The Summer Solstice occurs June 20, 10:04 pm PDT, June 21 1:04 am EDT, 6:04 am Greenwich. It's the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, said to be the time at which "free will" acts more powerfully than any other time. It is a point of decision, and kicks off Summer, the season of work, play, productivity, and lots of sunshine for those of us up north. If you're "down under," remember to have a little compassion for us up here when December 21, the Winter Solstice, rolls around and we're freezing while you're enjoying the beach! What follows explores elements we all can expect to experience over the next 3 months, regardless of where we live.
Today is the end of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the end of Autumn in the Southern. This is an excellent time for looking at what began in the past 90 days, whether new growth or signs of what is ending. This is a point of radical reorientation, whether toward emotional self interest in the Northern Hemisphere or personal power in the Southern.
The next 90 days are in any case a time to decide, consolidate, stabilize, and work toward what will shift at the Autumnal Equinox. We began numerous cycles of new activities during the 2011 Aries conjunctions involving Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars with Uranus and Jupiter. These were solidified and stabilized at the planetary conjunctions with Jupiter in Taurus March through May 2012, and renewed and expanded between April and June 2013.
Now that Jupiter just entered Cancer for this Solstice chart, we shall see new allegiances, new life experiences, new needs, and a reorientation toward a new stability or way of living. This will help us take collective material and weave it into a new “song of life” even as we search for new revelations and go deeper into our connection with “the ONE.”
The charts for the Summer and Winter Solstices provide guideposts for the symbolic and actual weather that will follow in the 90 days after those points in time, just as charts for the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox each show what will follow in the period after those points in time.
After many years of being an important factor in the Solstice and Equinox charts, Pluto will again prove important in the coming season, as it does in the charts at every change of season during this time in history. Due to Pluto transiting early Capricorn, it was squared by the Sun at the Spring and Autumn Equinoctal points, and opposed the Sun at the Summer Solstice point for a number of years. These are very dynamic aspects that release a lot of energy, and either block or propel events.
Although the Sun is no longer in very close conjunction, square, or opposition to Pluto during these changes of season, since Uranus actually IS in close square to Pluto, there will increasingly be greater Plutonic energies cut loose for years to come! In recent years, we only experienced Uranus square Pluto energy at the 2010 Summer Solstice and to a lesser degree, the 2011 Spring Equinox (since Uranus was almost too wide to be in square).
However, beginning with the 2011 Summer Solstice chart, we’ve confronted an ever-closer square between these two heavyweights impacting every season since then except for the 2011 Winter Solstice. So January through March 2012 was the last season when this square wasn’t a major player, but no more! For several years, this square will be a major influence in all seasonal charts to come!
Squares tend to put the brakes on some things, while indicating a "turning of a corner" in other things. Squares to Pluto often show things going out of control or something extreme happening that results in either a favorable purification or a grinding toxicity. Given that Pluto is one of the anchors of The Grand Irrationality, when squared it releases a lot of energy precipitating situations that move people to make choices that propel them into their destiny.
Pluto is the ultimate transformer. It has figured prominently in both Equinox and Solstice charts of the past few years, and will for a few more years. It has particularly affected charts in 2007, 2008, and 2009 due to it going back and forth over 29-30 Sag and 1-3 Capricorn when it was conjunct the Galactic Center. There are many articles in the archives discussing the Solstice and Equinox charts for those years, so if you're interested please take a look.
This is the fifth Summer Solstice with Pluto in Capricorn. The opposition between the Sun at the beginning of Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn, even though it’s wide, continues to challenge us to find confidence in the midst of chaotic conditions, and use self-discipline and deep insights to pioneer in new directions. Given the Solstice and Equinox charts show the weather patterns to come, this chart would seemingly indicate some extremes on the way, and may help explain why there have been so many extremes these past 6 years!
This Summer Solstice chart shows 3 planets in the first decan of their signs, 3 planets in the second decan of their signs, and 4 planets in the third decan of their signs. This indicates a three month period of activity involving the material, actional, and social-emotional areas of life, with a slight emphasis on the mental and spiritual areas of life.
The planets fall in a Splay Jones pattern. This indicates a widely distributed planetary spread that shows a diverse but separated set of interests, with an emphasis on individuality putting itself into different situations that may not harmonize easily. So learn to triangulate when caught between conflicting energies that only come together because you are moving through those experiences.
On this Solstice, we see 6 planets in Water, 2 in Air, 1 in Earth, and 1 in Fire. That makes this a season where feelings will run VERY high, and we’ll all need to connect and share information with others while generating practical inspiration the best we’re able within a friction that seems out of our control.
In this chart, we find only Neptune in its home sign. The “chain of final dispositorship” involves the Moon, Mars, and Mercury, making these three the final dispositors for all the energies of the next 90 days. This makes intense feelings and an “urgency of discovery” front and center for the next 90 days.
With the Moon is at 28 Scorpio, we all will get focused through our faith and our willingness to yield to the inner magnetism that keeps our personality whole within larger wholes of connectedness with others. This season will take us ever-deeper into our faith, our sense of connection within and without, and through adjustments and sacrifices, open us to our potential for clairvoyance and clairaudience, as well as show us what we can and cannot expect, and how to live up to our promises even as we hear the “Music of the Spheres” and glimpse the larger cosmic order we’re a part of.
As noted in the most recent New Moon articles, Neptune is very strong, still in the zone of “the cusp of the Age,” and on a degree of us finding a new dedication in a larger collective realm. Given the very powerful Sun trine Neptune, this is a season when many dreams can come true, though there also may be more than a few peculiar dreams, visions, omens, and a sense of non-focus. Please refer to the many recent articles on Neptune in Pisces to learn more about this long term peculiar dreamworld energy.
The Moon rules Cancer, so it's the ruler of the Sun. In this chart we find a Gibbous Moon in Scorpio, indicating the next 90 days are about a search for a revelation, or a quest for some sort of illumination. We will open to interesting associations between ideas and how they externalize through a process of introspection and emotional growth that shows us how we can make a greater or more needed contribution to our society or social matrix.
In the Solstice chart, there are a host of extremely important aspects showing major shifts and forks in the road of destiny involving Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Pluto. Prominent forming aspects, showing things to come, include Moon quincunx Jupiter, Mercury conjunct Venus with both biseptile Saturn, the Sun in a Grand Water Trine with Saturn and Neptune and wide opposition to Pluto, Mars triseptile Pluto setting the Grand Irrationality into motion, and Jupiter in a grand trine with Saturn and Neptune but out of sign.
Given the biseptiles and triseptile, expect major choices and changes throwing us forward into a greater vision or social effectiveness, as well as deeper connections with others. Some will tear themselves away from “the known and familiar” into new social intensity and interactions, and there will be “fated” meetings, interactions, with fellowships and groups formed and connections deepened.
So we enter a season of radical choices, changes, forks in the road in many areas of our lives, and intensification of everything leading us to a deeper personality integration. In this Solstice chart, Mars is triseptile Pluto, setting the Grand Irrationality into motion in the areas where we have Aries, Gemini, Scorpio, and Capricorn. This sets events into motion that will directly impact the coming Mercury stationary retrograde chart, which shows Mars biseptile to Neptune, boosting the impact of this configuration.
To refresh you, if you have a planet or angle in any of the 7 zones of this configuration, expect some heavy decisions and events forcing you to see some things that will determine your future direction. These zones are approximately 9-13 Capricorn, 1-5 Pisces, 22-26 Aries, 14-18 Gemini, 5-9 Leo, 26-30 Virgo, and 17-21 Scorpio. To learn more about this long wave phenomenon please go to recent articles on the subject. Obviously when the Moon is moving through any of the 7 hot zones it’ll set major things into motion.
The second major irrational configuration in this chart is Mercury and Venus biseptile Saturn, affecting areas of our charts with Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Aquarius. Hot zones when these irrational, obsessive, or edgy energies are set into motion forcing us to make choices that will determine our future destiny in these areas are 25-29 Sagittarius, 17-21 Aquarius, 8-12 Aries, 29 Taurus-3 Gemini, 21-25 Cancer, 12-16 Virgo, and 4-8 Scorpio.
As you can see, coupled with the Grand Irrationality, the only areas not affected over the next 90 days are late Leo, early to mid-Sagittarius, and mid-to-late Pisces. Also note that the second set of degrees is just before the Grand Irrationality spans. So the Mercury/Venus biseptile Saturn will be set off by transits to those zones, followed quickly by the Grand Irrationality making its mark on our lives.
The North Node shows us the line of greatest development is to open to eliminating and regenerating through trusting “the God within,” and getting focused on a deeper and more potent “faith in action.” The South Node indicates these growth patterns will demonstrate as “the seeker turning warrior” and framing things in terms of how the spiritual is all and the form merely the expression of that deeper faith.
Given that Saturn is going stationary direct a couple of weeks from now, this Summer we'll begin to embrace a new life, and understand the power to steer the flow toward new vistas, newer and deeper relationships, new dedications, and new allegiances. We shall all know a new stability or inertia, and much that we’ve been practicing in the way of meeting others at a higher level of social interaction will begin to show results through who we attract to us and who leaves our lives.
Given the lack of oppositions, the coming 90 days probably won’t provide much in the way of awareness, though Moon quincunx Jupiter shows we’ll have to make some adjustments and sacrifices that will help us eliminate all we cannot weave together in our new “song of life.” And of course, though separating, Uranus square Pluto indicates further conflicts and tensions in the larger world environment. This indicates further intensification of the sandstorm of conflicts and unyielding situations by those who are extreme in their views and are not listening to alternative approaches or understanding.
Uranus square Pluto in this chart, while not in aspects with other planets, still indicates that over the next 90 days there will be some extreme and potentially violent events, where there is maximum volatility in the public arena. This is about understanding what is contributing to any disorder, and the antidotes are to return to source and re-identify ourselves with our “triple essence of being” while reaching out to find elementary understanding about some basic truths of life.
In other words, if you’re in a dispute, keep it simple, fair, balanced, and understand that you’re probably dealing with primal feelings and defenses. You can bet there will be some very primitive instinctual behaviors come forth that may be totally out of balance, and we can expect extreme weather, both psychic and actual, from these two aspects.
So the next few weeks will bring us into meetings with people and ideas that will help us move away from the known, into a greater connectedness with others who are facets of our Soul group. And because of the Grand Water Trine, continue to demonstrate deep compassion and/or understanding, allowing ourselves to be attracted to people and situations that show us our Spiritual group work.
Though this time seems perilous thanks to the very intense major squares and T-squares that keep hammering everyone on Earth, showing as widespread discontent, revolution, and social breakdown, we have nothing to fear. Things are changing rapidly, and fear of the unknown has no place since in fact you're being guided to the sanctuary you began to search for around 7-8 years ago.
So look at what is emerging, and make decisions to reorient toward your new life and initiatives. Bounce ideas off of others, go for the integrating principle in all circumstances, let go of obsolete, stagnant, or stuck emotional responses, and keep embracing “the God within” since it is the way to the revelations you seek.
Don’t get distracted by the craziness or irrationality in people and circumstances, and don’t worry if a lot doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t have to. Just learn how to feel your knowing and know your feelings, see the need in situations, go for the new and unrealized, and do personality integration techniques.
This is a time of diversification and flow, concentration and letting go, decision and growth into new directions and ways of self-expression. We’ve now said goodbye to the past over the past two years, and should no longer be bugged by its ghosts and echoes of memories of perceptions of echoes of memories of perceptions of echoes of memories...
Aum, blessings, and Happy Summer Solstice as we stand on the threshold of a new season of life! Let go of fear, let go of memories, let go of narrow views and interpretations, and stay focused on the rising sun that’s on the way.

Brilliant. The Solstice is also the Festival of Fire in many cultures (specially with Celtic infuence). Light and warmth and "fire" are available to us now. Time to move on, enjoy and make the most of it.
Cheers,
Nic
