Thanks to a friend of the site, I remembered I published this on FB but not here. These projection maps are courtesy of National Geographic, and show how the various continents and their shorelines will be reshaped as the ice melts and the oceans rise.
As the Buzzfeed article says, “On the upside, Antarctica will make an great seaside resort,” just after the subtitle states “National Geographic shows how most coastal cities will be decimated and the population exodus will put a strain on midland resources.” Given we are not slowing or stopping the ice melt in either Antarctica or Greenland, we can expect the coastlines to look something like these maps sooner as well as later.
I am reminded that we also are told by ancient chronicles that during shifts between great Ages, there are major Earth changes, with some places sinking below the waves while other land masses rise up from the ocean floor. Given the entire Pacific Rim, the so-called “Ring of Fire,” is one gigantic earthquake zone, we can expect things to continue to rock and roll for our lifetimes and beyond. And the strain will go beyond “midland resources,” since wiping out coastal cities globally will displace hundreds of millions of people.
For your amazement, From National Geographic, “This Is What Earth Will Look Like If All The Ice Melts.”
