This Solar Eclipse will have a very beneficial stabilizing effect for a very long time. All eclipses shut something down, taking away elements of our lives no longer true for us. Over the next 4+ years many will go through endings while finding forms of deeper and wider compassion and connectedness with people and experience.
Pisces is the sign of endings, sorrow, rewards, the collective atmosphere, both conscious and unconscious, as well as the universal feelings that all humans have shared for all time. It is how Virgo externalizes. So old motives, old memories and struggles that frustrated us, and old feelings of being stuck in a past time or condition will end, with the void sure to attract new forms of these.
Because this Eclipse lasts 4 hours and 9 minutes from start to finish, it’s of extremely long duration, so will have an impact for about 4 years and 2 months. Thus it will have effects for a long time to come, so it’s good that we have several productive and harmonizing aspects in play at the Eclipse.
Here we open to seeing what has been and what is with new “eyes of compassion,” and can bless and forgive much as we envision new ways of living, feeling, and relating to our human-ness. Whatever is cleared out will create a void that is sure to attract new forms of Pisces energy as the old ones get cleared out.
Look to the house where this Lunation falls to see what area of your life will be impacted, just as the houses where past Solar Eclipses fell have already been shutting down obsolete patterns since then. This one will take something away, leaving a void that will attract something appropriate to who you are becoming.
So What’s Happening Where?
This Total Solar Eclipse happens on March 20, 2:36 am PDT, 5:36 am EDT, and 9:36 am GMT. This flowing, distributive, productive, stabilizing, and destiny-clarifying Solar Eclipse will be strongest where it falls near one of the angles in locations around the world.
We see the Eclipse on the nadir in Vancouver and Alaska, and rising in all of eastern South America. It is on the midheaven for all of Europe and Africa that are east of Spain and Morocco, and setting in all of east Asia and western Oz.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and Earth. The Moon blocks the light from the Sun and casts a shadow on Earth. In eclipse lore, where the Eclipse is visible will be where the greatest effects can be expected, lasting the number of years that the eclipse is long in hours.
Past Eclipses As Prologue To Our Present and Future
As I've mentioned in previous articles, we had 4 Solar Eclipses in 2011, which is a very rare occurrence. The January 2011 Eclipse was visible in Europe and the major cities of the Middle East. Perhaps that Eclipse had some correlations with the "Arab Spring" revolutions spreading throughout that region.
The Solar Eclipse of January 2011 lasted 4 hours and 20 minutes, which also makes it a player in the events of 2012-2013-2014-2015, since it's been active for 4 years and 4 months. That influence is just about over. As noted, the June 2011 Gemini Eclipse was very long, bright, and powerful, while the July 2011 Cancer Eclipse was short and weak, and its influence only lasted through the end of 2012.
The November 2011 Sagittarius Eclipse was very bright, and will be in effect for almost 4 years. So besides the usual transits and Lunations, planetary stations and conjunctions to the outer transformational planets, we also have Eclipses as long wave influences still be in play years after the event!
The June 2011 Eclipse was visible in Northern Canada, Iceland, Greenland, and Norway. The July 2011 Eclipse was visible only in a small area between Antarctica and South Africa, so was seen by no one. The November 2011 Eclipse was visible in South Africa, Antarctica, and New Zealand.
The May 2012 Eclipse was visible from S. China and Japan through the Northern Pacific and Aleutian Islands down to S. Oregon and N. California, central Nevada, southern Utah, northern Arizona, New Mexico (Albuquerque!), and the Texas Panhandle. The November 2012 Total Solar Eclipse was partial across a large area of the South Pacific (including Australia and New Zealand), southern South America, and part of Antarctica. The only place it was total was on the east coast of Queensland, Australia.
The May 2013 Annular Solar Eclipse at 20 Taurus will be in effect for 3 years and 9 months, putting its influence through early 2017. That one was visible in Australia, Indonesia, Oceania and much of the central the Pacific Ocean. The November 2013 Hybrid Solar Eclipse at 12 Scorpio will be in effect for about 3 years and 4 months. That one was visible within a thin corridor, which traverses the North Atlantic and equatorial Africa. A partial eclipse was seen in eastern North America, northern South America, southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
As an aside, of some note is that the Solar Eclipse at 12 Scorpio fell during Diwali, a great sacred Festival of Light celebrating the victory of good over evil through the Grace of Lakshmi, one of the Forms of Divine Mother. I suppose whatever is associated with that Eclipse that has been or is yet to be taken away, will be a form of Grace that blesses us.
What Does NASA Have To Say About This Eclipse?
I’ve been using information from the NASA Solar Eclipse site for many years. In the past, they included a bunch of information about each eclipse, but since the last Solar eclipse have changed what’s on their site.
This page gives all the technical information about the eclipse, and this Eclipse map page gives even more links to all kinds of information about this Total Solar Eclipse.
So this eclipse will be visible in Iceland, Europe, North Africa, and North Asia, with the Eclipse visible in its totality in the far north Atlantic, the Norwegian Sea, Svalbard, and the Faroe islands. You can find more by going to the NASA site.
More On the Influence of Eclipses
Besides the factor of where the shadow falls, in Astrology Eclipses are said to be most powerful when they conjunct the Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or Midheaven of a birth chart. When this happens it always brings endings related to the planets and sectors involved, but these can be of great benefit in clearing away old life factors that have no place in our future. As it was once sung, "something's lost and something's gained in living every day..."
Of course, besides these past echoes and the usual general effects, the Eclipse will also bring losses and endings where it falls in our individual birth charts. In an example I offered in the article explaining Solar Eclipses in general of how a loss can work to great benefit, if it conjuncts the Saturn in a birth chart, it can indicate the ending of old, lesser responsibilities, limitations, or fears, and open the being to a greater sense of purpose. If it conjuncts Jupiter, then it could show the ending of an old philosophy or belief system and open the gates to something far greater.
Given a Solar Eclipse is a New Moon, then like all Lunations that work their influence over time, it triggers events related to previous celestial events, and is triggered by subsequent transits to those points. Thus we can assume this Eclipse will set developments into motion related to the numerous conjunctions and stationary points made by Jupiter and Uranus between Spring of 2010 and January 2011 near this Eclipse degree.
It will also have some resonance with events subsequent to the Venus conjunction with Mars at 30 Pisces in April 2009. Coupled with the Jupiter and Uranus events, this one will reach 6 years into the past to finish some things forever, and be directly aligned with the grand endings and awakenings of 2010.
We also should get important insights about how it fits into our life narrative on March 30-31, 2015 when Mercury crosses the Eclipse degree. In the distant future, this Eclipse will also have a direct relationship with what presents itself in the Spring of 2022 when Jupiter crosses 30 Pisces, and again when it goes stationary direct at 29 Pisces in November 2022. So Jupiter will expand or bring blessings from the endings to come in November-December 2022.
In the more distant future, Neptune will be near this degree between the Summer of 2023 and early 2026, with a special focus in May 2025, September 2025, and February 2026 when Saturn next transits 30 Pisces. So this Solar Eclipse will activate things related back to 2009, and be triggered several times between 2022-2026.
This Eclipse and these transits are opportunities to understand our power to open to a larger collective experience and deeper relationships in some way, to move into a deeper and broader life and experience, and “let go, let G_d” by forgiving much. As it falls at the last degree of the 360 stages of experience, it’s truly “the end of the end” where everything comes together in a vast dreamscape thoughtform, and we have the power to dream the future into reality. Just remember the law of unintended consequences, and be clear about what you want to see made manifest with an eye that something must be blessed and released to create the space for the future to become real.
Pisces, a sign ruled by Jupiter and Neptune, teaches us that all humans share a common feeling experience, and that we are all feeling what all have felt through all time. In Pisces we experience that each of us walks our own way as we feel we need to, even though that way may have been trod by countless other Souls since the beginning of time.
In the next part of the series, we'll explore how this Eclipse will manifest and its astrological components, including Sabian Symbols, which signs will be most affected, and more on the mixed energies at work in this Total Solar Eclipse. Due to the very bright magnitude and length, this one will be long and bright, even if we do need to “let go, let G_d!”

Robert,
This eclipse @ 30 deg Pisces Falls in my SR 10th house of Career and has Chiron the Moon and Neptune. My job of 27 yes with CTL is ending soon. The eclipse effect lasts 4+ yrs. Any insight is much appreciated here!
Blessings, Love and Peace

Thank you for your articles, Robert! Could you give any insight on how an eclipse of August 11, 1999, which you called "very interesting" and "powerful" in an article of yours might be connected with the March 20, 2015 eclipse? It, indeed, had a cross of major planets, and it looks it must have been influential for many years to come. For example, the August 1999 eclipse had Uranus in 15 Aquarius (opposing Sun/Moon in mid-Leo, and squaring Saturn/Mars in mid-Tau/mid-Scorpio respectively), and in an individual chart it fell in a certain house. Then, say, during the May 9-10 2013 Taurus eclipse asteroid Juno is found in about that same degree, AND, for example, an Ascendant at a certain location in the world is found in that same degree for the current eclipse. Could you provide some guidelines on how energies of those eclipses can connect, steering one's life on the destiny's road, involving the planets touching the degrees where major planets were in a previous eclipse? I'm concerned primarily with the link between August 11, 1999, and today's/yesterday's eclipse. Also, can one regard an Ascendant for the location on where the eclipse is happening as a "local focal point" ? For example, if an Ascendant of an eclipse, at a certain location, is conjunct a planet/angle/point in a natal chart - can this be regarded as a "subsidiary branch" influence coming from the main eclipse, in an individual's life? Sorry if there are two many questions, just one more: how different, if at all, an influence of an eclipse would be if it happens in pre-Saturn return/post-Saturn return in one's life? As we look back on our lives, we might discern the patterns in play that started far earlier than 5-6 years ago. Thank you!

Hi dcu - You're most welcome.
Hi Nancy - I guess you'll be doing something else in the public/professional sector within the next 48 months!
Hi Olga - What you want would take several full classes to explore! The 1999 Eclipse affected the entire world for a few years, and of course subsequent transits could resonate with some of what happened then. But unless it's within the time span of the Eclipse effects, then it will be more of an echo than a direct line of A = B. I have the outline for a major work on Eclipses and how the various ones relate to each other (and don't) but again, that's an entire book.
As for the link between 1999 and 2015, since the 1999 effects are long done (except for the detritus of the Iraq/Afghan wars) then any parallel transits mean only what they mean at the present time. While the Asc for an eclipse location might be the same as in one's chart, there's no way there's any direct correlation unless you and the location have some sort of nexus. IOW, while the Asc for Moscow may contact something in my chart, unless I have a real world connection with Moscow, then it's a pure co-incidence with similar but unrelated meanings.
As for pre and post Saturn returns, that is unrelated, unless the eclipse directly correlates to something in the chart that is affected by the Saturn return.

How important are planetary aspects to the solar eclipse?
The eclipse of Sept. 13 has Chiron opposite the eclipse. Does this suggest a painful experience for someone who has the eclipse contacting an important point in the natal chart? Or could the eclipse still express well, as they sometimes do, bringing new and exciting experiences into one's life?

Hi melissa - Very important. But an opposition may or may not bring a painful experience. It will challenge your Higher Self to come forth, or you will come to a realization that something must be healed in your inner or outer life. Eclipses always shut things down, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing.
