This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's Scorpio Solar Eclipse Lunation chart which will throw us into new magnetics, new long term patterns of growth through losses and self-transcendence, where we can shed old “skins of personality” and come out transformed, combining beauty and functionality. Let go and open up!
This Lunation, along with the inner planets, stretches out the usual "anchoring" occupied span running between Pluto in Capricorn through Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Aries to Jupiter in Gemini. In this Total Eclipse, the inner planets plus Saturn occupy Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. This indicates we are experiencing a lot of these energies leading into those other, “outer” transpersonal collective tendencies we all live within. We now are experiencing 2/3 of the signs occupied with an empty third.
This "Locomotive" Jones Patterns indicates a wide and imbalanced experience that can lead to power if the correct “counterweight” can be found. We are experiencing Libra through Gemini, with Cancer, Leo, and Virgo energies lacking. Find or BE the correct manifestation of those energies and you’ll be part of the corrective force wherever you are.
The imbalance must be addressed in some way. If there’s an imbalance in your life that requires some form of “counterweight” then take care of it. There are 2 planets in Air, 3 in Fire, 4 in Water, and the outermost 2 in Earth. That shows a heavy emphasis on feelings and experiences, inspiration and activity, with ease of relationship and communications, but not much practical energy. As Saturn leads this Lunation, it makes the area in our charts where we have Scorpio of extra importance, since it shows that our responsibilities and Dharma must be the primary mover of all experience, and that we will be given opportunities through what is lost or eliminated to build something that endures and brings long term stability.
Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot, so with more planets in Water and Fire, it will be a fairly emotionally charged time, with a lot of ideas and very little cool-headed practicality. It will be a time of reviewing ideas and old truths and understandings to regenerate something that once inspired us. We can productively build, but it’s for the future. Think of this time as building emotional and spiritual capital.
So wherever we have Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, Gemini, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius in our charts is active, with the last two signs crowded sectors due to the presence of the 5 planets there. The general theme is that through our relationships and “inherited wisdom” over the next 4 weeks (and 3+ years!) we can see what will stabilize us in the future, while reviewing and/or remembering old inspiring truths and views in order to eliminate and regenerate patterns of future growth.
The next 4 weeks are a time to intensify our striving, leading with traditional wisdom to understand stabilizing factors, then move into new ideas, truths, and potentials while transcending our old sense of self. The very favorable Venus quintile to Pluto offers unique in-depth insights and experiences in relationships that can help us understand how things are more stable than they used to be.
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes only one major forming aspect, while the other planets make several important and specializing forming aspects.
The only forming aspect the Lunation makes is the close semisquare to Pluto, showing that the brakes will be put on old roles and ways of projecting power, and many will realize some internal crisis around what is lost and what needs attracting. This aspect will lead many to confront internal toxic feelings and attitudes, and with the NN in Scorpio, this promises “gain through loss.”
Find a core reference when you’re in the middle of a bunch of unformed stuff swirling around. Use self-discipline and deep insights to demonstrate your self-sufficiency more effectively. Go for humanitarian and/or reform efforts, and take an unusual view to see the humor in situations that are going in multiple directions simultaneously.
The Eclipse Mercury retrograde at 1 Sag shows that through the RX lens, we can find and demonstrate a sense of humor, or see the irony in things. Since Mercury exactly opposes the Gemini Solar Eclipse point from last May, this could bring reunions with kindred "fighting spirits" promised by that Eclipse. These will help us teach and be taught necessary skills and self-initiative, as well as the ability to see the whole from the parts, while offering powerful feelings of fellowship beyond differences in beliefs and contrasting spheres of understanding.
This Eclipse will definitely shut down elements of our lives related to where we have 20-24 Scorpio, Aquarius, Taurus, and Leo in our charts over the next 3 + years. It will also impact those with sensitive points at 5-9 Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, and Libra.
You will know what is being shut down as various transits through these zones affect your planets along with cutting loose effects from this Eclipse Sun, Moon, and Pluto. As I mentioned more than once in 2011 Eclipse articles, this begins the HUGE shifts throughout 2012, these radical developments continuing into 2013 and beyond, so get ready!!
Besides the major aspects mentioned earlier, other forming aspects include Moon and Sun quadranovile Jupiter, Mercury novile Venus, Venus semisextile Sun, and Mars sextile Neptune (out of sign). These are relatively minor influences.
The major influences are the Lunation semisquare Pluto, Mercury square Neptune, Venus quintile Pluto, Jupiter biseptile Neptune and triseptile Pluto setting the Grand Irrationality into motion for the next 4 weeks and (of course) 3+ years, and the very problematic Saturn quincunx Uranus and productive sextile to Pluto.
Regarding the Grand Irrationality, due to Jupiter activating Neptune and Pluto, the effects are subtle, powerful, and pervasive. If you consider that the Moon makes conjunctions, septiles, biseptiles, or triseptiles to both Neptune and Pluto seven times every month, it becomes evident that we're never really relieved of the pressure, even if it seems to wax and wane with circumstances. This Eclipse sets the trigger for the transits of the next 3+ years to bring this influence forth frequently!
Of course, since Neptune and Pluto are moving forward in the zodiac over the years, the hot zones move forward every year. Right now in late 2012 the 7 "hot zones" of the Grand Irrationality are around 6-10 Capricorn, 28 Aquarius-2 Pisces, 19-23 Aries, 10-14 Gemini, 1-5 Leo, 22-26 Virgo, and 13-17 Scorpio.
If you have planets in or near any of these zones, you are being directly affected by the general irrationality and the pressure of making major choices that will affect your future. This happens both in the life areas of the houses in which these points fall, as well as the life areas ruled by any planets you may have in these zones.
Also, if you have planets before these zones, you were most influenced by the Grand Irrationality in recent years, and if you have planets later than these zones, you will be going through your “forks in the road of destiny” in the future. For now, if you have a planet or sensitive point in any of the 7 hot zones, you can expect that your life will confront one or more turning points over the next few weeks through the Moon, Venus and Mars triggering the configuration, especially in late November and early December.
The separating aspects show reality already experienced, or things already set into motion. Aspects of note are the Eclipse decile Mars, Mercury trine Uranus, Venus trine Jupiter, Mars septile Saturn, Jupiter quintile Uranus, Saturn trine Neptune, and Uranus square Pluto. Taken together it shows that recent clarity and understandings opening opportunities will lead us to special gifts and circumstances that we’ll know deep within are appropriate for us.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate, while as I've told you, the effects of this Eclipse will shows related effect for the next 3+ years. This Solar Eclipse New Moon falls at 22 Scorpio. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The symbol is "Hunters starting out for ducks.” According to Rudhyar this degree is one of "aggressive quest for outer or inner sustenance,” “purposeful satiation of desire,” “tragic incorporation of ideals,” and “exercise.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves "the socially accepted release of an individual’s or a group’s aggressive instincts.” He states this degree is about socializing our “primitive instincts according to a cultural ritual,” where we may need to find a safety valve for releasing compulsions, aggression, or unregenerate energy.
So here we can find socially acceptable means of asserting ourselves, and in that, socialize our instincts. He says it falls in the span of Appreciation, and it's the second degree of the emotional-cultural level of the scene of Faith in the Act of Group Integration. So for this month, as well as the next 3+ years, this Eclipse will teach us how to discover new ways to find socially acceptable means of expressing our assertiveness, or help us eliminate toxic feelings and people in our lives that are needlessly aggressive.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of "simplicity of self-expression and the straightforward honesty of desire” in our lives, and of our need for “elbow room” in our worldly dealings. He states this degree offers freedom of action, and of a determination to have this freedom through any means.
He offers us the keyword of ENTERPRISE. He states that when operating in a positive manners, this degree is "a complete lack of personal frustration and a constant refinement of special and practical skills in the approach to daily problems."
So we enter a time of refining and socializing our instincts, or seeing how another in our life needs to do this. Through Mercury retrograde we’ll get new insights into old truths, philosophical approaches, and wider insights into broader views. We may get insights into previous difficult or hard to understand situations, and perhaps reconnect with someone or review something of the past that shows us the truths we’re willing to fight for.
Just keep clear about phases and stages of how a thing has or could develop, and don’t allow yourselves to be underestimated or taken for granted. Get clear about what role you want to play, and if you’ve strayed from that role recently, just get back on tracks.
Pluto, the Cosmic Purifier, will be in Capricorn for many years. It continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.
In the past months we've solidified new roles, new values, and new resources. We're now living some form of the new archetypal roles we began to live in 2009-2010, and can bring our higher and lower mind together in enjoyable rewarding ways of expressing what is and what could be.
The next 4 weeks continues to be a time to open to new ways of viewing how to claim our divine power and express it creatively and without fear. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011 being activated by Jupiter in the recent past through the Spring of 2013, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear.
Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. Of some importance also is the Gemini Solar Eclipse of 2012, which is opening us to newer, deeper insights even as it shuts down even more of the Gemini areas of our lives. I’ve added links to those articles at the bottom of this one so you can check out how it continues the pattern of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, and adds a new dimension of understanding what’s ending and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Jupiter in Gemini continues to invite us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of seeing what’s fair and what isn’t. We can take the patience we’ve cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus between June 2011 and June 2012 and open to alternative ways of understanding what’s opening for us over the next year. This allows us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."
In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to do, learn, or communicate something that arises through a recognition of some need of the inner Self. Expect some interesting things to assert themselves!
In this Lunation Jupiter is teaching us through reviewing recent truths and visions to see new ways of communicating with others, as well as how to recognize “distant messages” from our higher Consciousness. It definitely puts our interactions and interpretations at a new “turning point,” and many will cultivate telepathy under this influence.
The guiding force in that Eclipse indicates that we are now accepting a balanced deeper wisdom so we can stabilize in the midst of letting go. We are getting a new understanding of old discoveries, and finding new ways of communicating those understandings.
This Eclipse will shut down desires, attachments, toxic feelings, and open us to a new way of attracting what we want and need through personality adaptation for the next 3 + years. Given the power of Mercury and Jupiter in this chart, keep growing into a larger view, a greater Truth, and a wider future while cultivating a sense of humor at divergences in opinion and perception.
This Lunation is the second New Moon with Saturn in Scorpio. We have now cultivated a new strength over the past few months, come to a philosophical completion, and finished repairing or reconstructing something so that some final dues are now paid and old karmas left behind. We are growing into a new intensity, focus, emotional depth, and greater maturity relative to shared values, shared resources, deeper ability to commune with others as well as Nature and Spirit, and getting a more structured connection and a more powerful Spiritual linkage with others and ourselves.
As with the past 9 weeks, over the next 4 weeks we’ll still be leading with our feelings, then making decisions on the basis of those feeling experiences, followed by new information, new ideas, new interpretations, and new views. We’ll be “feeling our way” into new experiences, then deciding and acting on the basis of those feelings. After a decision or action, then we’ll have to find newer, more up to date information, facts, and understanding so we can get a new vision.
So feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced (even if it seems that the past is still more powerful than we’d like!) and then get clear about what must be done and how. Then get more information, communicate what must be communicated until you get a clear vision, and then move with your feelings into new decisions and actions which in turn lead to new ideas and understanding.
So it’s safe to say this Eclipse will set destiny into motion wherever we have Gemini, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Pisces in our charts. Don’t long for what’s been left behind, since there are deeper, more authentic and powerful roles to play once you get clear. Learn what responsibilities are appropriate to your life, ease into a new stability without discontent or over-assertiveness, and remember that what understanding you have rests on a wisdom tradition that can help you to a balanced view of things.
With so much strong Sagittarius energy, be a good sport, and find new views that open your sense of humor, or at least a sense of the absurdity of some things! We’re all still being educated in flexibility while bringing our cultural excellence to the surface of our personalities. This is the time to see the light and life potential grounded in the platform we launched from this past Summer.
Even though the new day that dawned in our lives may not yet be as clear or comfortable as we’d like, it’s already here, and now we just have to eliminate the outmoded or toxic feelings and responses that are spoiling our experience. Here we tune in, find a new view, see a new identity we can express on our own terms in the future, and get a dress rehearsal for some things that are already on the way.
Those who have ears and listen will hear the call of what is coming, and/or find they are tuning in to others at a distance with whom they’re communicating using subtle means. Revise your thinking, and you’ll know both what that is, as well as how to dance between what was, what is, and what will be, experiencing a fluid continuity in your life growth.

Funny, I just heard about a show on A&E called 'Duck Dynasty' sounds like it is spot on with the sabian symbol and interpretation. Peace.

Thank you as always Robert for your inspiration. It has literally been a helluva week, my health was threatening to fail and my bp skyrocketed the day b4 the eclipse, I had the sudden passing of one of my closest friends one of the most beautiful peope i have ever known. I literally reached a point of surrender a couple of hours before eclipse and went to sleep (in perth so night time) feeling a deep sense of no matter whether I wake up in earthly existence or other side of the veil, I am at peace and feel good in my heart that I have done the work I was given to do. I am obviously still here at this point and it may sound like I am being a drama queen, but i genuinely felt I had been fighting for my life. The eclipse squared my natal uranus from the last degree of my 1st house, I currently have uranus trining my MC and qunicunx pluto from the last degree of my 5th house, Pluto is opposing my merc from my 3rd house, chiron is conj chiron at penultimate degree of my 4th house. I have focussed on the positive potential, as it became obviouse that my old life is totally dead, it just depended on whether i had done enough healing to be able to begin a new life here,
So thank you, you definately aided my being able to hold my faith and a little hope to boost it, I am eternally grateful for having been guided to your site a couple of years ago. Namaste

Virgo here, unable to process this information. Does this shut down wherever a specified sign roams in my chart during the next 3 years? Or does it shut down the focus of the house in which that sign appears in my natal chart. I am completely freaking out at all this loss. As far as I can tell from reading this again for the severalth time, this eclipse shuts down houses 5, 8, 11, and 2? And sets in motion something for my 12th, 6th, 7th, and 9th houses, which are ruled by Gem, Sag, Cap, and Pisces, respectively. But those houses are empty in my natal chart. I can tell this ultimately appears to be a positive direction but I am in total anguish about what has been lost, and I feel scared to death at such emptiness. This feels like sea change; I feel like I'm dying.

Hi all - Thanks for checking in. Glad the info is useful!
Hi Debbie - My sincere condolences on the death of your friend. It's true that death is not the enemy, and it's the place we all come from and go to. So I suppose from one point of view it's home. But there's no need to hurry anything, since our job while we're here is to become the best human we can and work through negative karmas, replacing them with response patterns more in line with our Highest Self.
Very good to be able to see when it's time to eliminate old patterns and embrace the unknown potential, whatever that might mean. And I've found that when the door to a new life opens, it means we've "done enough healing to begin a new life here." Of course, you're most welcome for whatever insights I can offer. Glad they help.
Hi ka - Sorry you're having a hard time processing. Go back and re-read it as often as you need to in order to get the gist of what's happening. Plus remember that Eclipses work out over long wave cycles, so don't sweat it if it doesn't get as clear as you'd like as quickly as you'd like.
Yes, every Eclipse shuts down something of the life affairs of the house in which it falls, working out through the sign energies. And please stop freaking out about potential loss, since nothing can be taken away that is still true, good, or beautiful in our lives and still has potential. Don't know why you'd think it's shutting down affairs in 4 houses simultaneously. It may affect more than one house, but it only occurs in one house. Setting whatever into motion is not necessarily connected to the loss, or it could mean that something is set into motion that once the letting go is accomplished, then things will develop naturally in other houses.
From one point of view, only the form of things die. And of course, ego attachments since they are impermanent to begin with. While saying goodbye is difficult, where there is love there is grief, since ultimately one must be the first to go, and the other is left to honor the love that's beyond gain and loss. The void shows you the way to unconditional love, both toward yourself, your experience, your love, and any other thing on which you lavished that love, or shared that love.
The Phoenix Firebird flies and dies, and is reborn from its own ashes. And the beat goes on and on and on.....
