While this question could indeed fill several books (and has!), I found a comment from the Tibetan Master D.K. in one of the many tomes he collaborated on with Alice A. Bailey. It’s a very interesting statement about why we're here.
I couldn't find the original page this was on, but I believe it is from what is termed "The Old Commentary." For your consideration, a brief but potent statement on the nature of human life on Earth:
"Each incarnation continues the experiment, deepens our experience, and relates the expression more closely to the latent unfolding Divinity."
Food for thought as we begin to close the past year cycle and prepare to embrace Spring at the coming Vernal Equinox.

An interesting post with much to think about, specially as you point out, at this time to close the past year cycle and prepare to embrace the Spring and the coming Vernal Equinox.
The quote is from Alice Bailey book The Rays and the Initiations, page 337.
Blessings be to all.

Here's another good one from "The Old Commentary" -
with an insight into the polarity of Leo/Aquarius
"The Lion begins to roar. He rushes forth and, in his urge to live, he wields destruction. And then again he roars and - rushing to the stream of life - drinks deep. Then, having drunk, the magic of the waters works. He stands transformed.
The Lion disappears and he who bears the water pot stands forth and starts upon his mission."
