Since I believe my new book “Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend” contains more than a few gems of wisdom and insight, I’m posting a few pieces from various parts of the work each week. Today we take a brief look at the value of certain limitations in Chapter 5.
All human beings are limited by circumstances, and most of us at one time or another have wondered why things are the way they are. Every person wants to break free of their limitations and overcome their blind spots. So why are we bound in time? Why must we endure certain limitations until we don’t? Why are we limited by what we can and cannot do? What holds us back until it's time to move forward? We all have the power to grow beyond limitations. They only oppress us until we learn our power to step outside of obsolete views into newer, healthier roles to play. As we learn not to take certain lessons personally, seeing through the lower ego perceptual traps, we can examine how we all have been limited by various aspects of our understanding which set up certain lessons, both individual and interactive, unique as well as recurring.
We must master certain approaches before seeking other fields of exploration, realization, application, and expertise. Limits are the means by which our quest for Truth becomes coherent. Sometimes they make sense to us, and other times they seem meaningless, frustrating, and heavier than iron chains.
Along the way we find we must confront the need to be realistic about our abilities, whether we're dealing with the limitations of outer forms or the inner limits of our lack of knowing how to respond to something. Through understanding the limitations we confront and how to overcome them, we are shown the coherency of our journey from incompetence to effectiveness.
Without Saturn we'd be adrift in an infinite sea of lessons, with no beginning, no end, no form, and no structure. Saturn represents the outer limits of what we're able to deal with in the moment. Everything that hinders us originated somewhere, since none of us is a victim of random circumstances. So just how and why do our limitations come to be?
As Soul/Spirits in the material world, we find a sense of significance and purpose by accepting certain voluntary limitations in order to focus our lives and intention in meaningful ways. Saturn represents "the limitations ordained by duty" we must accept if we are to fulfill our understanding of any given life experience and how it fits into our evolution from ignorance to higher awareness.
While there is no limit to the growth of the Soul, many different limitations of form shape different seasons of life. Through this we come to a well-rounded Wisdom, and are offered textures in our understanding through knowing when to stop, when to go, when to work, and when to play, across the physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual realms of experience.
This book takes an entirely new look at our inner Saturn and the power it gives us to take command of our lives and destiny. If Saturn represents all that limits us and holds us back, it’s only because we must master those lessons so we may become spiritual adults and fulfill our purpose for being alive on Earth. By knowing our Saturnian strengths, we can overcome fear and any sense of victimization or powerlessness.
It was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers, and gives the reader the power to understand why some things happened when they did. Throughout the book, it offers ways for us to “make friends” with this part of our existence and take command of our destiny. As you read each chapter, you’ll become more aware of all the factors assisting Soul growth through understanding how our Saturn lessons relate to Dharma (our Highest Spiritual Function) and various types of karma, both those we cause and those which are "Sacred Wounds" leading us to a greater compassion and understanding.
And as you've just sampled, we explore the concept of Saturn representing our Ring-Pass-Not, or that part of us which is limited while we learn certain lessons related to our understanding of who we are and why we can or cannot do certain things. As our Saturn expands its understanding and wisdom, then our Ring-Pass-Not expands so we can find purpose and meaning in each chapter of life. It is the secret to our power to guide our own evolution as we become conscious of the meaning of why we are on Earth.
The second part of the book examines how Saturn cycles mark major points of choice and change throughout life, and what we can expect when Saturn makes conjunctions, squares, and oppositions to our planets and Ascendant. There are tables assisting the reader to know when Saturn was in each sign, so even those with little or no understanding of astrology can track the timing on their major life changes. There is an entire chapter dedicated to the Saturn Return, perhaps the most important times in life when our decisions profoundly shape our future.
Part two closes with a chapter on one of the most crucial factors in our personal unfoldment: how the progressed Moon and transiting Saturn cycles track each other throughout life and relate to our emotional growth, and a chapter on a global phenomenon happening since 2003 impacting everyone on Earth. The Epilogue offers a few insights about living “the spiritual life,” and opens dimensions of higher and broader possibilities of personal evolution, regardless of which path to Truth we may be on.
This is a book you will reference many times for many reasons, and each time you pick it up you’re sure to find undiscovered gems of insight on each page. This book can help you throw off all the attitudes and memories which have held you back from finding and living the life and purpose you’ve been searching for since you were young. Welcome to the journey of self-discovery, and finding your power to live your life on your own terms, fulfilling your reason for being alive as an Eternal having human experiences!

Just purchased your book. Should get it by the winter solstice.
Over the years, now, going on eight, I have grown to admire your wisdom and your ability to churn out relevant and insightful articles, not only on astrology, but music, philosophy, and life, in all it's difficulty and many splendid wonder. The churning is to say - you are devoted and passionate and steadfast, a rhythm missing in the Twittery world we live in. Something also as a struggling writer - and other things - I can truly appreciate and commend and respect.
I came here many years ago for insights into self. I was smarting still from a hangover of a relationship, that seemed fated, from the 1st house to the 12th, and all the planetoids in between. Sure, I was a bit of a skeptic. I dabbled in the understanding, trying to find a reason for that particular season's ending.
Later, I lost my mom in 2011. That made life hard - as she was the last person I can say truly loved me as I was. Not having to act a part as this world often triggers one to do. But, as it turned out, I read your articles, and they helped me get through. Over time, I felt more grounded. A bit more able to trust in whatever this plan is...
And well, your insights daily, oftentimes, made for "a present" that I could count on to get me around, through, or over the obstacle, that, usually, was just me.
You are excellent soul and writer. I hope to enjoy the entirety of "Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend." Not so ironically, that lost love was my Saturn - teaching lessons - and the astrology jibes up with that overarching concept to an eerie degree. I wish her well.
Anyone that reads your articles, and rereads them (like a Saturn return), will find new nuggets and lessons. Robert does it right.
May your holidays be bright!
Sincerely,
Jason
