Stabilizing changes are in the air for the next few weeks, as are major decisions and turning points for everyone!
This activating, consolidating, protective and restructuring Full Moon bringing inspiration, serendipity, and forks in the road of destiny across several parts of our lives occurs at 3:56 pm PDT, 6:56 pm EDT, and 11:56 pm BST on July 19, and falls at the 28th degree of Cancer-Capricorn. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus through cooperating with others!
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
This is the second Full Moon where the Full Moon Sun is the same as the Sun sign of the previous New Moon. I’ll explain the importance of where we’ve been and where we’re going later in this article. Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon at 13 Cancer Pt. 1 - What’s Happening in July 2016 as well as The July New Moon at 13 Cancer Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means.
This continues the prototype we’ll be experiencing for many months! This one offers us the ability to use the light of the New Moon in Cancer and the strength, flexibility, play, creativity, or focused transformative energy you’re been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to organize and express whatever needs expression.
An Overview
This Full Moon brings forth intense self-gathering and some hard adjustments toward finding a greater responsibility or ability to manage group energy, and whatever is out of balance will be swinging wild! Saturn is still square Neptune, corresponding to the massive gear grind in the collective atmosphere. When the system is at odds with collective consciousness, and collective consciousness is stuck in a Piscean fog being challenged by the liberating energies of Sagittarius, I suppose we can expect what is going on here and abroad in the way of chaos.
That’s also why I’ve been reminding you not to be lulled into a false sense of security, since each time the Moon or an inner planet makes the square or opposition to Saturn or Neptune, we have echoes of the Mutable T-square and Grand Mutable Cross that fractured a lot in our lives the first 6 months of the year! At least the Saturn leg of the square is harmonized by the trines from Mercury and Venus in Leo, along with the strong binovile to Saturn from Jupiter, opening an important spiritual door for those with planets or angles near 1-2 Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, 8-10 Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, 18-20 Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, and 28-30 Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. Spiritual realizations blooming wild these next two weeks!
Most of the crucial aspects in play recently are now past. Mars is no longer quincunx Uranus, so that extreme energy will no longer be the driver in the hard edge of what’s been happening these past few weeks. We also are past the Mars septile Pluto, contributing to the mass insanity, and Jupiter biquintile Uranus separating shows that the unique interactions we’ve cultivated will bear fruit in the future, whereas the hard details we’ve tried to ignore will HAVE to be dealt with between early August and early October. No kidding.
We have now entered a time when we’ll have shifting Jones Patterns over the next few months. We’re no longer in the Bucket with Jupiter as the handle for focusing all the other planetary energies. At this point, since the Sun, Venus, and Mercury are all closing the gap with Jupiter, and the next Full Moon will fill in most of the signs between late Leo and late Aries, which takes us back to a Locomotive. So right now we’ve moving between Locomotive, See Saw, and Splay types.
Because of Jupiter’s position, we’re finishing up an active education by seeing life as an experiment, and because it’s picking up speed and already transited the degrees where Venus and Mars conjuncted it last October, we will see rapid forward movement on both personal and social levels since now those Virgo seeds are sprouting like mad. Because Jupiter is still conjunct the North Node, it indicates our generic line of greatest development involves “the expansive principle” being pushed to a greater effectiveness.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
The Grand Irrationality, along with the other non-rational configurations that happen off and on, indicate that we’ve been living in an era of very heavy decisions determining the future destiny of humanity since 1993. To refresh you, the Grand Irrationality is a long wave configuration set into motion every time a planet makes a conjunction, septile, biseptile, or triseptile to Neptune and Pluto. Septile series aspects show us points in time when our future destiny is precipitated by critical choices made in the present.
This Lunation puts the Grand Irrationality back front and center. It’s already been active in the recent past, and this one finds Mercury and Venus both in the Leo zone, triseptile Pluto! As Mercury makes a biseptile to Mars, it brings Mars back into the configuration. We are staring at a HUGE “forks in the road of destiny” for humanity over the next few weeks, with a lot of heat and heart via the Leo triggers.
At this time, the current seven “hot zone” spans that trigger the Grand Irrationality are approximately 10-14 Leo, 2-6 Libra, 24-28 Scorpio, 16-20 Capricorn, 7-11 Pisces, 28 Aries-2 Taurus, and 19-23 Gemini.
As I’ve explained before, we are now in a period where this influence is waning, since Neptune is now no longer in a close septile to Pluto. We are now moving through Summer, where Neptune and Pluto are as far apart as they get during the year. Each Summer during these years they will no longer be in septile.
Winter is when they are closest, but in Summer they’re too wide to be a septile. We’re now slowly moving out of the configuration, and within a few years Neptune and Pluto will be back in long term sextile, as they were for most of the last half of the 20th century.
At this time, the Grand Irrationality gains strength as we move through Autumn and into Winter, and will again lessen in strength in the late Winter into the Spring and Summer. As I’ve explained in other articles, that means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they operate as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
Because this configuration involves Neptune and Pluto, the outermost spiritual planets, they show a long wave evolutionary crisis for the entire human race. Since 1993, at one point or another, everyone on Earth has experienced a nonstop energy of having to choose, at the bottom of our beings, the path to evolution or devolution, progress or regress, love or fear, joy or control. It’s why things have been so weird, irrational, and hard-edged.
Important Factors
This Lunation brings us a mixed bag of forming aspects which I’ll discuss in parts 2 & 3. In this chart, the most prominent aspects include Mercury biseptile Mars, tredecile Uranus, quincunx Neptune, and triseptile; Venus novile Jupiter, trine Saturn, tredecile Uranus, quincunx Neptune, and triseptile Pluto; the Sun septile Jupiter; Jupiter binovile Saturn, and Saturn sesquisquare Uranus. There are also several minor aspects from the 9th, 10th, and 11th harmonic which we’ll discuss later in this series.
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Sun in Cancer through Mercury in Leo) spans 13+ degrees. Once Mars returns to the same proximity to other inner planets in October 2016, then we’ll again begin to have significant clusters in a very narrow span. For now, we have a focus of 4 planets in the 52+ degrees between the Sun and Jupiter, making late Cancer through late Virgo very active these next two weeks. This month we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 8 signs, in a widespread distribution.
The Splay Pattern and how it works
This month’s planets are in a widespread distribution but positioned somewhat irregularly in terms of spacing. This type of spread, with all the planets in odd angles to each other with differing distributions among the signs, creates a “Splay” Jones Pattern. As Dr. Marc Jones put it, “the arrangement is neither even nor symmetrical,” revealing “strong and sharp aggregations of the planets at irregular points.”
He offers that “This suggests highly individual or purposeful emphases in the life, where the temperament juts out into experiences according to its own very special tastes.” This pattern “makes its own anchorage in existence,” and has a quality of “rugged resistance to pigeonholing, either in the near conventional compartments of nature, or in the idea-pockets of associates.”
He goes on to state this pattern gives a “persistent emphasis on individuality,” and the “spokelike emphases of the planetary groupings” are random, but have a “tripod” footing and approach to life circumstances. He says this pattern “reveals a very intensive personality who cannot be limited to any single steady point of application.” This temperament is “particular and impersonal in its interests,” rather than “universal-impersonal” or “particular-personal.”
This implies that affairs will be diversely spread out, some will not mesh well with others, and there will be a “hub and spoke" quality to what happens these next 4 weeks. This spread shows a wide diversity of things going on that promotes individuality.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
We now have finished the pattern of the Full Moon Sun falling in a different sign than the Sun of the previous New Moon. This is the second Full Moon echoing the pattern we last had between September 2013 and September 2014, and we have left behind the “reversed pattern” we have been in since then.
So we’re now in many months of the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, since the last New Moon Sun was in Cancer, and this Full Moon Sun is also in Cancer. Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now have the “Seed Light” of Cancer that will come to a Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Cancer and Moon in Capricorn.
See you in the near future with parts two and three, where we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
