We have a Solar Eclipse coming soon! As I've told you before, no eclipse of itself is "bad," nor do we have anything to fear. We cannot lose what belongs to us; but there are good times to clear out the old to make space for the new that is not yet here.
There is a lot of superstition about Eclipses, mostly focusing on "dreadful" or difficult elements that often seem to accompany them. However, while all eclipses take something away and/or shut something down, an Eclipse can have beneficial effects if we just know "when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, when to walk away, and when to run."
Eclipses are both dreaded and misunderstood recurring phenomena. Solar Eclipse effects usually last for several years, while Lunar Eclipse effects usually last for a few months. And not all eclipses are equal in strength or duration, making some stronger and longer than others.
This Total Solar Eclipse happens on March 20, 2:36 am PDT, 5:36 am EDT and 9:36 am Greenwich (GMT). It will last 4 hours and 9 minutes, showing an influence lasting well over 4 years!
Today we'll discuss a lot about eclipses in general and a little about this one. In following articles I'll elaborate on the astrophysics of the phenomenon, who is most affected by this Eclipse, symbols, aspects, patterns, and what we can expect from this Total Solar Eclipse at 30 Pisces.
I've composed quite a few articles on past eclipses in the archives that bear re-visiting, since the Solar Eclipses of 2012, 2013. And 2014 are still manifesting results, if traditional Eclipse lore is to be believed. Links to Solar Eclipses from 2011 to now are at the bottom of this article.
Also, here's another important article explaining even more about what effects we can expect to result from Lunar and Solar Eclipses. For your reconsideration, The Solar and Lunar Eclipse - Is Any Eclipse Destined to Have Bad Effects?
To whet your appetites, here is a bit from the article:
There is a lot of fear and trepidation connected to Eclipses, an unfortunate leftover from previous centuries when Eclipses were believed to augur the fall of empires, dynasties, and powerful people anywhere the Eclipse shadow fell. While Eclipses do tend to shut down some elements in the area of life (house) in which they fall, this is not necessarily a bad thing, since we must bring some things to an end if we are to embrace newer, better ways of doing our Being. While the future effects of an Eclipse may be powerful, in that they last over a long period, they are not necessarily bad.No Astrological event need be "bad," or have "evil" effects, regardless of whether we're using Vedic, Chinese, Western, or any other approach to defining "All-That-Is" within a precise system of space-time factors. Though a circumstance may seem to have "bad" omens for the future, we can always transcend any negativity and turn the future to beneficent possibilities. No matter where an Eclipse falls, we can turn it to good.
Here it is important to remember Astrology is NOT a "predictive" art, in the usual way this is understood. The craft is less deterministic than most believe, including we professional Astrologers who seem to be able to "hit the mark" regarding future manifestations.
Pattern is everything, and time is a continuum. By knowing the past and present, we can often extrapolate the future. But we can never know how a being will respond to any given life challenge, whether pleasant or painful. Each has their ability to respond as they choose in the moment.
This directly related to the concept that each planet has a duality of function. It is up to us to determine whether the Moon, Sun, Mercury or any other planet involved in eclipses, "bad" aspects, configurations and other phenomena manifests productively or non-productively.
To remind you, a square can be more productive than a trine, and an opposition can produce awareness. Polarization is only a problem on the ego level. Seen from a higher angle, oppositions are necessary for us to acquire objectivity and the ability to encompass duality within a higher view.
By all means, check out the entire article, since I explained how past eclipses affected my chart, and gave examples of the good that can come after an eclipse removes old patterns. This Total Solar Eclipse in Pisces over time will show us the end of an old dream, and the beginning of a new one. It will show us how to “sound the tone” that will create a new life and a new world wherever it falls in our charts.
Due to a peculiar mix of aspects, this Eclipse ushers in a period of productivity and clear understanding, even if the clarity depends on how well you’re able to maneuver through a dream scape. There’s a LOT of Pisces energy in play for the next 4+ years! Those who dream well will find their “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” and an optimism in action that proves our qualifications and expresses our Soul.
Remember, this Eclipse falls at 30 Pisces, the degree of Archetypalization. Each year I give you an article about the importance of 30 Pisces as the Sun enters that degree on its way to the Equinox. That begins this Thursday, but if you want a head start in “dreaming the future” during that time, when you’re done here please go to the archives for 19 March 2014 where you’ll find it.
Whatever is shut down by this Solar Eclipse creates a space for a new universal awareness and compassion, a great potential to find wisdom that will heal us and/or help us heal others, and a more natural form of enjoyable self-expression. This one helps us fit things into a much larger perspective, and experience parts of the universal human condition so that we may know that we are as surrounded by Life and Love as a fish is by water.
All Eclipses radically transform areas affected by the planetary positions, so look to where you have 30 Pisces to see what will be shut down. That life area will yield a new way of looking at everything associated with the Pisces sector of our lives. With Jupiter and Neptune as the rulers of the Eclipse, we all will quicken and become stronger spiritually, dumping unnecessary considerations as we spur ourselves to a more natural and honest heart-felt Soul expression.
Though there are always endings associated with any Eclipse, these open the space we need to align with Spirit in natural and productive ways. Take a new look to see what really matters and what you do and do not want to bring with you into the new world you're already living.
We've all blasted off into new realms in the past few years, and now are moving into a time of stabilizing our long term life, love, and inspiration. This Eclipse continues to help us get clear about what’s ended and why, helping us to a greater compassion and forgiveness for ourselves and others. We can now surrender to the greater flow, and let go of many things that pushed and pulled us in the past. It’s time to “let go, let G_d!”

Robert, you say that the eclipse affects everyone different, depending on where this falls in our chart. How do we find that out?

Hello Robert,
What if Eclipse conjunct progressed planet? I understand that Eclipse means shutting things down, and progressed planets "bring future". Thank You

Hi Norm - You find that out by seeing where the Eclipse falls in the natal house, as well as the solar house. Because this one falls at 30 Pisces, the very end of the sign, it means that for Pisces Sun and Asc, it's in the first. For Aries Sun and Asc, it's in the twelfth. For Taurus Sun and Asc, it's in the 11th. For Gemini, the 10th, Cancer the 9th, Leo the 8th, and so on around the zodiac.
Hi Nana - A prog planet is not "future" per se. It is where your natal planet patterns got modified over time. So an eclipse on a prog planet takes something away from that prog planetary "state of expression." It doesn't necessarily take the expression away, but it takes away something from the expression that is no longer needed in life.
An example of this is that a philanthropist might decide to begin funding something other than what they were funding. Or someone learning about climate change or environmental protection may shift their focus, redirecting from an old set of actions and embracing some other actions. Or we may not stay rigidly focused on one form of expressing a skill, and might modify and enhance it by learning another way to apply that skill.

Thank you, Robert -
Your 19 March 2014 essay is beautiful, and so absolutely timely.
Having the eclipse on the Omega point seems portentous to say the least … and in the very best way. Perhaps many of the thoughtforms & dogmas that have encrusted humanity for these last couple of millennia will be shattered in some irrevocable way this Friday, perhaps far beneath the mainstream radar … and seeds and seeds and seeds of new life will sprout everywhere through the cracks of the old.
If we can keep this up, focusing and attuning our siddhis of manifestation, someday (soon? how big do we dare to dream ourselves?) we'll be living on a garden planet once again :)
Happy St Paddy's Day to All :)

Thank you for all your work. It's very informative and inspiring. Which system do you actually use? With Placidus, my Cancer Ascendent gives me the 10th house at that degree (:re your reply above). Eclipse is conjunct North Node.

Hello. i found you incidentally trying to unearth info about Grant lewi, my greatest teacher since 1969 when I was introduced to his books at age 21. I see you are quite busy. I just retired from a long practice as a psychotherapist, 35 years, wherein Grant helped a great many people through my sharing of his works. Is it possible to have a bit of a dialogue with you? You are a last link to a disappearing treasure of genius, so little known or appreciated. Thank you,

Your Highness, still confused.... About the houses...do we look at our ascendent or at our sun for placement of the eclipse effects. 12th house or 8-9th house for Leo sun? Plus its on my Aries north node of 0
