This initiating, organizing, clarifying, transformational fellowship Full Moon at 4 Capricorn-Cancer will help us to find techniques of connecting with others in promising ways, and concentrate some of the promises of the recent Solstice. This one shows us how to capture what we believe we need, with intuitive clarity running very high and access to emotional intelligence there for us to receive.
At a Full Moon, that which has opened since the previous New Moon surfaces in a public form, and heads toward the culmination and fruition symbolized by the second half of any cycle. First half, birth into form and field. Second half, culmination and completion of the purpose of that cycle.
That’s why it’s important to regard the New and Full Moon charts as “God’s Footprints in Time,” since one follows the other in an unending sequence of births of newer and newer seeds. The New Moons show us the seeds that will flourish under the reflected light of the Full Moon.
Full Moons heighten feelings, due to the opposition of the Moon and the Sun. This particular Lunation has one other opposition, showing polarization is extremely strong on very deep seed levels over the next two weeks. Besides the Full Moon, the Moon also opposes Pluto, showing the axis of tension to be the same as the Lunation. The Sun sprouts the Plutonic seeds each year at their conjunction, and this one shows two weeks and a full season where “tender care” is the key phrase for everything.
Dispositors - What's the Backdrop to the Energies?
The Moon is in Cancer, making it a “standalone ruler” in its own sign, very much like Neptune in Pisces. That makes their trine very powerful, since it’s two rulers in the realms they rule in harmonic stability via the feeling function of water. This will make some things very clear about what’s moving forward and what’s not.
The Sun is in Capricorn, making Saturn in Sag its ruler in worldly affairs, and Uranus in Aries the ruler in spiritual matters. Saturn, ruler of the Sun, is in Sag, so its ruler is Jupiter in Virgo. Jupiter in Virgo is ruled by Mercury in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn. So this creates a “chain of dispositors” between Mercury, Saturn, and Jupiter, which serves as the backdrop blend of energies ruling those planets and Pluto.
The other “closed circuit” powerful self-reinforcing dispositor loop is shown by the mutual reception between Venus in Scorpio and Mars in Libra. This is not the most favorable of positions, and given the aspects between Venus, Mars, and the rest of the planets, it’s a mixed bag. You can find out more about dispositors in general, final dispositors, and mutual reception by going to Astrology Class – What Is A Dispositor and What Is Mutual Reception Between Two Planets?
Because Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn are such powerful influences, with two other standalones and one mutual reception, we’ll be dealing with 4 distinct energy circuits moving all the planetary energy. Many will be rewarded for their courage in past battles, while others will have to show their skill based in how they trained, and all will have to feel the wisdom in their body, and be willing to experience forms of “physical enlightenment.”
The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon
This Full Moon falls at 4 Capricorn-Cancer. It is said that the first third (decan) of any sign deals with the actional, physical, and material levels of life, and as the Lunation is in the first decan of those signs, invokes a sub-influence of Capricorn and Cancer.
Since the Moon always focuses the light of the Sun in specific forms, the degree symbols for both are important. The Sun degree is the illumination or enlightenment of the Lunation, whereas the Moon shows us the potential forms that enlightenment will take. Though I’ve given you a sense of what this is about up to now, here’s where we go into detail.
The Solar degree symbol for the 4th degree of Capricorn is "A Party entering a large canoe.” In the Jones class notes, Rudhyar says this is a degree of "Externalization through individuals of the collective urges of the race,” “Foolish love for pleasure,” and “Exploitation of self.”
In "The Astrological Mandala" he states the keynote is "the ability to use natural resources and basic skills in order to achieve a group-purpose.” He notes that key elements are “the start of a journey” by a “cohesive group of people” related to “a common enterprise which may be an answer to the need for a change of locality,” where a group may reveal “its homogeneity and common will” when it’s away from “its familiar habitat.”
He offers that this is a technique of how to do something in a group context, where “a common feeling-response to a specific situation may be implied.” The emphasis is on “group activity in circumstances implying a need for change.” He says this degree falls in the Span of Illusiveness, Act of Capitalization, and Scene of Crystallization on the technical degree of the Actional level.
Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, tells us here we can find "necessary adjustment of the practical details” in the environment before we commit to some line of activity, and of our need to focus on the present rather than long term ends. He speaks of a “desire for the approval of (others)” before we commit ourselves, and of “our determination to involve them in whatever commands (our) attention.
He offers us the keyword of ORDERING. He says that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "exceptional capacity for bringing all proper relationships to a point of effectiveness in any given exigency of everyday affairs.”
The Lunar degree symbol for the 4th degree of Cancer is “A cat arguing with a mouse.” In "the Astrology of Personality," where Rudhyar uses the original Dr. Jones' class notes on the symbols, 4 Cancer is said to be a symbol of “the urge to self-justification through intellectual sophistry or social-ethical considerations” and “a sense of righteousness.”
We are told in the Astrological Mandala that this symbolizes "an attempt at self-justification,” where we are confronting the results of an act or decision that radically reoriented our lives. We are told that this involves the multitude of lesser decisions that follow the big shifts in direction, and we are told to take note when echoes of desires argue with the voice of our new self. He continues that this symbol is related to cat and mouse arguments, whether within self or with another who is echoing the past.
He states there may be hesitancy and conflicting motives, with the mind “not facing the consequences which follow from desires or even from restlessness. Attempts at rationalization are experienced and should be understood.” He says it falls in the Span of Expansion, and it’s the penultimate (technique) degree in the actional level of the scene of Decision in the Act of Stabilization.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, this degree is one of our need to establish a mindset or realization “as a preliminary to any entrance into personal experience, and (our) tendency to enjoy the preparatory more than the consummatory phases of (our) participation in reality.” He states here is “the eternal effort of human nature to get outer acceptance or social sanction for (our) inborn desires, as well as inner or intelligent and practical confirmation for the values it has made its own.”
He offers us the keyword JUSTIFICATION. He states when operating in a positive manner, this degree “is a gift for persuading others to accept the motives of self and to co-operate with its ends.
From these symbols it seems we can see the light of a common feeling experience in a process of change helping us shift perspectives through taking care of immediate group involvements rather than long term views. This light will be expressed through getting ready to express something in the future, and take a last look back before cementing a new future. Find the cooperation you need, and you will see a confirmation in a new way of experiencing life.
TransPluto, Divine Mother, Neptune, and the Polarization in the Collective Atmosphere
In the Full Moon charts of 2009-2012, Neptune was in a very close opposition to TransPluto, the planet symbolizing Divine Mother Energy. That’s a major factor in why things became so polarized during those years, teaching humanity compassion and the need for Viveka, or Divine Discrimination. This has offered all of us opportunities to join together in the Great Mother and realize our interrelatedness on a feeling level with All-That-Is.
The energies of Divine Mother will only grow stronger throughout this century, and these will be demonstrated each time the planets make significant aspects to TransPluto. In this chart TransPluto is direct at 2 Virgo, showing us the long term future of humanity.
The Divine Redeemer is showing us ways to demonstrate a higher and broader level of discernment through accepting experiences that liberate us so that “compassion and understanding” may come forth. We’re still in the set of lessons related to the period when it occupied the first degree of Virgo in October 2011 through October 2014, as well as the time after that when it occupied 2 Virgo. It began its transit of 2 Virgo in October 2014, remaining there until mid-January 2015 when it retrograded back to 1 Virgo.
It re-entered 2 Virgo in early September 2015, and will stay at that degree until late Feb 2016, when it retrogrades back to 1 Virgo. It then goes forward to 2 Virgo in early August 2016, and stays there until the end of March 2017, when it again retrogrades back to 1 Virgo. As you can see, we’ll be dealing with themes related to 1 and 2 Virgo for a long time to come.
In terms of the larger Era, we’ve now ended the TransPluto (Percephone, Parvati) in Leo era that we knew from September 20, 1935 through July 4, 2014. The transition period where this planet danced at the last degree of Leo and first two degrees of Virgo began October 2011 and ended July 2014.
On July 4, 2014, TransPluto left Leo for many centuries, and entered into Virgo for the next century. It made it to 2 Virgo on October 16, 2014, where it eventually went stationary retrograde. That degree is one of humanity experiencing “a liberating ordeal.” Because it’s Divine Mother, I would think that would mean we all will be tested to allow compassion and understanding to come forth as humanity stands at the crossroads of time.
Of some importance is that Saturn squared TransPluto from December 2014 through June 2015, and again in late September and October 2015. That severely tested our ability to be far sighted, compassionate, and discerning in seeing the larger redemptive possibilities of this time in history. In this chart Saturn is now about to form a waxing biseptile to TransPluto, showing that January will be a huge turning point in finding responsible, future oriented truth teaching ways to demonstrate this “Divine Mother energy.”
Also, when Jupiter recently conjuncted TransPluto in August for the first time in Virgo, it began a new 12 year cycle of how these “Divine Mother energies” will manifest. It also began a new long wave era, since Jupiter will conjunct TransPluto in Virgo every 12 years until the 22nd century!
To finish this brief section, Venus also went stationary retrograde exactly conjunct TransPluto in late July, setting up Venusian manifestations of Divine Mother that will show each and every time 1 Virgo is transited. That means the Venusian Divine Mother promise of late July was expanded, or set into motion somehow, by Jupiter's transit of 1 Virgo in mid-August, and then took expression due to Mars’ transit of that degree in late September, and found “beauty of form” when Venus transited it in early October.
So we’ve officially entered a different Spiritual Era that will last through July 2107, when it leaves Virgo for good and re-enters Libra for the first time in many centuries, also after a few years of dancing on the cusp of Virgo and Libra. I just offered you a bit more about this vast spiritual energy field in Astrology in the Age of Aquarius - Transpluto, a.k.a Divine Mother, Parvati, and Percephone.
A New Look At Mercury Retrograde
As I mentioned in part 1, though Mercury is now moving through its shadow zone toward its retrograde station in early January at 2 Aquarius, guaranteeing all of us a “cosmic visitation” that will galvanize us to action. While that sounds very dramatic, you can bet you’re going to mobilize in the area of your chart where 2 Aquarius falls.
That’s why if you haven't already gotten your copy, you may want to buy a copy of the new expanded 2nd edition of my pioneering book A New Look At Mercury Retrograde, the 2015 winner in its category of The Indie Spiritual Book Awards.
