This distributive, inspired, and freeing “Christfest” Full Moon opening the world to a new form of Wisdom Teaching occurs at 9:19 am PDT, 5:19 pm BST June 2, and falls at the 12th degree of Gemini and Sagittarius. It is the third of the “Three High Moons” of the Northern Hemispheric Spring. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus through understanding the available power, and renew your life!
The importance of the Christ Fest Full Moon is explained in greater detail in the article Spiritual Astrology – the Three High Moons of the Northern Hemisphere Spring. Briefly, the Life Force of Earth re-emerges at the Full Moon of Aries-Libra, and this Life Force is expressed as a form of “Buddha Wisdom” of some compassionate form that helps us all to end suffering. This Wisdom is then shaped into a form of expression by the World Teacher at this Full Moon of Gemini-Sagittarius, and expressed the “world teaching” for the next year.
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
We’ve now entered many months where the Full Moon Sun is not the same as the Sun sign of the previous New Moon. I’ll explain the importance of this later in this article. Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon in Taurus Pt. 1 - What’s Happening in May-June 2015 as well as The New Moon in Taurus Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means.
An Overview
This “World Teacher” Full Moon brings forth Wisdom that expresses something eternal about the relationship of mind to Life. This chart shows a very strong favorable Grand Fire Trine of Moon in Sag, Jupiter in Leo, and Uranus in Aries, which should brighten things up considerably! With the Gemini Air so strong, we should see lots of great ideas and connections, with a lot of very productive activity even if some things are melting down.
This Full Moon offers us techniques of ideological and life transformation, where we can see what we’ve let go of since 2011 and why, or what parts of the past still need to be released. Overall, a very productive Full Moon! This one will move the healing energy we’ve been dealing with since the New Moon and find simple, natural forms of expressing higher truths and visions.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
The Grand Irrationality, along with the other non-rational configurations that happen off and on, indicate that we’ve been living in an era of very heavy decisions determining the future destiny of humanity since 1993. For those who don’t remember, the Grand Irrationality is a long wave configuration set into motion every time a planet makes a conjunction, septile, biseptile, or triseptile to Neptune and Pluto. Septile series aspects show us points in time when our future destiny is precipitated by critical choices made in the present.
Recent lunations brought the Grand Irrationality front and center in global and individual affairs through Jupiter going stationary direct in triseptile to both Neptune and Pluto. That implies recent weeks have shown humanity at critical forks in the road of destiny wherever this configuration is active in national and individual charts. It’s been activated any time any of the transiting planets moved through the seven affected zones.
This has been part of the “Buddha Wisdom” coming forth as the core of a new world teaching for this year. So I guess it’s safe to say the rest of this year will be extremely important in terms of hitting forks in the road of destiny!
Because this configuration involves Neptune and Pluto, the outermost spiritual planets, they show a long wave evolutionary crisis for the entire human race. Since 1993, at one point or another, everyone on Earth has experienced a nonstop energy of having to choose, at the bottom of our beings, the path to evolution or devolution, progress or regress, love or fear, joy or control. It’s why things have been so weird, irrational, and hard-edged.
At this time, the current seven “hot zone” spans that trigger the Grand Irrationality are approximately 11-15 Leo, 2-6 Libra, 23-27 Scorpio, 14-18 Capricorn, 6-10 Pisces, 27 Aries- 1 Taurus, and 19-23 Gemini.
We’re now moving out of the time of the year when Neptune has been in close septile to Pluto, which is the main aspect anchoring the Grand Irrationality. Right now Neptune is 54 degrees and 45 minutes away from Pluto, so they’re a bit wide to be in septile.
At this time, the Grand Irrationality gains strength as we move through Autumn and Winter, and will again lessen in strength in the late Winter into the Spring and Summer. As I’ve explained in other articles, that means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they operate as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
Important Factors
This Lunation brings us a mixed bag of forming aspects which I’ll discuss in parts 2 & 3. Besides the Grand Fire Trine also making an “opposition-sextile-trine” configuration, we also have the Sun conjunct Mars with Moon opposed, adding fuel to the opposition!
Other aspects include Moon sesquisquare Venus, Mercury septile Venus, quintile Jupiter, and semisquare Uranus, Venus semisquare Mars and trine Saturn (out of sign), Sun sextile Jupiter, and Mars sextile both Jupiter and Uranus.
Moving into the social-transpersonal level of life, we have Jupiter biseptile Saturn and trine Uranus, an exact Saturn semisquare Pluto (bringing a sharp edged quality to the atmosphere), and Uranus novile Neptune. The semisquare indicates why there are some serious eruptions and collisions of forces active in our world today.
What is the Jones Pattern of this Lunation
This Lunation, along with the inner planets, have been in the span the begins with Saturn in Sagittarius, runs through Uranus in Aries, and ends at Jupiter in Leo. The empty span between Leo and Sagittarius creates what is called a “Locomotive” Jones pattern.
We’re now done with the long run of some combination of “Locomotive” and “Bucket” Jones patterns. Now that the inner planets are moving to fill the gap between Uranus in Aries and Jupiter in Leo, we are leaving the previous combination of patterns, and will confront several dramatic changes in future months as the planets move between “Locomotive,” “Splay,” and “Splash” chart patterns
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Mercury in Gemini through Venus in Cancer) is 49+ degrees, and includes only two signs. This month we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs, but in a very widespread distribution. As mentioned, we’re now back in a “Locomotive” pattern, defined by planets between Saturn in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Leo, with a void in the empty third between Leo and Sagittarius.
So What is a “Locomotive Pattern” and how does it work?
This type of spread, with all the planets occupying 2/3 of the signs with an empty third, creates an imbalance that leads to power if we can find the compensatory “weight” to make things move forward smoothly rather than rock side to side creating friction. Target what is needed, and provide compensatory energies accordingly.
As Marc Jones put it, “this type of horoscope reveals a balance of this sort in the life. A third part of things… consisting of a free span in experience, is set against a two-thirds part, embracing a related but limited span in experience…. The basis of the dynamic is found in the native’s resulting strong sense of a lack or a need, of a problem to be solved, a task to be achieved in the social and intellectual world around him.”
Dr. Jones states “The temperament reveals a self-driving individuality, an executive eccentricity that is not … unbalance but rather is power. It exhibits a dynamic and exceptionally practical capacity which is neither the broad universality of the Splash pattern, nor the special obsession with some particularly narrowed aspect of experience characteristic of the Bundle people.
He goes on to state “The Locomotive classification is … moved more by external factors in the environment than by aspects of its own character. The point of application for the powers of the self is shown … by the “leading planet,” or the one of the two in the empty trine which forms its aspect clockwise in the zodiac, irrespective of any distinction as “applying” or “separating.”
Saturn is the leading planet in the Locomotive. Take the humor, vision, and heart strengths you cultivated when Jupiter was the leading planet, and find more mature and structured ways of expressing these virtues. We can use the Jupiterian joy and enthusiasm we’ve experienced and now express that in forms of Sagittarian wisdom and understanding. Because the leading and closing edge of the Locomotive are both in Fire signs, keep opening your hearts to the joyous song of life! Be light, see light, live light, express light!
As the Locomotive keeps things out of balance, Saturn is now the front end to finding the way of initiating activity that must be accompanied by a compensatory “weight” to keep things moving forward rather than sideways. The more we work with the imbalances that can lead us to visions of truth, “response-ability,” and “structured adventure,” the easier it will be to use Saturn’s energies skillfully.
As we open the span of experience with Saturn in Sagittarius, and close the span with Jupiter in Leo, it represents a structured openness to higher truths and mature humor that closes with the power of focused dramatic expression that can rouse others to a greater feeling-state. With Sagittarius opening the span, and Jupiter closing the span, we can lead with a sense of humor and end with honesty of genuine natural expression. Just keep in mind the wise words of the great wit Wavy Gravy that if you don’t have a sense of humor, it’s not funny!
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
After 19 Full Moons in another relationship, this is the fourth Full Moon where the Sun falls in a different sign than the Sun of the previous New Moon. We’ve now completed the “normal” pattern we last experienced between September 2010 and June 2012, and have begun the “reversed pattern” we last experienced between June 2012 and August 2013, where the Full Moon Sun was in a different sign than the previous New Moon.
As I've explained in previous Full Moon articles,
... the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepares the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of Lunations works the opposite way....Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way Lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon....
The last time we had the New Moon Sun in the sign previous to the next Full Moon Sun was June 2012. That began the reversed experience from the “normal” New Moon-Full Moon cycle. We had an illuminated form shown to us at the Full Moon, followed by the Sun being in the same sign as the previous Full Moon. This is fulfillment followed by similar Solar seeds of potential while reversing the natural process.
To illustrate, the January 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Capricorn, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Aquarius. The February 10, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Aquarius, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Pisces. This continued through the June 8 New Moon at 19 Gemini, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 3 Cancer.
This “reversed Sun sign” phenomenon ended then, and we went back to the “normal” sequence of Lunation Sun signs. In August 2013 we had a New Moon Sun at 15 Leo on August 6-7, and then the Full Moon Sun at 29 Leo. In September we had a New Moon Sun at 14 Virgo, and then we had a Full Moon Sun at 27 Virgo. In October we had a New Moon Sun at 12 Libra, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Libra.
This continued through all of 2014, with the New Moon Solar Eclipse in late April having the Sun at 9 Taurus and the subsequent Sun at the Wesak Full Moon was 24 Taurus. This continued through the Summer and Autumn, with the Partial Solar Eclipse New Moon in October at 1 Scorpio and the following Full Moon Sun was at 15 Scorpio. The late January 2015 New Moon was at 1 Aquarius, and the subsequent Full Moon Sun at 15 Aquarius.
The first New Moon in the new pattern had the Sun at 30 Aquarius, with the Full Moon Sun at 15 Pisces. The second New Moon was the Solar Eclipse at 30 Pisces, with the following Full Moon Sun at 15 Aries. This is the third in the sequences, with the New Moon Sun of two weeks ago at 29 Aries, and the Sun at this Full Moon at 14 Taurus.
So we’ve ended the pattern of the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, offering us seeds shown in the first half, fulfillment in the second half, and have begun a new order of things. Now we were offered seeds of the past light (Sun in Taurus) at the New Moon at 27 Taurus, and the future light (Sun in Gemini) is now the Sun sign at this following Full Moon.
Mercury Retrograde
Because Mercury retrograde in Gemini is the final dispositor for all the other planets in the chart except Neptune in its home sign of Pisces, if you haven’t already, you can find out a lot more about Mercury retrograde by getting a copy of the new expanded 2nd edition of my pioneering book A New Look At Mercury Retrograde. The first major work on Mercury retrograde ever written, it offers in-depth information about Mercury retrograde people, Mercury retrograde in the various signs and houses, and what the entire Mercury Retrograde phenomenon is about. If you want to know what we can expect from Mercury retrograde in Gemini, as well as all the other signs and houses, it’s all in there.
As I’ve told you, the great news is that it is again available as a paperback! Yes, we managed to get it published in time for this retrograde. The paperback is available through Createspace.com, so if you want the newest edition go there and order your copy. Of course, it’s also available as an ebook through Amazon Kindle or Barnes and Noble Nook. I've included links to both sites.
As I’ve mentioned before, it is written for both astrologers and laypeople. I have just about everything you could want to know about Mercury retrograde, including how it works, what it means, celebrities who have it in their charts, historic events that happened during Mercury retrograde, and what signs are involved in future Mercury retrograde periods.
By knowing more about 2014's Mercury retrograde periods in Pisces/Aquarius, Cancer/Gemini, and Scorpio/Libra, as well as 2015’s Mercury retrograde periods in Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra, you may see patterns in what was going on in your life, what you were taking a new look at and why, and how this "looking back" influenced your choices as you moved through past events.
Here's the link to where you can order your copy of the new edition of my ebook, A New Look at Mercury Retrograde to check out possible ways this Mercury retrograde effect could play out over the next 4 months. And here’s the Createspace link to the page where you can purchase a paperback edition of A New Look at Mercury Retrograde.
See you in the near future with parts two and three, where we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
