This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's Sagittarius Lunation chart which will throw us into new forms of humor, vision, and truth. We’ll continue to structure new magnetism, new long term patterns of growth through losses and self-transcendence, and our ability to shed old “skins of personality” to come out transformed, combining beauty and functionality. So smile!
This Lunation, along with the inner planets, stretches out the usual "anchoring" occupied span running between Pluto in Capricorn through Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Aries to Jupiter in Gemini. In this New Moon, the inner planets plus Saturn occupy Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn. This indicates we are experiencing a lot of these energies leading into those other, “outer” transpersonal collective tendencies we all live within. We now are experiencing half of the signs occupied with an empty half between early Gemini and early Scorpio.
This spread creates a “Bucket” Jones Pattern, with the occupied half on the one hand focused through the “handle,” or “nozzle” of Jupiter. Jupiter is the “focal determinator,” and represents the way to greater effectiveness, the cause to be embraced, the lack to be filled, or the way to use the total energies of this time in a focused manner. Where Jupiter is relative to the other planets shows the pattern to be more impulsive, and “inclined to respond to an immediate rather than future promise.”
Dr. Jones states “the bucket type indicates a particular and rather uncompromising direction in the life effort.” This pattern gives “interest in a cause,” with executive tendencies that will adapt allegiances to maximize results of the effort. He says “the bucket type at its best reveals the real instructor and inspirer of others, and at its worst the agitator and malcontent.”
There are 4 planets in Fire, 3 in Water, 1 in Air, and 2 in Earth. That shows a heavy emphasis on feelings and experiences, inspiration and activity, with some practicality and not much in the way of relationship and communications. The lack is magnified through Jupiter in Gemini being the handle of the Bucket. As Mercury leads this Lunation, it makes the area in our charts where we have early Sagittarius of extra importance, and indicates a time to be open-minded in how we coordinate affairs so we can be “led to our Soul.”
Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot, so with more planets in Water and Fire, it will be a fairly emotionally charged time, with a lot of feelings and spiritual focus but very little cool-headed practicality. As with last month, it will be a time of reviewing ideas and old truths and understandings to regenerate something that once inspired us. We can productively build, but it’s for the future. Think of this time as building emotional and spiritual capital.
So wherever we have Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, and Gemini in our charts is active, with the first three signs crowded sectors due to the presence of 7 planets there. The general theme is that through our openness to a higher inspiration, our ability to adapt with speed and efficiency, and our ability to have a sense of humor about what’s going on over the next 4 weeks we can see our special qualities and ways to exercise them in the world.
Here we get echoes of the recent Mercury retrograde and can get a sense of how we’ve moved forward in our view these past 6 weeks. Remember and review inspiring truths and views in order to eliminate and regenerate patterns of future growth.
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes only two major forming aspects, while the other planets make several important and specializing forming aspects.
The only forming aspects the Lunation makes are the close semisquare to Saturn and the exact biseptile to Uranus. The semisquare shows a crisis of emergent responsibilities, and the need to go deep into experiences to see the bigger picture. Many will realize some internal crisis around what is lost and what needs attracting. This aspect will lead many to confront internal toxic feelings and attitudes, and with the NN in Scorpio, this promises “gain through loss.”
Find a core reference when you’re confronting new duties and responsibilities, and don’t worry about the limitations you have to leave behind. Make some basic personal decisions that help you integrate your feelings with your sense of responsibility, and let go of needless heaviness. Again, take an unusual view of what’s being learned or taught to see the humor in situations that are going in multiple directions simultaneously.
The powerful biseptile indicates some non-rational experiences are on the way, along with dramatic forks in the road of destiny for all who have planets or points affected by the biseptile. It’s certainly an important time for expressing our self-transcending individuality through the ongoing revolution we’ve all been experiencing the past several months.
Degree spans most impacted involve 21-23 Sagittarius, 13-15 Aquarius, 4-6 Aries, 25-27 Taurus, 17-19 Cancer, 8-10 Virgo, and 29 Libra-1 Scorpio. If you have a planet or sensitive point in any of these spans, your life will take more than one dramatic turn over the next 4 weeks!
Besides the major aspects mentioned earlier, other forming aspects include Mercury semisquare Mars, opposition Jupiter and trine Uranus, Venus septile Mars, and trine Uranus and square Neptune, the latter two out of sign. Mars is quintile Uranus and novile Neptune, Jupiter is sextile Uranus, and Saturn is biquintile Uranus.
The major influence in this Lunation is the extremely powerful Yod, or “Finger of God,” created by Saturn sextile Pluto with both quincunx Jupiter. This shows major “expansion through sacrifice” energies, squeezing us all wherever this configuration falls in our charts. Expect some fairly dramatic adjustments that will help you master certain life trajectories. We can redirect momentum in multiple life areas, and can “pull out of nosedives” and “right ourselves gracefully.”
The separating aspects show reality already experienced, or things already set into motion. Aspects of note are the Lunation opposition Jupiter and quintile Neptune, Mercury square Neptune, Venus semisquare Pluto, Mars quintile Saturn and conjunct Pluto, Saturn trine Neptune, and Uranus square Pluto. Taken together is shows we’ve come out of recent confusion, gotten rid of relationships and things that just got us lost in loose ends and prevented us from getting the results we wanted, and gotten clear about where our loyalties are.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 22 Sagittarius. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The symbol is "A Chinese laundry.” According to Rudhyar this degree is one of "Retreat to the inner world of self after outer achievement,” “safe return to ancestral patterns of behavior,” and “easy poise.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves "making use of one’s special racial-cultural background in order to survive and prosper in an alien environment.” He states this degree is about us feeling separated from others in our environment, and our ability to use the special qualities of our background as a foundation for being accepted without losing our integrity.
So here we can find ways to maintain our integrity in situations which may not favor who or what we are. He states “what is asked here is self-containment . . . and good humor.” He says it falls in the span of Detachment, and it's the second degree of the emotional-cultural level of the scene of Transference in the Act of Group Integration. So for this month we’re being taught how to have good humor in situations where we may feel somewhat alien.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “complete self-refinement” through community activities, and a consummation of self through “specialized interests” that prevent superficial interactions. He states this degree promises “a richness of living comes from a concentration on goals with remote reward, and from an association in spirit with souls of very high achievement.”
He goes on to say “here is imaginative self-sustainment through unremitting hard labor.” He offers us the keyword of SECLUSION, and states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "an unusual gift for maintaining poise and self-perspective in every unfamiliar or alien situation.”
So we enter a time of refining ourselves and our way of relating to others, or seeing how another in our life needs to do this. Because it’s in Sagittarius, we’ll get focused (hopefully with humor and openness) to new truths, futures, potentials in action, thought, and feelings, and wider insights into broader views.
Just keep clear about what you need to leave behind and what you need to accept. Calm the mind to open to a higher light and a deeper understanding of what’s appropriate to you, and be efficient in adapting to circumstances. Be realistic about how to do what to do, and do it with humor!
Pluto, the Cosmic Purifier, will be in Capricorn for many years. It continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.
In the past months we've solidified new roles, new values, and new resources. We're now living some form of the new archetypal roles we began to open to in 2009-2010, and can bring our higher and lower mind together in enjoyable rewarding ways of expressing what is and what could be.
The next 4 weeks continues to be a time to open to new ways of viewing how to claim our divine power and express it creatively and without fear. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011 being activated by Jupiter in the recent past through the Spring of 2013, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear.
Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. Of some importance also is the Gemini Solar Eclipse of 2012, which is opening us to newer, deeper insights even as it shuts down even more of the Gemini areas of our lives. I’ve added links to those articles at the bottom of this one so you can check out how it continues the pattern of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, and adds a new dimension of understanding what’s ending and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Jupiter in Gemini continues to invite us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of seeing what’s fair and what isn’t. We can take the patience we’ve cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus between June 2011 and June 2012 and open to alternative ways of understanding what’s opening for us over the next year. This allows us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."
In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to do, learn, or communicate something that arises through a recognition of some need of the inner Self. Expect some interesting things to assert themselves!
In this Lunation Jupiter is teaching us through reviewing recent truths and visions to see new ways of communicating with others, as well as how to redirect energies and momentum using “mind over matter.” It definitely puts our interactions and interpretations at a new “turning point,” and as previously noted, many will pull out of symbolic nose dives and “right themselves gracefully.”
When in doubt, plunge into experience fully independent of prior limitations. Control your “flight trajectory,” and release whatever you need to since you can always re-grasp it in another context. If you find yourself in some sort of crisis, reorient to your advantage!
As noted yesterday, this Lunation is the third New Moon with Saturn in Scorpio. We have now cultivated a new strength over the past few months, come to a philosophical completion, and finished repairing or reconstructing something so that some final dues are now paid and old karmas left behind. We are growing into a new intensity, focus, emotional depth, and greater maturity relative to shared values, shared resources, deeper ability to commune with others as well as Nature and Spirit, and getting a more structured connection and a more powerful Spiritual linkage with others and ourselves.
Over the next 4 weeks we’ll lead with our feelings, then find ideas and information and new visions that can help us make decisions on the basis of those new ideas and understanding. We’ll be “feeling our way” into new experiences, then getting information and understanding before deciding and acting on the basis of those feelings and ideas. After a decision or action, then move into feeling the new experience, and get the vision you need to move everything forward one more step.
So feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced (even if it seems that the past is still more powerful than we’d like!) and then get the information you need to get clear about what must be done and how. Then go back to your feelings, and let them move you into more information, communicate what must be communicated until you get a clear vision, and then into new decisions and actions which in turn lead to new feelings and experiences.
So it’s safe to say this Lunation will set destiny into motion wherever we have Aries, Gemini, Cancer, and Leo in our charts. Don’t long for what’s been left behind, since there are deeper, more authentic and powerful roles to play once you get clear. Learn what responsibilities are appropriate to your life, ease into a new stability without discontent or over-assertiveness, and remember that what understanding you have rests on a wisdom tradition that can help you to a greater sense of humor about things.
With so much strong Sagittarius energy, be a good sport, and find new views that open your sense of humor, or at least a sense of the absurdity of some things! We’re all still being educated in flexibility while bringing our cultural excellence to the surface of our personalities. This is the time to see the light and life potential grounded in the platform we launched from this past Summer.
Even though the new day that dawned in our lives may not yet be as clear or comfortable as we’d like, it’s already here, and now we just have to eliminate the outmoded or toxic feelings and responses that are spoiling our experience. Here we tune in, find a new view, see our authenticity we can express on our own terms despite any lack of harmony or acceptance by the outer environment, and can cut loose from the past. The future is NOW!!
Those who have ears and listen will get a great knowledge or ability to teach, and welcoming broader ideas with humor and objectivity will help us redirect momentum to our advantage. Keep adapting, keep striving for efficiency, feel your way to new ideas and visions, and then do what you must to exercise your autonomy in practical organized ways. And remember through it all to maintain your sense of humor!!

Smile! is not going to happen. Can you address wth might be going on with situations such as Portland mall shooting, Cupertino high school bomb threat, and Newton elementary school massacre? All of it too close to home, not much room for sense of humor. Thanks in advance.

Hi ka - Will post something relevant to the pandemic violence we're going through right now. It's the dying gasp of a delusional approach to matter and the desires and illusions concerning what we have created on Earth. And of course, the last time I posted on such a thing I attracted a LOT of criticism from gun enthusiasts....
