This Full Moon at 26 Capricorn-Cancer is initiating, organizing, sensitive, and brings us deeper adjustments to social requirements and shows us what’s coming. This one helps us keep things on track and not get distracted by passing interruptions. We’ll get a new take on the consequences that happened in 2011, or we’ll find out the consequences of what we did or did not do then.
Today’s article covers various rising signs around the globe and an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In part 2 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
This activating, grounding, and resource-gathering Full Moon that marks a point of accelerated growth and seeing future patterns falls at the 26th degree of Cancer and Capricorn. This Lunation, a highly specializing and unique balancing influence giving us glimpses of what’s to come in the third week of April and again in late June, occurs January 15, 2014 at 8:52 pm PST, 11:52 pm EST, and January 16, 4:52 am Greenwich.
So What's Happening Where?
Now we take a look at the rising signs around the world. The Lunation finds 14 Virgo rising in Santa Monica, 13 Virgo in Vancouver, 15 Libra in Toronto, 19 Libra in Montreal, and 18 Libra in Washington DC, showing (from west to east) mid-Virgo through mid-Libra as the rising signs across North America.
Continuing east, we find 7 Sagittarius rising in Rio (Jan 16), 12 Sagittarius in Lisbon, 10 Sagittarius in London, 20 Sagittarius in Berlin, 8 Capricorn in Sofia, 13 Aquarius in Johannesburg, and 7 Capricorn in Moscow. That means the span of Ascendants across the Atlantic to Central Europe and Africa is between early Sagittarius and mid-Aquarius.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find the Ascendants to be 18 Pisces in Abbottabad, 24 Pisces in New Delhi, 25 Pisces in Trivandrum, 27 Aries in Jakarta, 12 Taurus in Hong Kong, 18 Gemini in Tokyo, 30 Aries in Perth, 22 Taurus in Melbourne, 3 Gemini in Brisbane, 14 Gemini in Wellington, and 8 Leo rising on Maui (Jan 15).
So you can construct a rough chart for where you are in the world, I’ll give you the rounded up degree for each planet. Use the Ascendants given above to get a rough sense of what’s on the eastern horizon where you are, and using an Equal House system, you can see what’s going on in your part of the world for the next 2 weeks.
In this Full Moon with the Sun at 26 Capricorn and the Moon at 26 Cancer, Mercury is 8 Aquarius, Venus is 19 Capricorn retrograde, Mars is 18 Libra, Jupiter is 15 Cancer RX, Saturn is 22 Scorpio, Uranus is 9 Aries (SD degree!), Neptune is 4 Pisces, Pluto is 12 Capricorn (April 2013 SRX degree!), TransPluto is 1 Virgo retrograde, Chiron is 11 Pisces, and the NN is 4 Scorpio.
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon in Capricorn Pt. 1 – What’s Happening in January 2014 and The December New Moon in Capricorn Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means.
Those around the world who will definitely feel effects of this Full Moon are the places where it falls near the angles of the chart. Places on our list where the Lunation is near the angles and activating energies powerfully are (Sun/Moon): Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Perth (MC/IC), Maui (Dsc/Asc), Toronto, Montreal, and Washington DC (IC/MC), and Berlin, Sofia, Johannesburg, and Moscow (Asc/Dsc).
An Overview
An overview of this period ruled by this Full Moon shows it will illuminate how we need to be sensitive to the flow of natural energy, see the limitless possibilities, and yet conform to our highest standard as we allow consciousness to come forth on higher levels as a result of fulfilling ourselves on “normal levels.” This Full Moon will force us to concentrate and figure out how to sustain our outreaching activities.
This will put the focus on individual, mental, and spiritual energy in some form of organized group work, and give a boost to the process of personality integration we began last Summer. This sets patterns into motion that will be radically expanded in July 2014.
This Lunation is high on gifts as well as tensions, with a focus on feelings and unexpected diversions that keep us clear about the right means to the ends as we fit things into a long range perspective. This will show us how to act, quickly and directly, in our own interests as we find the right balance and perspective moving through the gear grinds of life.
There are a mixed bag of aspects in this chart. There are three huge squares, an incredibly powerful opposition, quintile, tredecile configuration, and two aspects that indicate we’re going to be learning how to transcend a duality by making a leap of faith, and in that leap we attain a subtle form of mastery over dualisms. Clearly the Cardinal T-square formed by Jupiter opposition Pluto with both square Uranus shows we’ll all be learning how to keep our equilibrium, equipoise, and sense of perspective as some fairly frictional energies that are present in the collective atmosphere start building to the Great Fracturing of April 2014.
Even though Saturn is temporarily separating from its biseptile to Neptune and septile to Pluto, the Grand Irrationality is still is full sway, since any time the Moon or any other planet moves through any of the 7 hot zones activating this configuration, it gets triggered! So it’s not front and center as a theme for this Full Moon, but it will continue to be activated every few days.
This continues a very intense period where Saturn is anchoring a third point in the configuration, indicating destiny has been and continues to be on the move for the entire world related to Scorpio themes. A quick look at our world makes it easy to see these themes.
A second booster for these non-rational energies of widespread choice and change (that often make no sense) is found in Mercury triseptile Jupiter in the chart, which is a great cooperative-collective interaction at an important fork in the road that will determine future patterns. So while Saturn dances in a non-rational relationship with Neptune and Pluto, Mercury is releasing huge “turning point” energies via a non-rational relationship with Jupiter.
I’ll give you the zones of the Grand Irrationality in the next section. For now, Mercury triseptile Jupiter is creating 7 other “hot zones:” 16-20 Sagittarius, 7-11 Aquarius, 29 Pisces-3 Aries, 21-25 Taurus, 13-17 Cancer, 4-8 Virgo, and 25-29 Libra. If you have a planet or angle in any of these 7 zones, then the Sun biseptile Uranus will correlate to some dramatic shifts in your life!
The two configurations together show that while we live in a time of very heavy decisions determining the future destiny of humanity, we also are at a turning point about how our light and life are or are not conforming to the challenges to individualize Uranus has awakened since June 2012.
The focus of the light shows a way for us to nurture and care for some aspect of our individuality or spiritual life that truly matters to us and forms some of our living habits in acting, feeling, and thinking. This one helps us shift living and feeling patterns and will help us re-ground ourselves in the finest aesthetic standards we value at our source. This one helps us know “where we live,” and how to access boundless natural energies via the World Soul.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
As I just noted, The Grand Irrationality is not being specifically activated by a planet in this Full Moon chart, even if it is still very heavy in the general atmosphere due to Saturn septile Pluto and biseptile Neptune. I wrote extensively about this long term configuration in Astrology in November-December 2013 - The Grand Irrationality Affecting Everyone and Astrology in late November and Early December 2013 – In the Heart of the Grand Irrationality. When you’re done here, please check out those articles to find the current seven “hot zone” spans and times when this larger configuration associated with non-rational behavior and conditions will be activated.
For December, this configuration is activated every day the Moon and Ascendant are in any of the 7 hot zones. The days the Moon focuses the energy through the end of the month are Jan 16, 20-21, 25, and 28-29. We will get a VERY INTENSE dose of this configuration at the end of January into February as Mercury slows, preparing to go stationary retrograde at 4 Pisces on Feb 6, 1:43 pm PST, 9:43 pm Greenwich. That is clearly in the Pisces zone of the Grand Irrationality, setting the stage for many events to be triggered in late February through late April.
As I’ve noted previously, Neptune is very close to an exact septile with Pluto in this chart, and will be a factor in all celestial events at this time of the year. However, they will begin to pull apart again in late January, and by Spring will again be too wide an orb to be in septile, which is the main aspect anchoring the Grand Irrationality. Right now Neptune is 52 degrees and 52 minutes away from Pluto, but by the end of May they’ll be 54d 30m apart, which is a little too wide for the septile.
As I explained in a recent article, that just means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they are now operating as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we’ll experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
Important Factors
As I said, this Lunation brings us a mixed bag of aspects. On the harmonious side, we have Moon tredecile Uranus and biquintile Neptune, Mercury triseptile Jupiter and sextile Uranus, and Sun quintile Uranus and decile Neptune. Overall, a fairly productive and highly unique interactive period when “serendipity” is on the move and many will receive unique gifts and circumstances perfect for their situation, or will find their unique way of sensing things in collective consciousness.
In the friction department, we find Venus square Mars and opposed Jupiter, Mars sesquisquare Neptune, and the previously noted Jupiter square Uranus and opposed Pluto. Then we add Saturn sesquisquare Uranus and Uranus square Pluto, and it indicates major irritation that will seem as though a pressure cooker is building steam and something is about to blow, but there’s no crisis as of yet. To note, since the Mars in Libra is now being squared by Venus retrograde in Capricorn, we’re again going to experience a “recalibration” testing our ability to be moderate in our responses, stay balanced and reasonable, and keep a healthy sense of perspective.
Figure out what is a passing distraction, and keep things on track. Reduce extremes of response, and find a “strife transcending and unattached outlook on everyday reality.” Preserve your power, find the system that “protects” you, and be willing to accept an accelerated pace, since things have quickened, even if it’s taking a while for it to get in gear.
As usual with Mars in Libra, don’t let things spin out of proportion, and be very balanced in extreme situations or when with extreme people. We will all be dealing with consequences, whether those born of past or present actions or non-actions, or considering potential consequences that may arise from current action or non-action.
We will experience a Mars response or lesson based on what we learned about “consequences” in 2011. Something related to then could become an irritant, or require action, or recalibration. Be moderate in all responses, be balanced when it’s time to repair or reconstruct something, and follow through on using what Saturn taught you in 2011 to concentrate on what matters now. This one quickens us, but in a strangely restricted way.
We all began to learn how to overcome fear in the Spring of 2012, and then entered an unknown space time sector where we began to learn to view much of what goes on at core through a sense of life being a “science experiment,” with our task to understand the laws that underlie what’s going on. We’re now getting another look at the natural processes showing the magic at the core of things, and can allow a quickening in our growth even as we navigate “traffic jams” in the collective consciousness.
I’ll write more about these things in part 2. The next two weeks will bring new tests of fulfilling a natural role where we can explore higher and deeper ways to be, and see the power of symbols all around us. Expect unique insights, gifts allowing you to interpret signs and signals in extraordinary ways, and you may see a way to a greater effectiveness and self-preservation.
Making specific types of “leaps of faith” to overcome some duality will be key to seeing how to put your Light into applied action, as well as how to see a broader or wider benefit in “materializing the spiritual” by linking the aspiration to some collective ideal. We’ll certainly all be taking another look at potential consequences of what we’re doing or not doing over the next couple of weeks!
Even though temporarily separating, Jupiter and Saturn both in Water signs will continue to help us stabilize and understand the emotional intelligence we’ve been developing since June 2013. In recent months, we’ve glimpsed our “indestructibility,” and can now use that as a foundation to get ready to use our recent and current “peak experiences” to transform our lives beginning in a very few weeks once Saturn goes retrograde. So really, we’ve all established our personal form of “emotional intelligence,” and are preparing for a greater field of effective practice.
Related to this, since Jupiter is still retrograde in Cancer, we are reviewing and finding new ways to apply the emotional intelligence we built in June, July, and August. The coming 7 weeks will help us get new understanding about what we consider to be true about those new cares, new feelings, and a new sense of stability we’ve embraced since then.
Jupiter has been in Cancer for all Lunations since July. That shows we’re in a one year period where family and personal feelings will continue to run strong, so be clear about what you’re feeling that feeds you, or nurtures your growth in some personal way. We’ve all gone deeper into how we experience everything, and this period is about taking a new look at how we measure success, and figuring out how to “put on the show” and receive what we need from our audience.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
This is the sixth Full Moon where the Sun falls in the same sign to the Sun at the previous New Moon. We’re now back to the “normal” pattern we last experienced between September 2010 and June 2011. We’re now done with the “reversed pattern” we’ve been dealing with since July 2011, where the Full Moon Sun was in a different sign than the previous New Moon.
As I've explained in previous Full Moon articles,
... the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepares the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of Lunations works the opposite way....Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way Lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon....
So Sept 2010 through June 2011 we had the New Moon Sun in the same sign as the subsequent Full Moon Sun every month. From July 2011 the pattern continued, but the New Moon began to fall at the end of the month, with the Full Moon in the middle of the next month. Even though the New Moon Sun was in the same sign as the Full Moon Sun, the seeds were set into motion at the end of a month, with Full Moon activity beginning the middle of the next month.
This shifted in May-June 2012, when we had a New Moon at 1 Gemini in late May, a Full Moon at 15 Gemini-Sag in early June, and another New Moon at 29 Gemini in late June. That began the sequence of the New Moon Sun at the end of one sign, with the following Full Moon Sun in the next sign.
So June 2012 began the reversed experience from the “normal” New Moon-Full Moon cycle. We had an illuminated form shown to us at the Full Moon, followed by the Sun being in the same sign as the previous Full Moon. This is fulfillment followed by similar Solar seeds of potential while reversing the natural process.
So that’s now done for many months, and we’re again in a sequence where the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun. To illustrate, the January 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Capricorn, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Aquarius. The February 10, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Aquarius, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Pisces.
Continuing through the Spring, the March 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Pisces, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 7 Aries. The April 10 New Moon Sun was at 21 Aries, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 6 Taurus. The May 9 New Moon Solar Eclipse was at 20 Taurus, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 5 Gemini. The June 8 New Moon was at 19 Gemini, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 3 Cancer.
This “reversed Sun sign” phenomenon has now ended. In August we had a New Moon Sun at 15 Leo on August 6-7, and then the Full Moon Sun at 29 Leo. In September we had a New Moon Sun at 14 Virgo, and then we had a Full Moon Sun at 27 Virgo. In October we had a New Moon Sun at 12 Libra, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Libra.
In November, we had a New Moon Solar Eclipse Sun at 12 Scorpio, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Scorpio. In December, we had a New Moon at 11 Sagittarius, and then a Full Moon at 26 Sagittarius. This month we had a New Moon at 11 Capricorn, and now have a Full Moon Sun at 26 Capricorn. This restores the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, offering us seeds shown in the first half, fulfillment in the second half.
In part two, we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.

This is yet another cardinal T square for me, squaring by only a few mins of exact, my libra/aries asc/desc axis. Transit Mercury is in my 4th house quincunx natal Merc in Cancer 9th, I am once again being severely tested to let go of who I am and cow tow to doing what I am told, get back into line or suffer the consequences by the family I was born into and I am strongly feeling this, physically as well as psychologically. Its like being a rocket all engines firing on the launch pad, yet something is holding it back and pulling away is painful, the passion for take off however is too strong to let the pain win...
Although Perths ascendant is 4' degrees off my aries descendant so too far to be have the conjunction affect, I do sense that Perth, will also be left behind with coming choices, time for this 9th house "gypsy" sun to travel again, somehow. I am dealing with grief as I really had hoped for healing with my family and a meeting half way win/win healing solution so they would be with me on my journey forth, which now although I havent completely given up on that possibility, is unlikely.
I am somewhat manic, the highs and lows are extreme, thank goodness I have faith, currently expanded by Jupiter in Cancer, as my life raft, would like to be surfing like Diane tho, sounds like an adventure :)

Thanks Robert. I am looking forward to releasing more and more outmoded ways of seeing my life and the way I see myself. I am also working on letting go of some bad habits too!!!!

I have been increasingly agitated over the last 2 days or so culminating in tears earlier this evening as the moon was rising. My rising sign is Cancer and every now and then a full moon can set me on edge to feeling like an over tight piano string. I feel better now knowing that my sensitive crabby side has been bought out by the Gemini moon which is also my natal placement along with an Aquarius sun, Mercury in Aquarius and Chiron in Pisces. I am in Brisbane Australia hence the Gemini full moon.
