43 years ago today, Title IX was signed into law in the US. That allowed equal rights for women to compete in college sports and ended gender discrimination in education, changing the world forever.
From Wiki, Title IX was part of the Equal Opportunity in Education Act that states "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity." It started with LBJ, and was introduced by Senator Birch Bayh of Indiana. From there women secured a bunch of civil and legal rights they hadn't had before then.
So here's a "tip of the hat" to the politicians who did the right thing a long time ago! Now if only we could get our present day politicians to do the right thing by us all....

That would be in 1972 that it was signed into law. I graduated 1978 from high school and saw the disparity between the gender sports. So much was spent on football for the boys, nothing spent on say, softball (my sport of choice)at the time. Since then I have seen the 'playing field' improve with womens' softball exploding into a "real" sport, just like the guys. The current generation do not understand what the difference was. Yes, thanks to those politicians at the time.
