This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's Gemini New Moon chart which will show us new “seed knowledge” that will help us open to greater distant horizons opening new allegiances in the near future.
This Lunation, along with the inner planets, continues sign concentrations within the usual "anchoring" span occupied by slow moving planets. Due to the shift toward Jupiter and away from Saturn, the occupied span runs from Pluto in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces to Uranus in Aries and completes with Jupiter in Gemini. In this New Moon, the span is extended into the first half of Cancer. As there is a huge cluster of planets in Gemini, it shows that area of our charts will be very intense and active for the next few weeks.
We’ve now returned to having only one nozzle planet for this “Bucket” Jones Pattern. Jupiter in Gemini was the primary nozzle for quite some time, since it’s been outside the occupied span. However, due to the cluster of planets in Gemini and Cancer, Saturn is now the nozzle for the rest of the energies. So in this chart, Saturn is the nozzle for, and focuses the occupied span from Capricorn through Cancer.
So What is a “Bucket Pattern” and how does it work?
This type of spread, with all the planets in about half the signs with one outside that span wide enough to be a handle, creates a “Bucket” Jones Pattern. The energies of the occupied half are focused through the “handle,” or “nozzle,” in this case Saturn, which is termed the “focal determinator,” and represents the way to greater effectiveness, the cause to be embraced, the lack to be filled, or the way to use the total energies of this time in a focused manner.
Dr. Jones states “the bucket type indicates a particular and rather uncompromising direction in the life effort.” This pattern gives “interest in a cause,” with executive tendencies that will adapt allegiances to maximize results of the effort. He says “the bucket type at its best reveals the real instructor and inspirer of others, and at its worst the agitator and malcontent.” This is the larger planetary pattern within which we’re all trying to do what we do.
We are also told this pattern is more about finding an effective release for energy within social settings, but also about the self imposing its pattern on society rather than adapting to what is there. It’s about focused intention. So all of us can expect some sort of focused attention on the house where we have early Scorpio.
In terms of where the planets fall, since there is an occupied 2/3 and an empty 1/3 this also takes on an element of the “Locomotive” Jones pattern. So along with everything I just wrote, there will also be an element of imbalance that will be very powerful in helping us get things done once we find the right “counterweight.” This particular pattern leads with Saturn and ends with Mercury as the bookends of the occupied span.
Dr. Jones states “The basis of the dynamic is found in the native’s resulting strong sense of a lack or a need, of a problem to be solved, a task to be achieved in the social and intellectual world around him.” We are told it reveals “a self-driving individuality, and executive eccentricity” that leads to power. He says this pattern shows “a dynamic and exceptionally practical capacity” that is neither universal nor narrow.
Of the traditional 10 planets, there are 4 planets in Air signs, 4 in Water, 1 in Fire, and 1 planet in Earth. That shows a heavy emphasis on communications, interactions, information gathering, feelings and direct experience while flowing through a larger feeling-field, with relatively little inspiration, warmth, getting things done, being efficient and practical, and organizing things so they are in our “enlightened self-interest.” In fact, with Uranus the only Fire planet and Pluto being the only Earth planet, inspiration and practicality are at odds during the next few weeks.
Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot. With the current balance, we’ll move between “hot and cold” circumstances and people. While emotions may run high, ideas and communications will be important, even if skewing in many directions that at times will make no sense. Just try to get clear about what you actually know versus what you feel. Just because it is felt does not mean it’s “real.”
Still, with the separating Grand Water Trine and forming Cardinal T-square, we will continue to experience a vaster time frame and a sense of finality as we turn various corners in our lives, with feelings of being connected on deep and vast levels. This is a time to recognize what you feel, and move that deeper and vaster feeling into action in conformity to the new life order already presenting itself. Just stay balanced in the face of those who are out of balance, and keep a sense of perspective when confronted by people who don’t have a healthy sense of proportion.
Wherever we have Gemini and Cancer is going to be highly active, due to the presence of 6 planets in that 36 degree span between Mars at 6 Gemini and Mercury at 12 Cancer. If you have a planet anywhere in that area of the zodiac, you’re going to go through major changes in the part of your psyche represented by the planet and the part of your external affairs symbolized by the house it’s in.
The general theme is that we have now stabilized new feeling patterns as a prelude to new opportunities and blessings coming via the Lunation conjunct Jupiter. We are all moving into a greater group awareness and function, and can now see a new dedication requiring that we continue to move away from the “known and familiar” and follow our avidity into a new way of doing our Being.
Because of Saturn’s path these past several months, through past understanding and practice we have begun to demonstrate a higher level of social functioning. Ultimately, over the next few weeks we will have to know when to be kind, and when to come up out of the depths and get a good dose of “fresh air and sunshine,” especially if we’ve gone deep into some form of an ideal.
Since Saturn in Scorpio is the handle or nozzle of the Bucket pattern, you may want to regard Saturn in that position as symbolizing a type of “bone regeneration,” or the elimination of all in our skin and bones that would block our ability to meet and greet others at a higher level of dignity, reserve, and “civilized” behavior. This shows us a long wave elimination and regeneration work each of us is doing in our own ways and times.
On a final note about Jones Patterns, Saturn will be the nozzle for the rest of the energies for quite a few weeks to come, since it’s still a while before the inner planets are in Leo, Virgo, or Libra. However, since the pattern is now alternating between Bucket and Locomotive, once Jupiter and Saturn are in trine, a lot of what we’ve been dealing with that seems unfocused and spread out will stabilize.
Important Aspects
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes two extremely important forming aspects.
The two major aspects the Lunation makes are a conjunction with Jupiter and biseptile to Neptune. This opens and expands, while simultaneously triggering the Grand Irrationality. The turning points and forks in the road of destiny that will present themselves over the next 4 weeks will be at critical mass when Mars goes through the Gemini zone of the Grand Irrationality between June 18-28.
This Lunation and the Mars transit to come set major elements into motion from when Jupiter occupied the Gemini zone of the Grand Irrationality. These periods were August through November 2012, and the last half of April into early May 2013.
This Lunation activating the Grand Irrationality indicates a very intense 4 week period where this “fork in the road of destiny” configuration the entire planet’s been dealing with for 20 years will be triggered in powerful ways on numerous occasions over these next 4 weeks. It’s probably safe to say that EVERYONE is going through major shifts and making important choices that will affect their destinies for the rest of their lives.
I just gave you the 7 current “hot zones” where the Grand Irrationality is most active in the recent article The Grand Irrationality in May and June 2013 – Jupiter Leaving, Setting Up Triggers and also gave you the times in May and June when the planets are activating this configuration. Since this Lunation is cranking up the energy to an unbelievable degree, if you’re directly affected by this irrational, obsessive-compulsive, hard-edged, and weird energy field, let go of believing it has to make sense, and see what choices you must make so your future trajectory is to your best benefit.
Spirit walks with this configuration, and what direction you choose will determine if the Spirit will grow stronger and closer with you, or if you will move in directions away from Spirit. Given that most of this community is intentionally trying to live in harmony with Life, Nature, and each other, chances are that whatever you – yes, YOU the reader – are confronting will show you a deeper, richer, more powerful Spiritual life. Which is a good thing.
Other than these important forming aspects, others made in this Lunation involve the Sun and Moon sesquisquare Saturn and quadranovile Pluto, Mercury decile Mars and exactly square Uranus, Venus square Uranus and opposed Pluto, Mars sextile Uranus, Saturn trine Neptune and sextile Pluto, and the ever grinding revolutionary energies of Uranus square Pluto. Jupiter makes no forming aspects. That’s very unusual in itself.
Mercury square Uranus keeps the Cardinal T-squares front and center during this time of flowing and plunging, flowing and plunging, and heralds what we will experience during the time when Venus is square Uranus and opposed Pluto on June 11-12. Saturn trine Neptune shows we can trust the flow that moves us forward, or keeps us deep and still, during this time of T-square turmoil! I’ve written extensively on how to handle these Cardinal T-squares in recent articles, so please take a new look if you’re in doubt as to what to do.
The separating aspects show reality already experienced, or things already set into motion. Aspects of note are the Lunation conjunct Mars, sextile Uranus and square Chiron, Mercury conjunct Venus, trine Saturn, trine Neptune and opposed Pluto, Venus conjunct Jupiter, trine Saturn and trine Neptune, Mars quincunx Saturn, square Neptune and biquintile Pluto, Jupiter quintile Uranus and tredecile Neptune, and Saturn biquintile Uranus.
Taken together it shows we’ve come out of a time where we got clear in our understanding, for good or bad. We’ve had sacrifices, adjustments, challenges to ideals and/or illusions, and moved through highly specialized social conditions that showed us what we took care of and can now enjoy, or our past procrastination about something is now boomeranging upon us. We’ve begun to follow new currents, and are occasionally going through whitewater rapids that show us how balanced or imbalanced we are.
The Sabian Symbols for the New Moon
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 19 Gemini. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The symbol is “A large archaic volume” According to Rudhyar’s notes from the Marc Jones class, this degree is one of “Reserve of collective knowledge and wisdom beyond true individual self-expression” and “deference to past experience.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves "contacting the all-human planetary Mind underlying any cultural and personal mentality.” He states this degree shows us the way to the “primordial revelatory Source,” where we can find symbols of “the archetypal processes at the root of all Earthly existence.” These are exteriorizations of “archetypal knowledge and wisdom” which contain “seed ideas from which the human mind grows” producing forms of culture.
He continues that this symbol shows us “the technique by means of which the human mind can uncover the foundations of its nature and acquire what might be called seed knowledge, the knowledge of the structure of cyclic and cosmic manifestations of life on this planet.” He says it falls in the span of Restlessness, and it’s the fourth degree of the actional level of the scene of Exteriorization in the Act of Differentiation. So for this month we’re being taught a technique to find and use “seed knowledge” that has been externalized before now.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “the ultimate indestructability of experience, so that any path once traversed may be taken again with a greater ease and a broader self-discovery.” He says that we are assured “illimitable resources in wisdom,” and can make this manifest in what guides us through practical experience.
He continues that this symbol shows us “the past always provides an illumination of the present, and (we achieve) best as (we culture) a real sense of obligation to (our) own roots.” He offers us the keyword of BACKGROUND. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is “a special capacity for the recovery of prior advantages or the effective disentanglement of present involvements.”
So we enter a time of intense mental and emotional activity where we externalize ideas, or find seed ideas that have been externalized, that can help us get to the core essence of a thing. This is a type of potency in action, so go for the information that can bring you a form of “wealth or power” in the future. The next 4 weeks are expansive, interactive, and sensitive, with new emotional intelligence able to be demonstrated as we go deeper into an important life Mystery.
Other Influences
Pluto, the Cosmic Purifier, will be in Capricorn for many years. It continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. 2012 was mainly about being organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.
We’re now reviewing Pluto’s path of January-February 2013, and continue to learn how to see life as a science experiment as we find hints of a new dedication within the collective field. We can now get glimpses of a “higher Spiritual order” that isn’t yet grounded, and can find opportunity in seeing the “bare trees” or essential of things stripped of the externals.
The next 4 weeks continues to be a time to open to new ways of viewing how to claim our divine power and express it creatively and without fear as we explore the natural laws underlying manifestations, and see Nature Herself as a laboratory where we learn about how our system is constructed. We can “pierce through appearances” to see the magic at the core of things, and through a “keen vision” can find or demonstrate a “universal living touch.” This sets a threshold pattern for what has already begun to surface as a search for a great Mystery in our lives.
As noted in previous articles in this series, due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011 being activated by Jupiter in the recent past through the early April, we have been liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear since then. Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions.
We’ve gone through more layers of peeling off the ghosts of the past in May and June 2013. As Mars crosses 12 Gemini June 15-18, it will mark one of the final phases of letting go connected to the Gemini Solar Eclipse of 2012. Much in the Gemini area of our lives has been shut down since then, I’ve added links to those articles at the bottom of this one so you can check out how the specifics of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse and understand what’s ended and continues to end and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Jupiter in Gemini continues to invite us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of seeing the many facets of an integrated larger picture. Since June 2012 we have been learning how to take the patience and persistence we cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus between June 2011 and June 2012, and have now had a year to open to alternative ways of understanding new discoveries and new interactions.
For the period covered by this last New Moon with Jupiter in Gemini, capping the year process, keep open to new ideas and perspectives, new ways to learn, and see the higher truths all around you. Jupiter has allowed us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."
As Jupiter speeds up in motion, it will accelerate the remainder of our Jupiter in Gemini adventure that finishes in late June. Everything that has been happening since January has the stationary direct degree as the platform underneath all that we’ve reached toward during 2013. The degree is “An old fashioned well,” and we are told it’s a degree of “personal self-renewal and simple organic integrity.”
It’s where we take in and give out the substance of who we are, and are compensated for our efforts. It promises self-reliance and “uncompromising faithfulness,” inner assurance, poise, and holds the promise that if we can sense what is hidden that will nourish us, and then do the simple effort to bring it up to the surface of our lives, then we will find “a fundamental trust in and cooperation with life.” This has been the foundation for all that developed in the first half of 2013.
As noted in a previous article, this Lunation is the ninth New Moon with Saturn in Scorpio. In 2012 we cultivated a new strength, came to a philosophical completion, and finished repairing or reconstructing something so that some final dues are now paid and old karmas left behind. We are growing into a new intensity, focus, emotional depth, and greater maturity relative to shared values, shared resources, deeper ability to commune with others as well as Nature and Spirit, and getting a more structured connection and a more powerful Spiritual linkage with others and ourselves.
We’ve now shifted into a pattern of deciding, then feeling, and then thinking. This New Moon shows that over the next 4 weeks we lead with decisions and actions, and then will reference our feelings and experience about those decisions and actions. After we decide or act and then feel, we then need to find newer, more up to date information so we can get a new way of viewing those actions and our experience of those actions.
So get it in gear, and then go to your feelings and check in about how you’re experiencing those decisions and actions, after which find a new view, a new understanding, new information, and new interactions that can help you see clearly what must be done and how. Then do it, and again feel what you must on the basis of that decision. Periods of solitude may be required after a critical decision or action. After that direct experience of feelings the results of your decision and action, then find the information from which a new understanding will arise, or a new way to communicate, or a new vision.
Here we enter an active period setting a new pace, so be open as you find the knowledge you need for future effectiveness. This is a time to find core ideas and understanding that helps us see the bare essentials of some facet of our Life Mystery. Those who have cultivated a relationship with their “invisible helpers” in the past will find great value and/or beauty in the harmonious flow into an “unusual good luck.”
A great Life Mystery beckons to each and all of us. Search for it. Allow the revelation to present itself so your mind may be illuminated by the feeling-wisdom of your Soul. We are offered the ability to “join the human race” by demonstrating our talents and skills, and can find a greater life significance by embodying “universal values in (our) everyday consciousness.” Those who are skillful can materialize “Godlike resources or superior powers of self to a point of real community service.”
We’ve now entered a time of very open and expansive growth through decisions and actions. Show your worth within the larger collective field or endeavor, allow yourself to take the initiative in learning old things for new applications, and enjoy the flow while staying balanced as you move through the sequence of Cardinal T-squares.

Robert,
June 28, 1944, Natal Chart has my 12th house cusp at 9 Gemini and these planets fall in my 12th house - Uranus 10 Gemini, Saturn 1 Cancer, Mercury 2 Cancer, Sun 6 Cancer, Venus 7 Cancer. Ascendant is 11 Cancer and my Descendant at 11 Capricorn, and Neptune and Moon are in 4th house at 1 and 4 degrees Libra. Guess I should be used to difficult aspects and such, but this seems rough. Thank you for the articles you put so much effort into, it helps to see a bigger picture.
