A while back I was asked these questions and others by a friend of the site. I gave a brief answer in that comment stream, but figured this could stand on its own as an article.
Obviously this cannot be an exhaustive treatise on the subject, since it would be impossibly long and probably boring to all but well-read philosophers who care about such deep and ponderous things. For those who really want to dive deep into a grand adventure exploring the mysteries of how life on Earth came to be, begin with the Secret Doctrine, since it covers “Cosmogenesis” and “Anthropogenesis.” That will keep your mind very busy for a few years!
Since commenting on what’s written there and in the other venerable sources on how all this came to be could take the rest of my life, today I’ll simply give you my answer to the questioner, with a little elaboration. They asked “Is there an end to this endless cycle..? The whole universe is in an endless cycle of creation and destruction... so where does all this end? And what is the meaning of this endless cycle?”
I wrote, for devas and angels, yes, there is “an end.” We are told in that evolutionary life scheme there is a "Pattern of Perfection" and once an angel or deva attains that “perfection” they are that forever. But for those of us on the "human" way, there is no end. It just keeps getting better and better as we experience ever-greater awareness and Oneness within Love-Bliss-Consciousness (Sat-Chit-Ananda).
To the degree we are not totally identified with our forever Loving, Wise, and Actively Intelligent Light Nature (Atma-Buddhi-Manas expressing Anupadaka or Monadic God Consciousness), we experience a sense of separateness and wonder what it's all about and where we're going in the midst of all of it. As we train the lower triad (personality) to be the perfect expression of our Higher Triad, we come out of perceiving time as a killer, and see time as the means by which we measure movement through experience. Time is the 4th dimensional bridge between perception of forms (3D) and holistic experiential awareness of the unified field of our experience (5D).
I suppose we can only accept the wisdom of the Vedas regarding when it ends. This is addressed by the concept of the Manvantara and Pralaya of God. When "God opens the eye" all of manifest creation springs forth (a "Big Bang?") When "God closes the eye" all of manifest creation ceases to exist and everyone takes a break (a “Black Hole?”)
From another point of view, a Black Hole might be a whole universe of infinite Light/Life, with our side of the “looking glass” appearing as a Black Hole to them. The observer and observed have entirely different experiences of their shared reality. Alternatively, it could be a situation where one God is sleeping while another God is awakening. We probably won’t know even a fraction of the truth of it until we’re on the other side, unbound from our perceptual and experiential limitations.
This is the system where life as we know it comes forth into manifestation and returns to apparent non-manifestation. However, throughout countless lifetimes we continue to evolve in countless ways. (Yes I know that it seems that some people refuse to do that, but eventually they do!) As “they” say, even a blind pig roots out a truffle sometimes.
When our consciousness has moved on to another evolutionary scheme on another frequency of existence, then our consciousness persists even if our previous universe is not manifest. While one universe sleeps, countless others rock on. And even if our universe sleeps, at the appointed time the eye of God opens, and we and countless others also awaken for the next trillion years or so.
The meaning? Growth in the awareness of the infinite glory and perfection of creation! What other meaning could there be? If God is all that IS, and we are part of all that IS, then we are becoming aware of the infinite and eternal Omnipotence, Omniscience, and Omnipresence of Consciousness Itself that we are never separate from, even for a moment.
That’s why I believe we might as well settle in, learn what we have to learn, have as much joy as we can while doing our Being, and BE the miracle of creation we are, always have been, and always will be. One of our main tasks here is to stop identifying with that which is created and destroyed, and remember you and me and we and they and all of us together are sparks of God in the body and mind of God grooving on an infinite growth pattern with a lot to love along the way. As a great Sage once sang, “I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.” And it’s all at the biggest Feast of Love we’ve never imagined!
Since it's the only game in town, we might as well learn the rules and have some fun playing. Once we master this game, there are other games we will learn to master in other solar systems in other galaxies in other universes.
Never a dull moment in the Cosmic (and personal) Creation!

A brillinat chat in this Cosmic Cantina that is part of this Universe that is part of all that IS. The fact that we can "chat" about these issues makes it obvious that there is light and love and will and we only need recognising it. Not simple, but that is why we have so many opportunities!
Thank you Robert.
Blessings be to all.

...And Jesus said to Oprah, when asked about world Peace...
"Wars would end in a heartbeat...if y'all would rub each others feet"
