This Full Moon at 26 Sagittarius-Gemini is distributive, awakening, and marks the beginning of a new Uranian adventure. This one helps us renew our resolve and see the essence of things, and opens ideas about how to take care of ourselves and others with a focus on finding ways to express the new archetypes revealed in 2010. Our wisdom will be again put to the test.
Today’s article covers various rising signs around the globe and an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In part 2 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
This distributive, exploratory, and future-oriented Full Moon that marks the beginning of a new life adventure falls at the 26th degree of Gemini and Sagittarius. This Lunation, bringing us to a threshold in all Venus ruled and related areas and a launch point in all Uranus-influenced things, occurs December 17 at 1:28 am PST, 4:28 am EST, 9:28 am Greenwich.
So What's Happening Where?
Now we take a look at the rising signs around the world. The Lunation finds 17 Libra rising in Santa Monica, 11 Libra in Vancouver, 15 Scorpio in Toronto, 19 Scorpio in Montreal, and 19 Scorpio in Washington DC, showing (from west to east) mid-Libra through mid-Scorpio as the rising signs across North America.
Continuing east, we find 14 Capricorn rising in Rio, 19 Capricorn in Lisbon, 16 Capricorn in London, 2 Aquarius in Berlin, 28 Aquarius in Sofia, 18 Pisces in Johannesburg, and 18 Pisces in Moscow. That means the span of Ascendants across the Atlantic to Central Europe and Africa is between mid-Capricorn and mid-Pisces.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find the Ascendants to be 16 Taurus in Abbottabad, 18 Taurus in New Delhi, 10 Taurus in Trivandrum, 5 Gemini in Jakarta, 24 Gemini in Hong Kong, 23 Cancer in Tokyo, 3 Gemini in Perth, 25 Gemini in Melbourne, 8 Cancer in Brisbane, 21 Cancer in Wellington, and 14 Virgo rising on Maui (late Dec 16).
So you can construct a rough chart for where you are in the world, I’ll give you the rounded up degree for each planet. Use the Ascendants given above to get a rough sense of what’s on the eastern horizon where you are, and using an Equal House system, you can see what’s going on in your part of the world for the next 2 weeks.
In this Full Moon with the Sun at 26 Sagittarius and the Moon at 26 Gemini, Mercury is 19 Sagittarius, Venus is 29 Capricorn (SRX degree!), Mars is 5 Libra, Jupiter is 18 Cancer RX, Saturn is 19 Scorpio, Uranus is 9 Aries RX (SD degree!), Neptune is 3 Pisces (on its SD degree), Pluto is 11 Capricorn, TransPluto is 1 Virgo, Chiron is 10 Pisces, and the NN is 7 Scorpio.
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon in Sagittarius pt 1 – What’s Happening in December 2013 and The December New Moon in Sagittarius Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means.
Those around the world who will definitely feel effects of this Full Moon are the places where it falls near the angles of the chart. Places on our list where the Lunation is near the angles and activating energies powerfully are (Sun/Moon): Sofia, Moscow, and Johannesburg (MC/IC), Jakarta and Hong Kong (Dsc/Asc), Maui (IC/MC), and Rio (Asc/Dsc).
An Overview
An overview of this period ruled by this Full Moon shows it will illuminate how we need to move into a broader point of view about what we’re here to do, and reorient however we need to. Reorientation to provide for everyday and future need is a huge theme of this Full Moon. This will put the focus on individual, mental, and spiritual energy in receiving gifts and unique insights as things begin to fragment. We are still getting front end looks at what Saturn will solidify in November 2014.
This Lunation is high on gifts as well as tensions, with a focus on feelings and unexpected turns of events. It features a search for new ways of surviving the gear grinds of life, and if necessary, “moves to distant lands.” It definitely puts the spotlight on finding new ways to live!
There are a mixed bag of aspects in this chart. There are no trines, only one out of sign sextile, and a lot of wide frictional aspects except for the exact Jupiter sesquisquare Neptune, showing agitation and aggravation in the collective atmosphere.
This Lunation indicates a huge need for “mental movement,” acknowledging the core of what is, having optimism and willingness to dedicate ourselves to what could be, while continuing to have faith to resolve dualities as we see the Grand Irrationality at work via the Saturn septile Pluto and biseptile Neptune. This continues a very intense period where Saturn is anchoring a third point in the configuration, indicating destiny has been and continues to be on the move for the entire world related to Scorpio themes. A quick look at our world makes it easy to see these themes.
A second booster for these non-rational energies of widespread choice and change (that often make no sense) is found in the Sun biseptile Uranus. So Saturn dances in a non-rational relationship with Neptune and Pluto, while the Sun is releasing huge “turning point” energies via a non-rational relationship with Uranus.
I’ll give you the zones of the Grand Irrationality in the next section. For now, the Sun biseptile Uranus is creating 7 other “hot zones:” 24-28 Sagittarius, 15-19 Aquarius, 7-11 Aries, 28 Taurus – 2 Gemini, 20-24 Cancer, 11-15 Virgo, and 2-6 Scorpio. If you have a planet or angle in any of these 7 zones, then the Sun biseptile Uranus will correlate to some dramatic shifts in your life!
The two configurations together show that while we live in a time of very heavy decisions determining the future destiny of humanity, we also are at a turning point about how our light and life are or are not conforming to the challenges to individualize Uranus has awakened since June 2012. This was heralded in early November by Venus, and we’ll know more when Mercury crosses the Solar degree and makes its biseptile to Uranus just before the Winter Solstice.
The focus of the light shows a way for us to understand and communicate in different ways, aware of the essential nature of the “landscape,” whether inner or outer, personal or interpersonal. Expect some realistic and necessary adjustments, where the efficiency we demonstrated after the Scorpio Full Moon can now be utilized productively. Just monitor your expectancies, and see how all you’ve lost has helped you link your worldly and spiritual vehicles.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
As I just noted, The Grand Irrationality is put into long-term play in this Lunation by Saturn septile Pluto and biseptile Neptune. I wrote extensively about this long term configuration in part 1 of the New Moon in Sagittarius articles, as well as in Astrology in November-December 2013 - The Grand Irrationality Affecting Everyone and Astrology in late November and Early December 2013 – In the Heart of the Grand Irrationality. When you’re done here, please check out those articles to find the current seven “hot zone” spans and times when this larger configuration associated with non-rational behavior and conditions will be activated.
Saturn at 19 Scorpio in this chart is the exact degree where Mercury went stationary on October 21. Saturn should strengthen and give form to what Mercury biseptile Neptune and septile Pluto promised at the recent Lunar Eclipse as well. As these Saturn positions “primed the pump” for the Grand Irrationality energies set loose at this time, you can find out more about that Mercury retrograde station setting up numerous triggers of The Grand Irrationality by re-reading The Guide of Souls in October 2013 – Mercury Slowing Down Preparing to Go Retrograde at 19 Scorpio.
To note, this configuration will be in full force during the time Saturn occupies the Scorpio zone of the Grand Irrationality through late January 2014, giving us a taste of what will be happening when it retrogrades back through the zone in March and early April. At the current time, those most affected by this irrational, compulsive, “fork in the road of destiny” type of energy have planets or angles around 8-13 Capricorn, 30 Aquarius-5 Pisces, 21-26 Aries, 13-18 Gemini, 4-9 Leo, 25-30 Virgo, or 16-21 Scorpio.
For December, this configuration is activated every day the Moon and Ascendant are in any of the 7 hot zones. The days the Moon focuses the energy through the end of the month are Dec 16, 20, 24, and 28-29. Next Month’s New Moon at 11 Capricorn at 3:14 am PST, 6:14 am EST, and 11:14 am Greenwich on Jan 1 will be square-on conjunct Pluto triggering the configuration, so consider the next two weeks a period to learn and adapt as needed to the intense pressure the next New Moon promises!
We will get a VERY INTENSE dose when the Sun and Mercury transit the Capricorn zone of the Grand Irrationality just before and after New Year’s Eve and Day. And again, along with the Grand Irrationality influence, this year’s transits in Capricorn form a serious set of Cardinal T-squares happening on December 25-26, and December 29-January 3. Play it safe!!
As I’ve noted previously, Neptune is now closing in on a septile with Pluto in this chart, and will be a factor in all celestial events at this time of the year. However, they will begin to pull apart again in late January, and by next Spring will again be too wide an orb to be in septile, which is the main aspect anchoring the Grand Irrationality. Right now Neptune is 52 degrees and 10 minutes away from Pluto, but by the end of May they’ll be 54d 30m apart, which is a little too wide for the septile.
As I explained in a recent article, that just means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they are now operating as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we’ll experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
Important Factors
As I said, this Lunation brings us a mixed bag of aspects. On the harmonious side, we have Mercury tredecile Uranus and quintile Neptune, with Venus almost stationary retrograde semisextile to the Sun, quintile Uranus, and decile Neptune. Other than these, there’s only the out of sign sextile of the Sun to Neptune. Overall, unique flashes of insight and “foreknowledge” as well as high inventiveness for those who know how to concentrate.
In the friction department, we find Moon quincunx Venus, Venus widely opposed Jupiter, Mars opposition Uranus and square Pluto, and Jupiter exactly sesquisquare Neptune and widely opposed Pluto. As previously noted, this will show as an aggravation in the atmosphere, along with the beginning of a review of old realizations from last Summer to make adjustments. We got “recalibrated” during the Cardinal T-squares at work then, and Mars is now testing our ability to stay balanced and keep a healthy sense of perspective.
Take nothing for granted, and be skillful in displaying your enthusiasms. Don’t let things spin out of proportion, be careful in extreme situations or when with extreme people. There will be some wreckage, so search for basic understanding and keep a sense of humor or irony about whatever it is that is being curbed from a form of “recklessness.”
Due to Saturn’s station in February, up to now we’re been learning a more refined level of social interaction, or a higher, more sophisticated and refined way of relating to ours and others’ feelings as we move through social experiences. This is a very long term structuring power offered to humanity at this time.
We also have had numerous opportunities to learn the power of harmlessness, and those who have lessened their fear can now radiate a calm that transcends normal understanding. This Lunation is about us concretizing the higher or deeper realizations we danced with in November, or making important decisions about what we discovered then.
We all began to learn how to overcome fear in the Spring of 2012, and then entered an unknown space time sector where we began to learn to view much of what goes on at core through a sense of life being a “science experiment,” with our task to understand the laws that underlie what’s going on. Now that Saturn has finished the sextile to Pluto it made between Oct 2012 and Nov 2013 and is in the heart of the destiny producing septile with Pluto, understand the value, responsibility, and limitations around those intensified feelings, and experience what has already been set as a platform structure of a new life inertia or momentum.
I’ll write more about these things in part 2. The next two weeks will bring new tests of learning to become “the standard bearer” for a greater group effort focused in our ability to see the beauty in the essence of things when stripped of outer things. Expect unique insights, gifts allowing you to interpret signs and signals in extraordinary ways, and you may see a way to a greater truth and freedom in action!
Making specific types of “leaps of faith” to overcome some duality will be key to seeing how to put your wisdom to the test of applied action, as well as how to be more free while still taking care of everyday needs and concerns. Many will gain higher responsibilities that allow a greater movement and freedom of action. Everything depends on how we choose to reorient.
Again, to some extent this continues some themes in last month’s Full Moon in Scorpio-Taurus, since we continue to glimpse our “indestructibility,” and can venture forth with joy and faith that it’s all an experiment in educating ourselves and others in efficient functioning and finding a way to feel at home in any environment. We now have established our personal form of “emotional intelligence,” and are preparing for a greater field of effective practice.
Since Jupiter is still retrograde in Cancer, we are reviewing and finding new ways to apply the emotional intelligence we built in June, July, and August. The coming 2 1/2 months will help us get new understanding about what we consider to be true about those new cares, new feelings, and a new sense of stability we’ve embraced since then.
Jupiter has been in Cancer for all Lunations since July. That shows we’re in a one year period where family and personal feelings will continue to run strong, so be clear about what you’re feeling that feeds you, or nurtures your growth in some personal way. We’ve all gone deeper into how we experience everything, and this period is about taking a new look at how we measure success, and figuring out how to “put on the show” and receive what we need from our audience.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
This is the fifth Full Moon where the Sun falls in the same sign to the Sun at the previous New Moon. We’re now back to the “normal” pattern we last experienced between September 2010 and June 2011. We’re now done with the “reversed pattern” we’ve been dealing with since July 2011, where the Full Moon Sun was in a different sign than the previous New Moon.
As I've explained in previous Full Moon articles,
... the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepares the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of Lunations works the opposite way....Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way Lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon....
So Sept 2010 through June 2011 we had the New Moon Sun in the same sign as the subsequent Full Moon Sun every month. From July 2011 the pattern continued, but the New Moon began to fall at the end of the month, with the Full Moon in the middle of the next month. Even though the New Moon Sun was in the same sign as the Full Moon Sun, the seeds were set into motion at the end of a month, with Full Moon activity beginning the middle of the next month.
This shifted in May-June 2012, when we had a New Moon at 1 Gemini in late May, a Full Moon at 15 Gemini-Sag in early June, and another New Moon at 29 Gemini in late June. That began the sequence of the New Moon Sun at the end of one sign, with the following Full Moon Sun in the next sign.
So June 2012 began the reversed experience from the “normal” New Moon-Full Moon cycle. We had an illuminated form shown to us at the Full Moon, followed by the Sun being in the same sign as the previous Full Moon. This is fulfillment followed by similar Solar seeds of potential while reversing the natural process.
So that’s now done for many months, and we’re again in a sequence where the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun. To illustrate, the January 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Capricorn, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Aquarius. The February 10, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Aquarius, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Pisces.
Continuing through the Spring, the March 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Pisces, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 7 Aries. The April 10 New Moon Sun was at 21 Aries, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 6 Taurus. The May 9 New Moon Solar Eclipse was at 20 Taurus, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 5 Gemini. The June 8 New Moon was at 19 Gemini, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 3 Cancer.
This “reversed Sun sign” phenomenon has now ended. In August we had a New Moon Sun at 15 Leo on August 6-7, and then the Full Moon Sun at 29 Leo. In September we had a New Moon Sun at 14 Virgo, and then we had a Full Moon Sun at 27 Virgo. In October we had a New Moon Sun at 12 Libra, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Libra.
In November, we had a New Moon Solar Eclipse Sun at 12 Scorpio, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Scorpio. This month we had a New Moon at 11 Sagittarius, and now have a Full Moon Sun at 26 Sagittarius. This restores the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, offering us seeds shown in the first half, fulfillment in the second half.
In part two, we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.

Well allrighty now. The next two weeks seem like they will be interesting, to say the least...and thrown right there in with the holidays! Yowza. "Take nothing for granted..." Sounds like a time of "hold onto your hat Martha" to me. It helps me to remember that we really did choose to be here at this particular time but sometimes I'm like really, really? What were you thinkin' girl?!!
