Time to dance! Tonight our Saturday Night Attitude let’s us know it’s all right!
There have been many songs called “It’s All Right.” So tonight, that phrase is the theme of the dance! We begin with the song that kept running through my brain that began this journey where we keep dancing to “It’s alright.”
I found this clip from Shindig in 1964 at the peak of “the British Invasion,” with Adam Faith backed by the Isley Brothers and the Newbeats twisting up a storm! This is a joyous three chord number to dance to written by the great Chris Andrews, a rave up that will help us get it cranked up!
Moving from raving up to gettin' down in a smooth soul groove, from 1965 on the Hollywood A Go Go Show, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions letting us know that "It’s All Right "
Here’s Brian Poole and the Tremeloes groovin’ to their version of Curtis’ song! "It’s All Right"
In the same soulful mood, here’s Sam Cooke doing a song he wrote with our Saturday Night Attitude title! “It’s All Right”
Back to shakin’ it! Here’s Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan live in concert in 1999 to benefit the Crossroads performing Zimmie’s iconic song with a danceable groove, “(Don’t Think Twice) It’s All Right”
Here’s Eric in an entirely different performance of the tune, this time with a VERY bloozy rhythm and beat! From the 30th anniversary concert in 1993, “(Don’t Think Twice) It’s All Right”
Speaking of Lucky Wilbury, here’s a great live performance at Budokan of a very danceable “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)”
And if you want to sit one out, here’s Bob with only his guitar live and on stage in a 1986 video doing a more familiar arrangement of “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)”
As long as we’re taking a break from dance tunes with the Attitude title, from Pop Goes the Country in 1978, Dolly Parton in a live video performance of “It’s All Wrong But It’s All Right”
This one you can dance to! It’s a duet of two legends of jazz, the amazing talents of Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald live on videotape performing “It’s All Right With Me”
From 1969, an extremely rare video clip of Free performing their monster hit “All Right Now” (I know it isn’t the exact title, but the line is “Baby it’s all right now” so I figure it counts!)
Here’s Cee Lo Green in a 2011 live performance of his tune titled “It’s Alright”
We’ll end with the same song we started with, another video that rocks as hard as the first one! For your final twist and shout of the night, Adam Faith groovin’ to “It’s Alright”
And truly, for all of you, I hope it is "all right."
