This initiating, self-gathering, protective Full Moon is helping us see the light of what we believe “success” would look like, and leading us with caution and protection through a major transformational period into finding and knowing what honesty and truth look like.
The Lunation falls at the 21st degree of Cancer and Capricorn. This combination of energies opening us to a clearer sense of how we have or have not taken advantage of opportunities in play since last Autumn occurs July 12 at 4:25 am PDT, 7:25 am EDT and 12:25 pm Greenwich (BST).
The last three Full Moons were the “Three High Moons” of the Northern Hemispheric Spring. The first was the Full Moon of Spring, the second was the Wesak Festival, which helped open a new “Buddha Wisdom” of some compassionate form that helps us all to end suffering, and offered us some stability after the Great Fracturing of March-April. The last Full Moon was the Christ Fest, when the Wesak Wisdom was distributed as a new “World Teaching” by the One in charge of this place.
Today’s Full Moon post covers various rising signs around the globe and an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
So What's Happening Where?
Now we take a look at the rising signs around the world. The Lunation finds 1 Cancer rising in Santa Monica, 9 Cancer in Vancouver, 9 Leo in Toronto, 14 Leo in Montreal, and 8 Leo in Washington DC, showing (from west to east) early Cancer through mid-Leo as the rising signs across North America.
Continuing east, we find 20 Leo rising in Rio, 2 Libra in Lisbon, 8 Libra in London, 18 Libra in Berlin, 28 Libra in Sofia, 22 Scorpio in Johannesburg, and 3 Scorpio in Moscow. That means the span of Ascendants across Europe and Africa is between early Libra and late Scorpio.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find the Ascendants to be 11 Sagittarius in Abbottabad, 17 Sagittarius in New Delhi, 26 Sagittarius in Trivandrum, 29 Capricorn in Jakarta, 25 Capricorn in Hong Kong, 18 Aquarius in Tokyo, 16 Aquarius in Perth, 11 Pisces in Melbourne, 17 Pisces in Brisbane, 5 Aries in Wellington, and 14 Taurus rising on Maui.
So you can construct a rough chart for where you are in the world, I’ll give you the rounded up degree for each planet. Use the Ascendants given above to get a rough sense of what’s on the eastern horizon where you are, and using an Equal House system, you can see what’s going on in your part of the world for the next 2 weeks.
In this Full Moon with the Sun at 21 Cancer and the Moon at 21 Capricorn, Mercury is 30 Gemini, Venus is 23 Gemini, Mars is 24 Libra, Jupiter is 30 Cancer, Saturn is 17 Scorpio retrograde (same degree as its direct station), Uranus is 17 Aries (same degree as its retrograde station), Neptune is 8 Pisces retrograde, Pluto is 13 Capricorn retrograde, TransPluto is 1 Virgo, Chiron is 18 Pisces retrograde, and the NN is 25 Libra (same degree as the August 2012 Mars conjunct Saturn, AND the recent Aries-Libra Lunar Eclipse!)
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon in Cancer Pt. 1 – What’s Happening in July 2014, and The New Moon in Cancer Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means. You will recall these weeks have been about radical transformation, turning points, sacrifices, corrections, and the past feeding the future. Be appreciative for what’s been happening, even if you don’t feel like it. Remember that God Loves Gratitude.
Those around the world who will definitely feel effects of this Full Moon are the places where it falls near the angles of the chart. Places on our list where the Lunation is near the angles and activating energies powerfully are (Sun/Moon): Lisbon, London, Berlin, and Sofia (MC/IC), Trivandrum, Jakarta, and Hong Kong (Dsc/Asc), Wellington (IC/MC), and Santa Monica, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Washington DC (Asc/Dsc).
An Overview
An overview of this period ruled by this Full Moon shows it will illuminate our ability to integrate our personality in the social-emotional arena, where we will find a way to exercise our power within a group setup. This is a sensitive, adaptive, reorganizing Full Moon that is initiating, practical, and protective, even though there may be some rough patches due to the Lunation square Mars.
This is another threshold Lunation, where the Moon shows us what work we need to do to organize our energies as we prepare for the Jupiter in Leo era. Feelings will run high, and it’s a time to interact, swap information and feedback, and take a new look at whether we’re living the life we want to, or clinging to ideas of “success” which may not apply any more. Being honest with ourselves and others will be paramount in the next two weeks.
The Sun conjunct Jupiter will show us where our protection and nourishment is, while the Moon will show us how to organize our power and vision into a workable form. This is a Full Moon that promises a lot of activity, including some major adjustments in ideas, views, how plans are or are not working, all within a new standard of perfection or performance.
The coming weeks will be powerful in helping us embrace a more mature and organized way of being in the world, and open higher, broader, wider truths and possible futures through showing us what we’ve fulfilled in grand style. The powerful T square from Mars to the Lunation will actually be good in helping us move into the future, freed from the past. While it may involve a lot of action and little discussion, don’t be blunt or impulsive, and shape your mind in forms so they become containers for a future spiritual harvest.
With the Moon in Capricorn, find an appropriate pragmatic view of how to get in shape to do some sort of social or spiritual group work. Saturn shows the way within to power and a self-reliant cooperation between the material and spiritual energies in our lives, and many will begin to see a long term way of fulfilling their individual destiny. Purification leads to creative mutations, which in turn will open a renewal at the threshold of a new way of life.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
As with last month, the Grand Irrationality is NOT a factor in this Lunation, even though it lurks in the background and becomes active off and on during the month. If you’re wondering about this long term configuration, you can find more at Astrology in November-December 2013 - The Grand Irrationality Affecting Everyone and Astrology in late November and Early December 2013 – In the Heart of the Grand Irrationality. When you’re done here, please check out those articles to find the current seven “hot zone” spans. The next trigger will be as the planets transit 7-14 degrees of Leo.
As I’ve noted previously, Neptune has begun to pull apart from the exact septile to Pluto at this time, which is the main aspect anchoring the Grand Irrationality. Right now Neptune is 55 degrees and 14 minutes away from Pluto, which is a little too wide an orb to be in septile.
As I explained in a recent article, that just means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they are close to exact, and operate as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we’ll experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
So while the Grand Irrationality continues to be a general influence, it’s not as strong now as it will be in the Autumn and Winter, especially when Saturn re-enters the Scorpio zone. However, there is a Jupiter biseptile Uranus in play in this chart, showing we all have more critical “forks in the road of destiny” confronting us these next two weeks related to where these influence our charts.
Important Factors
This Lunation brings us a mixed bag of aspects. There are relatively few harmonious and frictional aspects, though the ones that are there are powerful. As noted, we have a Mars T-square to the Lunation, which is the most prominent aspect. This releases the powerful and harmonious energies created by Venus trine Mars.
The rest of the aspects are relatively minor, though we do have several quintile series aspects, showing very unique and specializing circumstances. I’ll go into the aspects in future articles, since there are too many specialized aspects to elaborate on here.
As usual with Mars in Libra now making its third pass through the end of the sign, don’t let things spin out of proportion. The Cardinal T-square requires that we be very balanced in extreme situations or when with extreme people. This is a time when we should be able to look back at rapids we’ve successfully navigated, with the provision to remember to continue to blunt unnecessary aggressive tendencies, be moderate and measured in your responses, and when appropriate, be a peacemaker.
Right now we’re finishing up paying karmic dues, repairing what can be repaired, keeping a sense of balance and proportion when things cannot be repaired, and finishing various forms of “reconstruction” in play since late 2010. Because Mars is now transiting the section of Libra where Saturn was in 2011-2012, we’re getting ways of using Mars to apply those lessons and “rules” we learned from Saturn, whether through a discipline or duty or responsibility, that we were dealing with in late 2011 through August 2012.
In the next two weeks, something related to then could become an irritant, or require action, or recalibration. Again, be moderate and compassionate in all responses, be balanced when it’s time to move into a greater or more elegant or refined archetypal role, and use what Saturn taught you then to concentrate on what matters now. This one quickens us, but in a strangely frictional way.
We all began to learn how to overcome fear in the Spring of 2012, and then entered an unknown space time sector where we began to learn to view much of what goes on at core through a sense of life being a “science experiment,” with our task to understand the laws that underlie what’s going on. We’re now able to use that knowledge to get a new perspective on what has affected us in the past, and can let go of nonessentials as we claim the enduring patterns and symbols of “the movie of our life.”
I’ll write more about these things in parts 2 and 3. The next two weeks will bring lessons in self-transformation toward a more effective destiny, or set of duties and disciplines. Continue to maintain balance as you clean up the residue of what has already fractured in your life. We entered a new era in late May, and are quickening as we stand on the threshold of the Jupiter in Leo era coming at us like an express train! Because everything is rolling forward into a new adventure in self-expression, face forward and move on up and out!
Jupiter will enter Leo at 3:30 am PDT, 11:30 am BST, on July 16. We’re now done with the Jupiter in Cancer year, and the next two weeks we’ll finish up elements of integrating our personality through the emotional intelligence we’ve cultivated since June 2013. Think of the coming two weeks as “productive sacrifices” as we move toward a new spontaneity of self-expression.
Jupiter has been in Cancer for all Lunations since last July. That shows we’ve been in a one year period where family and personal feelings have run strong. As this Lunation has Sun conjunct Jupiter in Cancer, be clear about what you’re feeling that feeds you, or nurtures your growth in some personal way.
We’ve all gone deeper into how we experience everything, and the past 8 months we’ve been given a new look at how we measure success, and figuring out how to “put on the show” and receive what we need from our audience. As the Sun is on the exact degree where Jupiter went stationary retrograde last Autumn, those issues of the last paragraph will be front and center over the next two weeks.
Jupiter’s entry into Leo kicks off a week of major events, including Venus entering Cancer just before the Sun square Mars on July 18-22 (T-square alert via Moon in Aries!), Saturn stationary direct on July 20-21, Uranus stationary retrograde July 20-22 at the Mercury opposed Pluto, and then Sun enters Leo on July 22, 2:41 pm PDT, 10:41 pm BST. So there’s a lot of action coming, culminating in some major heavy squares from early Leo to Mars in early Scorpio at the end of July and beginning of August which I’ll write about in a couple of weeks.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
This is the twelfth Full Moon where the Sun falls in the same sign to the Sun at the previous New Moon. We’re now back to the “normal” pattern we last experienced between September 2010 and June 2012. We’re now done with the “reversed pattern” we dealt with between June 2012 and August 2013, where the Full Moon Sun was in a different sign than the previous New Moon.
As I've explained in previous Full Moon articles,
... the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepares the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of Lunations works the opposite way....Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way Lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon....
So Sept 2010 through May 2012 we had the New Moon Sun in the same sign as the subsequent Full Moon Sun every month. This shifted in June 2012, when we had a New Moon at 1 Gemini in late May, a Full Moon at 15 Gemini-Sag in early June, and another New Moon at 29 Gemini in late June. That began the sequence of the New Moon Sun at the end of one sign, with the following Full Moon Sun in the next sign.
So June 2012 began the reversed experience from the “normal” New Moon-Full Moon cycle. We had an illuminated form shown to us at the Full Moon, followed by the Sun being in the same sign as the previous Full Moon. This is fulfillment followed by similar Solar seeds of potential while reversing the natural process.
That ended in August 2013, and we’re again in a sequence where the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun. To illustrate, the January 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Capricorn, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Aquarius. The February 10, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Aquarius, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Pisces.
Continuing through the Spring, the March 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Pisces, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 7 Aries. The April 10 New Moon Sun was at 21 Aries, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 6 Taurus. The May 9 New Moon Solar Eclipse was at 20 Taurus, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 5 Gemini. The June 8 New Moon was at 19 Gemini, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 3 Cancer.
This “reversed Sun sign” phenomenon ended then. In August 2013 we had a New Moon Sun at 15 Leo on August 6-7, and then the Full Moon Sun at 29 Leo. In September we had a New Moon Sun at 14 Virgo, and then we had a Full Moon Sun at 27 Virgo. In October we had a New Moon Sun at 12 Libra, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Libra.
In November, we had a New Moon Solar Eclipse Sun at 12 Scorpio, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Scorpio. In December, we had a New Moon at 11 Sagittarius, and then a Full Moon at 26 Sagittarius. In January 2014, we had a New Moon at 11 Capricorn, and a Full Moon Sun at 26 Capricorn.
The New Moon of late January had the Sun at 11 Aquarius, while the Full Moon Sun was at 27 Aquarius. The New Moon in late February/early March had the Sun at 11 Pisces, and Full Moon Sun is at 27 Pisces. The New Moon in late March had the Sun at 10 Aries, and the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse had the Sun at 26 Aries.
The recent New Moon Solar Eclipse in late April had the Sun at 9 Taurus, while the Sun at the Wesak Full Moon was 24 Taurus. The New Moon Sun was 8 Gemini, and the Full Moon Sun is at 23 Gemini. The New Moon two weeks ago had the Sun at 6 Cancer, and this Full Moon Sun is at 21 Cancer. So this continues the pattern of the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, offering us seeds shown in the first half, fulfillment in the second half.
The next two weeks require being straightforward and honest, without irritation or impulsiveness. Re-shape your mind and its expectancies, since you will be “seeing through life and death processes,” and can come to a more mature and honest way of viewing what is, and communicating your sense of things.
In parts two and three, we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.

This may be quite interesting for Australia, most of you internationally are hearing how our Leaders are and may not be aware just how much upheaval and protests are occurring down here recently. The sun at this full moon is conjunct the sun of our state premier (like the Governor in the USA) and Saturn is conjunct the sun of our Prime Minister, accountability/responsibility/ethics will of course be highlighted and although it would take a miracle, I would love to see this help these 2 main people at the head of the issues, to make a turn around and begin making choices with a better attitude, for the sake of our homeland.

of course I acknowledge it is able to go the other way and that will not be pretty even though the protests to date have remained relatively violence free, I am hoping for the best at this point and using my thought to help nourish the good potential.

Thank you for your loving guidance, as ever, Robert.

Hi Robert, Thank you for the info. If one's MC is at 19 Cancer, would that point to some sort of shake up with this full moon/change of direction? So much has been falling away. I certainly feel as if I've been on the 'wrong' track for a while, but I've learnt a tremendous amount from it.
Hi Debbie, Is that Mr. Newman you're referring to? I'm with your sentiments. I certainly don't feel as I live in "Australia" any more, and a turn around would be a mighty blessing. It's a bit like wanting a nightmare to be over and done with.

Thank you Robert.I have to remember gratitude. With the moon hitting my IC and opposite exactly my mid heaven. I'm nervous anxious & stressed. Trying not to lose my mind here. And jupiter is ready to hit leo 10th house my sun & my natal Jupiter. I'm in for big time drama to hit. I really don't want all THAT. But I'll deal with it best I can. After almost a year of nothing too bad except last October, things started to really get to me last month. Grand cross took forever to hit my libra ascendant but since June it's been worry, regrets, & depression. I really want happiness, peace &love. Gratitude.

Hi Ann, yes it is a bit like "we arent in Kansas any more Toto" for sure, actually I am in WA it is Mr Barnett, very similar in attitude/choices to the current Prime Minister. Yet I do hope so very much that they may have a wake up call and use their positions to help make some good changes now.
