectivity was almost nonexistent. Will figure that out tomorrow.)

Hurricane Sandy came ashore about 8 pm, Oct 29, around Port Republic, NJ. Here’s the story from one of the local papers in that part of NJ,

The first hurricane in recorded history to strike the Jersey Shore—a massive storm packing winds up to 97 mph—has hit land, shutting down the state's infrastructure, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands and leaving an untold number of people stranded by flooding.

The Atlantic Ocean is now creeping and pouring into the streets of Point Pleasant Beach, Long Beach Township and many other communities along the Jersey Shore, a region that had never felt the 90-mph winds and paths of destruction caused by a direct hurricane strike.

Weather forecasters say the center of Hurricane Sandy hit Atlantic City around 8 p.m., about five miles east of Galloway Township and 10 miles north of Atlantic City. The city's casino industry shut down for the fourth time since gaming was legalized in New Jersey in 1978.

The weird thing about this hurricane was that it was only a Category 1 tropical storm almost its entire movement up the Eastern Seaboard. It had winds in the 70s. Then it quickened and widened into an extratropical storm, and then just before it hit was reclassified into a post tropical storm. The point here is that most storms decrease in strength as they get closer to land, but Sandy’s winds increased up to 97 mph just as it hit, which is very unusual.

I also found out that high tide was 8:53 pm NY time. Though flooding was already rampant in that part of the world before high tide, that time puts 29 Gemini 54 on the Ascendant. A few seconds later the Ascendant was at the critical degree of 1 Cancer, which squares Venus and triggers a lot of prior chart effects left over from 2010-2011 when the first degree of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn were set as trigger points. These degrees are also critical since when the Sun transits them it marks the beginning of the seasons.

I'm sure the chart for the 2012 Autumnal Equinox would reveal something of the weather pattern that just devastated the US East coast. I'll add here that 18 Scorpio was rising in the NY/NJ shore Equinox charts, with a fairly afflicted Mars rising at 20 Scorpio and North Node at 28 Scorpio.

Things that jump out from that chart include Sun exactly quincunx Neptune in the 4th, Venus square Mars with Mars triseptile Jupiter and exactly sesquisquare Uranus and semisquare Pluto with Uranus exactly square Pluto. This makes 4 points of a Great Octile in operation. I suspect this hurricane has had an impact or been a disruption for places and people whose charts have active points near 3-7 Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, as well as 18-22 Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

Anyway, here are a few observations about the chart for when this record storm came ashore. First, it built speed during the entire time Mars was opposed Jupiter, which culminated 8:56 am EDT Oct 28. When Sandy hit on Oct 29, it was still less than a degree and a half separating, said from antiquity to be a very powerful time when aspects show clear effects. And we note that at exactly 8 pm EDT, Jupiter was exactly rising at 16 Gemini, with the Ascendant opposed Mars setting on the 7th angle. VERY powerful configuration!!

Jupiter and Neptune are usually primary suspects in flood charts. At the exact time the storm hit, Neptune was at 0 Pisces 24, and TransPluto was at 0 Virgo 24. Their opposition is exact, to the minute! I spoke a little about this troublesome opposition when Neptune was in late Aquarius and TransPluto was in late Leo in the article Global Spiritual Astrology – Neptune Conjunct Chiron in Aquarius Opposition TransPluto a.k.a. Percephone or Divine Mother pt 2, and will be exploring this very powerful line of tension between the collective Consciousness and Divine Mother in a future article.

Though this opposition is a constant, it was exact to the minute for the time this storm hit the Eastern seaboard. AND! Mercury was at 0 Sagittarius 37, making an exact Mutable T-square to the opposition. Though separating by 13 minutes, that makes it very powerful! That also implies some residual effects when Mercury is retrograde and again makes the T-square at the exact time of the coming Solar Eclipse at 22 Scorpio on Nov 13, 2:08 pm PST, 5:08 EST, 10:08 pm Greenwich.

Of note was the Moon’s Sabian Symbol for when Hurricane Sandy hit shore. We see the Moon was just past the Full at 9 Taurus, “A Christmas tree decorated.” Rudhyar in “The Astrological Mandala” states this degree is “the ability to create inner happiness in dark hours.”

Dr. Jones always insisted the Sabian Symbols should not be taken literally, but the Moon on this degree of “dark hours” during one of the biggest power outages in US history seems a bit too close! Rudhyar’s commentary continues the Christmas tree metaphor to state this is about the group ability to create “abundance, beauty, and happiness within, overcoming the cold barrenness of the outside world.” I suspect given the widespread devastation, there will be quite a bit of community togetherness this holiday season, with many helping those who have lost everything.

This symbol also involves “faith in a transformed future,” and Dr. Jones offers this is a degree of “self-renewal through a sharing with others,” and forging ties through reciprocity in sharing possessions where “enjoyment becomes increasingly vicarious and spiritual.” He says when positive, this degree offers us “complete self-satisfaction through a simple sharing of (our) potentials with others.”

For those who are into the “Fixed Stars,” I’ll note the South Node is exactly conjunct Algol at 27 Taurus. From antiquity Algol has been considered a malevolent influence. The Moon began to conjunct its own South Node on Oct 30, and conjuncted Algol early Oct 31.

Then the Moon entered the void zone of the Mercury T-square throughout Oct 31, squaring Neptune and TransPluto and opposing Mercury. Things began to be restored to some semblance of normalcy on Nov 1, when the Moon sextiled Uranus and trined Venus, then conjuncted Jupiter while biquintiling the Sun, quintiling Uranus and tredeciling Venus. As Venus opposed Uranus on Nov 1, it’s probably a very good thing that there were positive mitigating aspects that helped that line of tension lead to productive results.

Up here the weather experts said "It was a Noreaster with a hurricane in it" unheard of, unimaginable until now. Perfect storm of 2 systems becoming one. Lowest barametic pressure in eye ever recorded. All bets off from here, I would think.

The biggest earthquakes have happened in Dragon years. And in this year of the Water Dragon, water catastrophies are to be expected.

Absolutely correct Diana. Especially Ocean water events/disasters coming/happening in or from the South East are happening in this Water Dragon year. Sandy came/originated out of the South East. Feng Shui Master Raymond Lo predicted all these developments and many others in his lecture from October 2011. I have a few of the points you mentioned. My north node is 4 Capricorn, my Sun is 16 12 House Aquarius.
I live in New Jersey, have no power since Monday eve, in my house. In my office nothing was effected.
I have Venus Capricorn so I conclude that my work is where I flourish.

That is an aside. Really I'd like to affirm what you wrote above about chart sensitive points and people's lives.
Also, I agree that the Sabian of finding inner happiness and meaning, is the major strength of this calamity.

Always appreciate your writings and teachings. One aspect that I've noticed, more troubling to me when I saw it, regarding the elections. However, I think this can apply to this horrific storm as well. Asteroid Lucifer is now conjunct Mars in Sag--and will, be there for the election. If Sag is nature, natural law--along with Mars, may emphasize more of the negative duality of Lucifer. I won't go into more here, but this Mars/Lucifer in Sag also makes some very precise aspects with both of the Presidential candidates' carts as well.

I know I'm a day or so late, but do you have any commentary on the possibility that HAARP contributed to the increased devastation?

I am from Howard Beeach, NY an area in Queens that hasn't gotten as much media attention as some of the other affected areas, but has faced just as much devastation, due to its location on the bay. I'm curious about Pluto's involvement in this storm. The entire bay flooded into the streets of this neighborhood bringing with it sewage and waste (Pluto) that spilled into houses - basements in particular - (Pluto) and can still be seen on the streets and smelled in the air one week later. Power has only been restored to a small percentage of residents, leaving most of the neighborhood in complete darkness (Pluto, again) and as a result, a curfew was implemented due to looting. The criminal act of looting I would think is Mars, but the lurking in the darkness and hiding in the shadows I would think is Pluto's domain.
Also worth noting...Ceres had just stationed direct in Cancer the night of Sandy. Cancer obviously is water, and the tides, but it also rules homes and families. Ceres in mythology was the "grieving mother" and can signify a loss...

I followed the hurricane, in a psychic way the whole way through, and a few notes.

Was it HAARP and weather controlled. (no doubt in my mind, it was)

The Hurricane occurred quite close to Plum Island. Which is a government cesspool and study of animal disease.

A 7.7 earthquake round about the same time occurred at the site of the worlds largest bio-engineering took place.

Rikers Island holding 12,000 prisoners, why were they not evacuated? And why so many prisoners on a island is beyond me.
