As I told you in part 1, this Penumbral Eclipse Full Moon is not really considered an eclipse, since it doesn’t really create a shadow and only lasts a few minutes. The heavy Solar and Lunar eclipses are coming soon! This Full Moon brings fulfillment wherever we have late Leo and late Aquarius in our charts.
This stabilizing, liberating, practical and decisive “almost an eclipse” Full Moon bringing inspiration, serendipity, gifts and spiritual realizations occurs at 2:26 am PDT, 5:26 am EDT, and 10:26 am BST on August 18, and falls at the 26th degree of Leo-Aquarius. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus through cooperating with others!
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
This is the third Full Moon where the Full Moon Sun is the same as the Sun sign of the previous New Moon. I’ll explain the importance of where we’ve been and where we’re going later in this article. Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon at 11 Leo Pt. 1 - What’s Happening in August 2016 as well as The August New Moon at 11 Leo Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means.
This continues the prototype we’ll be experiencing for many months! This one offers us the ability to use the light of the New Moon in Leo and the strength, honesty, play, and power you’re been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to organize and express whatever needs expression.
An Overview
This Full Moon brings forth forms of surrendering to a higher law, a linkage between the lower and higher Self, and a decrease of stress after the death of useless things. This promises many gifts and realizations, as well as significant turning points thanks to two Solar biseptiles and a Lunar triseptile. Saturn is still square Neptune, corresponding to the massive gear grind in the collective atmosphere. When the system is at odds with collective consciousness, and collective consciousness is stuck in a Piscean fog being challenged by the liberating energies of Sagittarius, I suppose we can expect what is going on here and abroad in the way of chaos.
We’ve all navigated some powerful Mutable T-square due to recent transits in early Virgo, anticipating the Solar T coming in early September. A lot has been fractured via the Mutable T-squares and Grand Mutable Cross the first 6 months of the year, and we get echoes each time the Moon squares or opposed Saturn or Neptune. In this charts, Saturn is harmonized by quintiles from Mercury and Jupiter and a spiritualizing binovile from Venus.
We are now in a time when we’ll have shifting Jones Patterns. We’re no longer in the Bucket with Jupiter as the handle for focusing all the other planetary energies, and like last month, since the Sun, Venus, and Mercury are all closing the gap with Jupiter, and this Full Moon fills in most of the signs between late Leo and late Aries, we’re back in a Locomotive pattern. So right now we’ve moving between Locomotive, See Saw, and Splay types.
Because of Jupiter’s position, we’re going to be introduced to a broader realm of service, and since Venus is on the degree where Mars conjuncted it last October, we will see rapid forward movement on both personal and social levels since now those Virgo seeds are sprouting like mad. Because Jupiter is still conjunct the North Node, it indicates our generic line of greatest development involves “the expansive principle” being pushed to a greater effectiveness.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
The Grand Irrationality, along with the other non-rational configurations that happen off and on, indicate that we’ve been living in an era of very heavy decisions determining the future destiny of humanity since 1993. To refresh you, the Grand Irrationality is a long wave configuration set into motion every time a planet makes a conjunction, septile, biseptile, or triseptile to Neptune and Pluto. Septile series aspects show us points in time when our future destiny is precipitated by critical choices made in the present.
Unlike last month, the Grand Irrationality is not active in this Full Moon, so humanity won’t have even more irrational pressure driving events. At this time, the current seven “hot zone” spans that trigger the Grand Irrationality are approximately 11-15 Leo, 2-6 Libra, 24-28 Scorpio, 16-20 Capricorn, 8-12 Pisces, 29 Aries-3 Taurus, and 20-24 Gemini.
As I’ve explained before, we are now in a period where this influence is waning, since Neptune is now no longer in a close septile to Pluto. We are now moving through Summer, where Neptune and Pluto are as far apart as they get during the year. Each Summer during these years they will no longer be in septile.
Winter is when they are closest, but in Summer they’re too wide to be a septile. We’re now slowly moving out of the configuration, and within a few years Neptune and Pluto will be back in long term sextile, as they were for most of the last half of the 20th century.
At this time, the Grand Irrationality gains strength as we move through Autumn and into Winter, and will again lessen in strength in the late Winter into the Spring and Summer. As I’ve explained in other articles, that means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they operate as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
Because this configuration involves Neptune and Pluto, the outermost spiritual planets, they show a long wave evolutionary crisis for the entire human race. Since 1993, at one point or another, everyone on Earth has experienced a nonstop energy of having to choose, at the bottom of our beings, the path to evolution or devolution, progress or regress, love or fear, joy or control. It’s why things have been so weird, irrational, and hard-edged.
Important Factors
This Lunation brings us a mixed bag of forming aspects which I’ll discuss in parts 2 & 3. In this chart, the most prominent aspects include Moon triseptile Mercury and binovile Mars, Mercury quintile Mars and Saturn, conjunct Jupiter, and quincunx Uranus; Venus binovile Mars, conjunct Jupiter, and binovile Saturn; the Sun biseptile Mars and Saturn; Mars quintile Jupiter, conjunct Saturn, sesquisquare Uranus, and square Neptune; Jupiter quintile Saturn and tredecile Pluto; and Saturn square Neptune. We’ll discuss the aspects from the 7th, 9th, and 10th harmonic series in a coming article.
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Sun in Leo through Jupiter in Virgo) spans 24+ degrees. Once Mars returns to the same proximity to other inner planets in October 2016, then we’ll again begin to have significant clusters in a very narrow span. For now, we have a focus of 4 planets in the 24+ degrees between the Sun and Jupiter, making late Leo through late Virgo very active these next two weeks. This month we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs, in a widespread distribution.
Currently, the occupied span begins with the Sun in Leo, and proceeds through planets in Virgo, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries. If there was more than one forming opposition it would be a See-Saw, but because of the clear 1/3 gap between Uranus in Aries and the Sun in Leo, this spread is called a Locomotive Jones pattern.
The Locomotive Pattern and how it works
This type of spread, with all the planets occupying 2/3 of the signs with an empty third, creates an imbalance that leads to power if we can find the compensatory “weight” to make things move forward smoothly rather than rock side to side creating friction. Target what is needed, and provide compensatory energies accordingly.
As Marc Jones put it, “this type of horoscope reveals a balance of this sort in the life. A third part of things… consisting of a free span in experience, is set against a two-thirds part, embracing a related but limited span in experience…. The basis of the dynamic is found in the native’s resulting strong sense of a lack or a need, of a problem to be solved, a task to be achieved in the social and intellectual world around him.”
Dr. Jones states “The temperament reveals a self-driving individuality, an executive eccentricity that is not … unbalance but rather is power. It exhibits a dynamic and exceptionally practical capacity which is neither the broad universality of the Splash pattern, nor the special obsession with some particularly narrowed aspect of experience characteristic of the Bundle people.
He goes on to state “The Locomotive classification is … moved more by external factors in the environment than by aspects of its own character. The point of application for the powers of the self is shown … by the “leading planet,” or the one of the two in the empty trine which forms its aspect clockwise in the zodiac, irrespective of any distinction as “applying” or “separating.”
The Sun is the leading planet in the Locomotive. This should bring power and focus to whatever was promised back when Jupiter was in Leo and the leading planet of the Locomotive patterns prevailing between the Autumn of 2014 and the Spring of 2015. This is the power of the mature heart interacting with others in elegant ways, life as art and art as life. Lead with it, play with it, express it, and have fun with it! Despite the imbalances, you could find power, strength, and truth in the approach.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
We now have finished the pattern of the Full Moon Sun falling in a different sign than the Sun of the previous New Moon. This is the third Full Moon echoing the pattern we last had between September 2013 and September 2014, and we have left behind the “reversed pattern” we have been in since then.
So we’re now in many months of the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, since the last New Moon Sun was in Leo, and this Full Moon Sun is also in Leo. Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now have the “Seed Light” of Leo that will come to a Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Leo and Moon in Aquarius.
See you in the near future with parts three and four, where we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
