As I've told you before, it's always good to remember that no eclipse of itself is "bad," nor do we have anything to fear. There is a lot of superstition about Eclipses, mostly focusing on "dreadful" or difficult elements that often seem to accompany them. However, while all eclipses take something away and/or shut something down, an Eclipse can have beneficial effects if we just know "when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, when to walk away, and when to run."
What’s included in this post will also be relevant in the coming Annular Solar Eclipse at 20 Taurus on May 9-10, as well as the somewhat rare second Lunar Eclipse at 5 Sagittarius on May 24-25, which is also the Christ Fest. Of course I’ll be writing more on both as they draw near.
Eclipses are both dreaded and misunderstood recurring phenomena. Solar Eclipse effects last for several years, while Lunar Eclipse effects last for a few months.
This Partial Lunar Eclipse that is this year’s Wesak Festival happens on April 25, 12:57 pm PDT, 3:57 pm EDT, and 8:57 pm Greenwich (Apr 26 in Pakistan and points east). It will last 4 hours and 8 minutes, showing an influence lasting a little over 4 months. The phase when it’s “Partial” only lasts 27 minutes, showing this won’t be a very intense Eclipse.
Today we'll discuss a lot about eclipses in general and a little about this one. In following articles I'll elaborate on the Astro-physics of the phenomenon, who is most affected by this Eclipse, symbols, aspects, patterns, and what we can expect from this Wesak Festival Lunar Eclipse at 6 Taurus-Scorpio.
I've composed quite a few articles on past eclipses in the archives that bear re-visiting, since the Solar Eclipses of 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 are still manifesting results, if traditional Eclipse lore is to be believed. (The July 2009 Eclipse effects just ended in December).
Core material about the timeline of Eclipse effects can be found in the article, The Solar Eclipse - What It Means and Its Effect On Our Life, as well as many other elements of what we can expect from these recurring celestial events. Links to recent eclipses are at the bottom of this article.
Also, here's another important article explaining even more about what effects we can expect to result from Lunar and Solar Eclipses. For your reconsideration, The Solar and Lunar Eclipse - Is Any Eclipse Destined to Have Bad Effects?
To whet your appetites, here is a bit from the article:
There is a lot of fear and trepidation connected to Eclipses, an unfortunate leftover from previous centuries when Eclipses were believed to augur the fall of empires, dynasties, and powerful people anywhere the Eclipse shadow fell. While Eclipses do tend to shut down some elements in the area of life (house) in which they fall, this is not necessarily a bad thing, since we must bring some things to an end if we are to embrace newer, better ways of doing our Being. While the future effects of an Eclipse may be powerful, in that they last over a long period, they are not necessarily bad.No Astrological event need be "bad," or have "evil" effects, regardless of whether we're using Vedic, Chinese, Western, or any other approach to defining "All-That-Is" within a precise system of space-time factors. Though a circumstance may seem to have "bad" omens for the future, we can always transcend any negativity and turn the future to beneficent possibilities. No matter where an Eclipse falls, we can turn it to good.
Here it is important to remember Astrology is NOT a "predictive" art, in the usual way this is understood. The craft is less deterministic than most believe, including we professional Astrologers who seem to be able to "hit the mark" regarding future manifestations.
Pattern is everything, and time is a continuity. By knowing the past and present, we can often extrapolate the future. But we can never know how a being will respond to any given life challenge, whether pleasant or painful. Each has their ability to respond as they choose in the moment.
This directly related to the concept that each planet has a duality of function. It is up to us to determine whether the Moon, Sun, Mercury or any other planet involved in eclipses, "bad" aspects, configurations and other phenomena manifests productively or non-productively.
To remind you, a square can be more productive than a trine, and an opposition can produce awareness. Polarization is only a problem on the ego level. Seen from a higher angle, oppositions are necessary for us to acquire objectivity and the ability to encompass duality within a higher view.
By all means, check out the entire article, since I explained how past eclipses affected my chart, and gave examples of the good that can come after an eclipse removes old patterns. This Partial Lunar Eclipse Wesak Festival in Taurus-Scorpio over time will show us how to deal with opening to new activities taking us away from the known and familiar in social-emotional levels of life, and will definitely be directly related to opportunities and potential futures and higher Truths opened between July 2011 and February 2012.
This one will get us crystal clear about what needs to be done and how it needs to be done. For many, a leaving behind of the “known and familiar” and moving into a greater, more intense social experience. This one will help us see a greater maturity, or old responsibilities eliminated and new ones accepted. Whatever is stripped away will leave a void to be filled with deeper relationships and life experiences over time, so learn to hold the empty space with patience and a sense of attracting what you need “to perfect the great work” between late June and mid-November 2013.
It will bring a greater awareness around recent and current losses, and show us the power of holding the void. Whatever is shut down by this Wesak Lunar Eclipse creates a space for a new power, a new magnetism, a new sense of purpose, a new way of substantiating and confirming a greater duty or set of responsibilities that will be clearly recognizable this Summer and Autumn. So whatever Lunar/Saturn functions are shut down will bring a newer, steady, long range pulse of Saturn activity when it occupies this degree just before it goes stationary direct in early July, and continues to sit next to or on this Eclipse degree through mid-August.
This Eclipse is stabilizing and purifying and will open us to a deeper experience in some social or emotional area of our lives. This will help us figure out what we can hold on to and why, as well as what we cannot hold on to, and we’ll be confronted with “cutting to the chase” regarding how we feel about something personal. It will be an extraordinarily productive Eclipse where old lines of feeling and relating are shut down so that more appropriate ones can open up.
All Eclipses radically transform areas affected by the planetary positions, so look to where you have 6 Taurus and 6 Scorpio to see what will be shut down. Those life areas will yield a new way of looking at gain and loss, fullness and emptiness, and help us all to eliminate what we need to while holding on to things that stabilize us. Given the nodes, we “gain through loss,” and merely need to follow through on our line of least resistance.
If we “cheerfully mobilize” and juggle what we need to while maintaining calm and a pleasant attitude, we can move through the oppositional energies while learning a “productive flow.” The opposition between Taurus and Scorpio is resolved through Pluto in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces, helping us all to find “containers” from which we can move safely into new areas of concern.
In this Partial Lunar Eclipse at 6 Scorpio, we see the most important factors are Moon conjunct Saturn opposed Sun conjunct Mars in Taurus making sextiles and trines to Pluto retrograde on its stationary degree. Add the Venus quintile and Mars sextile Neptune, and it adds up to a time when we can “master discouragement” and find our way to part of the Great Mystery of our existence.
As also noted recently, due to Jupiter now biseptile Neptune and triseptile Pluto, the Grand Irrationality is still in full swing for the months this Eclipse is active, as well as part of the “Buddha Nature Wisdom” that pours out of the Wesak Full Moon each year. So expect the next few months to shut down a lot that moves us in new directions of destiny, as well as new wisdom forms that will arise in the Summer and Autumn of 2013.
This time when the Grand Irrationality is active will throw us all into more critical decisions in house areas involving Gemini, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Pisces. Expect important decisions and changes in life areas where you have these signs on the cusp or planets in these signs.
More on the Solar Eclipses of 2011 and 2012
Though 2012 was no slouch in terms of Eclipse effects, 2011 was a rare year that offered us 6 Eclipses in one year, 4 Solar and 2 Lunar. We had the first Partial Solar Eclipse in January, we had the second one June 1-2, the third one on July 1, and a final one November 24-25! The 2 Lunar Eclipses were also Total Eclipses, following what we saw in December 2010.
While the Lunar Eclipses are no longer in force, the 4 Solar Eclipses of 2011 will affect us for a long time to come, so take a look at the numerous January, June, July, and November 2011 Eclipse articles in the archives. While you’re at it, you may also want to review the articles on the 2012 Solar Eclipses, since they’re also still in major play at the present time and into the future. Some links are at the bottom of this page.
The Solar Eclipses of January and June 2011 brought blessings upon us since they happened. We've simply been challenged to let go of old life patterns that no longer serve the emergent Archetypes we've been living the past two years. Due to such things as the Grand Irrationality and the various Cardinal T-squares and Crosses set up by Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn, we're all going through major changes that will affect our lives for many years. It may have been a wild ride, but power and new potentials have resulted from our choices.
Since the past is prologue to the future, those who prepared, learned, and allowed themselves to be moved into new ways of relating to others in 2011 have found in 2012 an activation of a concrete higher power or value they can trust. Those who have not shown kindness and understanding at critical junctures in the past three years have reaped consequences. Our ability to become an elegant and balanced Spiritual Warrior has been put to the test in diverse ways, and 2011 made clear the consequences for seeking what we have sought.
In 2012 we had two Solar Eclipses. The first one in May was Annular, whereas the one on November 13-14 was a Total Solar Eclipse at 22 Scorpio. We also had two Lunar Eclipses. The one on June 4 was a Partial Lunar Eclipse at 15 Sagittarius/Gemini, and marked the "Christ Fest," the third of the 3 "High Moons" of Spring. The Lunar Eclipse on November 28 was a Penumbral Eclipse that fell at 7 Gemini/Sagittarius. That Eclipse showed effects through mid-March 2013. Please check the archives to find out more if you’re so inclined.
Though there are always endings associated with any Eclipse, these open the space we need to align with Spirit in natural and productive ways. Take a new look to see what really matters and what you do and do not want to bring with you into the new world you're already living.
We've all blasted off into new realms in the past couple of years, and now are moving into a time of stabilizing our long term plans. This Eclipse continues to help us get clear about what we no longer need or want, and we can now let go of many things that have pushed and pulled us in the past. It’s time to “let go, let G_d!”

The recent yods didnt affect me though they should have (grand irrationality). But as always, you lay out the land we are trekking and we must "roll with it baby!!!" (Winwood)
I always like your popular music entries. Makes me think what it once was like - the world and the views at those moments.

Hi Jason - Perhaps you were squeezed in ways that were natural for you. Sometimes sacrifice is the most natural thing to do. Glad you dig the music. It's the soundtrack of our lives. I never take that for granted for even a moment. The 20th century made music for all time, and yes, sometimes we are reminded of a world long ago, where we could walk the beaches and contemplate the waves....

The lunar eclipse on the 25th is exactly conjunct my natal Uranus (6th house). I have been dealing with a mysterious health issue for a year and I'm hoping the eclipse will reveal what it is exactly and resolve it once and for all!
The Solar Eclipse May 9th is opposing my natal moon and the Lunar Eclipse in Sag is squaring my natal Venus exactly and opposing my ascendant (2 degree orb). With all this action hitting my chart, I'm a little nervous. I know eclipses don't necessarily mean something bad will happen, it just seems like a little too much activity at one time. Hoping the Universe will be kind...

Great article. Thank you. One small correction:
"In 2012 we had two Solar Eclipses. The first one in May was Partial…."
This was a potent annular eclipse at 0° Gemini.

Hi Laura - Nothing can be taken away that should remain. If an Eclipse brings endings, those things already ran their race, with voids needed so other things can come.
Hi Joseph - Thanks for the catch. Already corrected.

Ur Highness, without considering full chart, if I use my Aries rising for this eclipse...it lands in my 7th house...would that mean partnership closes down?
Posted by: chickie | April 23, 2013 at 11:24 AM
Natal North Node at 5 degrees Scorp in 9th conjunct Natal Uranus at 3, squaring Natal Saturn in Leo 7th, waiting to see and feel how this manifest:)
Thank You!

Hi Chickie - Well, could be remagnetizing partnership stuff for the long haul, given Saturn is dancing in your 7th. Could also bring a "fusion" with rulers of 4th and 10th in 7th sextile Pluto up top. Favorable Cancer for everyone with this one. Search for the mystery. Everything clustered in 1st/2nd should be good for you. And with Uranus camped out on your Asc, the beat goes on and on and on and on....
Hi Richelle - You may want to use the site google box to find the article on the Nodes in the archives. This Eclipse will put the spotlight on long term growth, leaving behind old Uranus stuff so that new Uranus energy can manifest in your life. Squares put the breaks on things, or show that a corner is turned. The Eclipse will block and/or release Saturn energies into Aquarius. Take a large view, see things from an integrated angle, and remember YOU, Aquarius in the first energy, are the solution to any conflict.

The last new moon was conjunct my natal Venus and Mars (10th) and opposite Pluto (4th) and trine Neptune (6th). The last full moon was conjunct my natal Moon (4th) and sextile Jupiter (2nd). This Scorpio eclipse (5th) will be "conversating" with my natal Moon at 5 degrees Libra and will be loosely opposing my Chiron at 9 degrees Taurus (11th). The upcoming solar eclipse will be conjunct my natal Sun which is at 18 Taurus (11th) opposing Uranus (5th) and inconjunct Pluto and Neptune. It bears mentioning that February's Virgo full moon was exactly conjunct natal Saturn (3rd) and May's Sag lunar eclipse will also be "conversating" with my natal moon...
It has felt like someone's got their foot on my lower back just pushing me on and on despite how badly I want to stop and look around out of anxiety and fear. I got a new job after the new moon in my 10th. But I have to say it's been pretty tough emotionally. Not that I'm an emotional wreck, but it's almost like the strength of my feelings (and how I gut-instinct relate to them) has been spotlighted. In terms of relationships, I was casually dating someone who simply stopped talking to me which totally spotlighted fears surrounding rejection, etc. Yet, I have a strange feeling that person was there to serve that purpose and once done, the universe released them from me.
I'd have to say it almost feels like someone/something stormed into a previously shuttered room, tore down the shutters/blinds/etc and all this light came flooding in and I don't know what to do with it but just squint and stare.
I'm gonna have to read up on these old eclipse articles to get a better understanding of what may be transpiring for me this year! Thanks for all this useful info, Robert!
