Mars leaves its home sign of Scorpio and enters Sagittarius on Saturday, Sept 13, at 2:57 pm PDT, 10:57 pm BST. This marks the third of four important stops Mars makes in 2014, and promises that much that has moved slowly will begin to flame on!
Mars entering Sagittarius means it will again be more Fiery than Watery, a major development. Now that it’s left its home sign of Scorpio, it is disposited by Jupiter in Leo, again reinforcing the Fire quality. This should warm things up and bring inspiration and imagination to the forefront!
As it moves through Sagittarius, by late September it will begin a Grand Fire Trine with Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Aries that will last through the entire first half of October! As Venus will be in her home sign of Libra, she will become Mars’ dispositor through the chain of dispositors formed then. The very favorable combination of Fire and Air should make things very upbeat! I’ll write more about that down the road.
Mars in Sag will help us break free from any tendencies to get discouraged, since there will always be another way to imagine something! And though it’s square Neptune over this next week, Venus is making a very favorable set of aspects to both Mars and Saturn through the end of the month, so really Mars is essentially unafflicted. That alone should help us use energies to excellent effect.
Earlier I mentioned this being the third of four important stops Mars will make this year. The first was Mars in Libra for the first half of the year, which was important for countless reasons. Articles in the archives.
The second stop of Mars in Scorpio from late July to now was important because a) Mars was in its home sign and therefore the final dispositor for itself, Saturn, and Uranus, and b) Mars conjuncted Saturn at 18 Scorpio, initiating a new 2 year cycle of these energies.
The August 2014 conjunction in Scorpio ended the one that began August 2012 at 25 Libra, which means the cycle we’re in now will be much more powerful and concentrated (Scorpio). To note, it is rare that there is more than one Mars conjunct Saturn in a given sign. The last two conjunctions were at 1 Libra in July 2010 and 25 Libra in August 2012. So we’ve known 4 years of Mars expressing Saturn’s exaltation sign, which means Saturn was the dominant planet. That has now changed.
Because Mars was in its home sign of Scorpio when it conjuncted Saturn, these next two years it will be the more powerful of the energies driving the ripples to come associated with the conjunction. In Libra, Mars is as far from itself (Aries) as it can get. Saturn’s structuring power was the dominant feature in Libra. In Scorpio, Mars is a very strong driver which expresses something of what Saturn is eliminating, concentrating, and/or regenerating.
The conjunction of Mars and Saturn in Scorpio is a fairly rare event. It hasn’t happened since February 14, 1984, at 17 Scorpio. Due to Mars RX that year, Mars went direct at 12 Scorpio in June 1984, but Saturn was RX at 11 Scorpio, frustrating the conjunction. Before that, we have to go all the way back to January 1, 1954, at 8 Scorpio.
Mars in Sagittarius is the third important stop this year, due to the Grand Fire Trine. That will powerfully harmonize, stabilize, and express the larger Jupiter trine Uranus energies, which favors expansion, enthusiasm, innovation, dancing, authentic self-expression, and knowing “where your heart’s at.” That way we’ll get clear about knowing who or what to say no to, and who or what to say yes to.
This transit of Sag by Mars “primes the pump” for the next time it transits this sign 2 years from now and conjuncts Saturn at 10 Sagittarius in August 2016.
The fourth stop this year begins October 26 when Mars enters its exaltation sign of Capricorn just a few hours after Mercury goes stationary direct at 17 Libra. That transit is important because a) Mars will conjunct Pluto at 12 Capricorn, setting a new cycle into motion, and b) that conjunction will trigger the Grand Irrationality in a huge way. I’ll write more about that in November.
Anyway, for today, say goodbye to Mars in Scorpio and hello to Mars in Sagittarius. Time to get on the horse and ride the grand adventure!!

Hi Robert, great stuff as usual thank you!
Question for you in this respect... can you speak a little bit about how this transit is related to the upcoming Saturn in Sag transit, and the conjunction two years hence that you refer to. I find it interesting that this Mars transit completes before Saturn enters Sag. later in the year.
Best,
JP

About this new cycle setting into motion and triggering the Grand Irrationality in a huge way... will this be as bad as it was back in 2011? I'd like to get on that horse and run away until it's over! :-)

Mars in Scorp has been great for me, deep and penetrating, relentless. But I can really feel the shift and am excited and grateful to rise out of the depths, get on a horse and ride off on a quest! Mars in Scorpio was intense, and I definitely brought up some treasure, but the sunlight and open fields are looking good after all this time in the underworld.
