It seems Fukushima is still leaking radioactive water, and that they’re having problems “with controlling ground water and maintaining the massive cooling system built to keep the reactors stable.” Oh joy.
From the NBC news story, Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant leaking contaminated water, we read that that at least 120 tons of radioactive water “may have leaked” that contaminated the ground around the reactor, but the company really doesn’t know how long the tank had been leaking.
From the story:
The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi plant has faced a range of problems with controlling ground water and maintaining the massive cooling system built to keep the reactors stable. The power company said on Friday said it lost the ability to cool radioactive fuel rods in one of the plant's reactors for about three hours. It was the second failure of the system to circulate seawater to cool spent fuel rods at the plant in the past three weeks.
We are told “Work to decommission the plant is projected to take decades to complete” which of course means we can expect more nuclear leaks for many, many years. As noted in the first comment to this story, “And this is EXACTLY why, despite narrow minded thinkers, we will always have a problem with nuclear plants. Only a short sighted ignoramus could ever believe that nukes are good for anything but death on a scale of thousands of years.”
I’ve also heard through other sources that the ground itself under the reactors has become unstable. Solar and wind, and fusion technology, are the only way to go. When will we ever learn?

Yes, I totally agree!!!! I am really unimpressed with the Japanese Government!!!

Its a perfect symbol of man's arrogance and the fog of total belief in science and engineering as truth. How we, as a species, culture, or a nation that can barely remember how bad the last guys were 4 years ago at the next election are yet, somehow, qualified to be stewards for tens of thousands of years of perhaps the most toxic substances we have managed to create, perpetrate onto this planet in only a few short hundred years, and believe me, we have a few dozen other competitors already in our hall of shame and many more being researched in the name of truth and knowledge. Rationality means first ratio, a balance we seek and are yet to achieve. We are yet to learn anything close to the real truth of how much radiation has poisoned the seas. Life imitating art, Godzilla is the perfect symbol of this, sadly, for the Japanese, who have already suffered the wrath of man's destructive nuclear ignorance.

Dear Robert, I so agree with you that renewable energy holds much promise, but the technology for solar and wind is not where it needs to be....The work of Dr. Magda Havas highlights the issues of dirty electricity, ground current, infrasound, Rf radiation, Wind Turbine Syndrome, etc that are unfolding under the guise of integrating renewables into the grid. To make matters worse, the RF limits in the US are illegal in most other nations.
Sustainability is being used to build the next wave of windfall profits in the commodities market, and consumers have been misled far and wide. Compact Fluorescent Bulbs are a prime example, a dangerous wrong technology. Consciousness, and restoring our literacy with nature, are the only true solutions..

Hi Patricia - Nothing is as it "should" be at the present time. But we must further alternative renewable clean energy resources. So the fact that the present tech is obsolete and destructive is no surprise. We are an Age in Transition. Things will get messy as we shift from the age of industrialization without conscience into sustainable goods and services. If the US doesn't take the initiative, then we'll continue to have our clocks cleaned by Germany and other nations. And keep polluting.....
The fact that the banksters try to make money off of commodities is nothing new. Yes the lightbulbs were a shortsighted mandate. But the fact that there are bad technologies out there and some will always try to profit is just business as usual. We MUST go solar, wind, waves, and geothermal to the utmost degree we can. When new technologies develop, the cost of power will go down, furthering even better technology.
As for EMF problems, that didn't develop due to wind turbines. That's part of the larger problem of how much vibrational pollution we've allowed in the name of having power. That technology must go, and be replaced with something more sustainable and in harmony with the One Life we all are Together.
