by Robert Wilkinson
Over the next 4 weeks, the New Moon in Cancer indicates a time of turning in new directions, finding new “family,” reorienting toward exploring unknown zones, accepting responsibility for crafting the future, and allowing the past to feed the future. We left the past behind in April and May while opening the door to “a new quality of being which renders the old patterns obsolete.” The next 4 weeks involve tests of the will, so be strong and flexible.
This is the twenty-second New Moon since the launch of the Saturn in Sagittarius era in late September 2015, and that planet continues to be important in several ways during this time of the year. There are a number of important aspects in play which I’ll discuss in part two. This Lunation continues the “Bucket” Jones pattern, with Jupiter as the nozzle, or focal determinator, for all the other planets.
As the focal determinator of the Bucket, Jupiter in Libra is how we can get a handle on focusing and expressing the other planetary energies, it shows how to manage these forces. It favors our being diplomatic, pleasant, reasonable, and expansive in our sense of how to smooth things out for everyone! Alternately, stand up for peace, justice, what’s fair, and see what’s out of balance to find your way to contribute to the general harmony.
As Jupiter also has an influence of what we expect, imagine, and hope for, be balanced in how you express those Libra energies as you find the right rhythm of regeneration. Tune into Nature, and tune out the white noise. And remember to seek peace, think peace, and BE peace. This is the Summer of peaceful warriors assembling, mobilizing, and concentrating heart power through creativity.
Libra is the sign of relationships, reconsideration of proportionality, and the dance of interactivity. It is a time to lead all activity with new ideals and new ideas. We’re now back in the part of Libra where we get a sense of individual, mental, and/or spiritual archetypes. In this chart Jupiter is still at 14 Libra, where it went stationary direct on June 9 at the Christfest Full Moon at 19 Sagittarius-Gemini. Consider the next 4 weeks as the reorientation and realignment with a new life trend, with Jupiter as the focus for the next few weeks.
From January through the 2nd week of May, Jupiter was leading us through “doing repair and/or reconstruction work” related to a past we left behind a while ago, or the more recent past we left behind in April and May 2017. I’ll explain more about the Bucket pattern in part 2 so you’ll understand the best use of Jupiter in Libra energy.
So What’s Happening?
Today we’ll do an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In part 2 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
This initiating, cautious, sensitive, hyper-perceptive and “self-gathering” New Moon that brings together many parts of our lives in the arena where we have the first half of Cancer in our charts occurs at 3 Cancer on June 23 at 7:31 pm PDT, 10:31 pm EDT, and June 24 at 3:31 am BST. Cancer is where we find personal connectedness with the information that came to us in Gemini, and mobilize on our own behalf to become more secure with the unfolding process.
This New Moon is the fourteenth in a sequence where the Sun falls in the same sign as the Sun in the next Full Moon. There are two patterns: one with the Sun in the same sign as the Sun in the following Full Moon (New Moon between 1-15 degrees of a sign), and one with the Sun in a different sign than it’s in at the following Full Moon (New Moon between 16-30 degrees of a sign).
Currently, we’re nearing the close of the “normal order” of Lunation Sun placements, which will shift to the other pattern at the New Moon Solar Eclipse in August at 29 Leo. The Full Moon after that places the Sun at 14 Virgo and Moon at 14 Pisces. The last time we had this “different order” was during the 16 months before the 2016 New Moon in Gemini. Since I explain this phenomenon and what it means in the Full Moon articles, you will learn more from consulting recent Full Moon articles.
The New Moons and Full Moons are “God’s footprints in time.” Each shows the next in the 12 phases of how things come to be each year. The cycle could be described as follows: Life energy is initiated in Aries, substantiated in Taurus, explored in Gemini, grounded in Cancer, renewed and creatively expressed in Leo, refined and ordered in Virgo, balanced and made pleasing in Libra, purified and focused in Scorpio, expanded in Sagittarius, organized in Capricorn, solidified into a vision in Aquarius, and ended/perpetuated in Pisces.
An Overview of the New Moon
Even though the Jones patterns shift quite a bit due to the sign position of the Moon, during the time we have New Moons between Capricorn and Cancer we have either a Bowl or a Bucket Jones pattern. Soon we’ll begin to experience an off and on See-Saw pattern, and by August we’ll be in a variety of shifting patterns.
This chart has a huge number of forming aspects created by the multiple oppositions from the stellium in Cancer opposed to Pluto in Capricorn. This creates a “tension of opposites” on that axis, relieved by Neptune in Pisces throwing a favorable void to Virgo. The other “tension of opposites” I’ve spoken about in previous articles involves the forming Jupiter opposed Uranus, relieved by Saturn in Sag, throwing the void into Gemini. So the coming weeks require that we use the polarization to understand how to maneuver within the collective Unconscious, as well as use “structured imagination” to adapt so we can make progress despite limiting conditions. Saturn will expand our "response ability" these next 4 weeks, occasionally through some unexpected good fortune!
The Lunation features the first of the coming Cardinal T-squares from transits in Cancer to Jupiter in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn. This makes mid-Aries the solution to the productive integration of the forces striving to come forth. The dynamic transits in Cancer dominate the chart, as there are very few other significant aspects that don’t involve this stellium.
This New Moon will jumpstart Cancer energy wherever it falls in our chart. With this Lunation, we are in a time where we can and should embrace turning points, new allegiances, new challenges, and get beyond the known and familiar. Family and home life are associated with this sign, so expect many polarized developments forcing choices challenging your strength and your flexibility.
The ongoing Saturn trine Uranus this year is giving us the ability to cultivate heart strength, creativity, and the Solar Fire by which we become our Eternal Light that can never be extinguished. By developing new heart strengths via the Fire trine, using Jupiter as the focus we can find various ways to use different kinds of power in balanced, rhythmic ways. Here we have to learn to adjust to the natural rhythm of the NOW, and those who are disciplined and mature in their adaptation will find great good fortune and joy.
Saturn, relieving the opposition between Libra and Aries, creates a void at 24 Gemini, the “ice skater” degree. This just happens to be the exact degree Mars occupied at the last New Moon in Gemini, so no doubt the skills we’ve been practicing, as well as the things that have aggravated us these past 4 weeks, will all play a part in how we handle the void created by Saturn in this chart. The theme involves looking at the past and present to see how to demonstrate skill in moving through resistant conditions, and finding ways to recreate and re-create ourselves despite outer circumstances.
So What Rules the Lunation?
This New Moon in Cancer has the Moon in Cancer as the worldly ruler and the Sun in Cancer as the spiritual ruler. This makes the Moon very strong, since it is the final dispositor of Mercury, the Sun, Mars, and Uranus. Venus in Taurus is in its home sign, and thus is the final dispositor for Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, with Neptune in Pisces a “standalone” dispositor of itself. So for the first time in a while, we don’t have any chains of dispositors, or planets in mutual reception.
Venus’ degree tells us to purify our minds so a new spontaneity can come forth. This will lead to specialized gifts and conditions, whether we’re “facing facts” and putting a new light on old ideas, or experiencing a new identity coming forth in rather abrupt ways. Venus is still a very powerful leg in the 3 occupied points of our “5 pointed Star pattern,” or “Great Quintile.” I’ll speak more on this in part 2.
You can find out more about dispositors in general, chains of dispositors, and mutual reception by going to dispositors and Mutual Reception at the link.
The Grand Irrationality
The reason this section is a recurring feature in the Lunation articles is because it was set into long term play by the 2011 Solar Eclipse, as well as subsequent Solar Eclipses whose influence continues. These effects are triggered each time any transiting planet occupies any of the 7 zones of the Grand Irrationality. Since then it’s been reinforced and triggered by various Lunations, planetary stations, and transits.
It’s been triggered in quite a few past Lunations, including the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Pisces 3 months ago. That means humanity at large is in for major choices and changes over the next few years, which will certainly keep things dynamic, if unstable! This configuration is set into motion by any conjunction with or septile-series aspect to Neptune or Pluto.
It was activated in a big way when Mercury moved between 1-5 Taurus, where it went SRX in early April as prelude to being powered up when the Sun moved through that span just before the New Moon in Taurus. The transits in Taurus made biseptiles to Pluto and septiles to Neptune.
While those are done for the year, we have yet another batch of triggers coming soon! We’ll have Mercury heralding the next huge swirl in mid-July when it moves through the Leo zone, and then a tag team set of triggers in late July when Venus is in the Gemini zone, and most of the first 3 weeks of August, when the Sun and Mars move through the Leo zone.
All of this is within the umbra of the late September 2016 Sun conjunct Jupiter triseptile Neptune, keeping the energy active throughout various points in this Sun-Jupiter in Libra cycle lasting through this October. Each time there’s a transit to any of the 7 zones, it profoundly affects those with a planet or angle in any of the 7 “hot zones” defining the phenomenon.
For those who are new to the site, here’s a bit of explanation about this thing called “the Grand Irrationality” associated with why everything continues to be so weird. As I’ve explained many times before, the Grand Irrationality is a long wave non-rational influence that has put everyone on Earth on the unceasing edge of major choice and change.
Everyone has been confronting inner compulsions, continual choices that seem to have a major impact on our destiny, and occasionally irrational behaviors in others or external conditions. It is why things seem to have an unending hard edge, why so many choices are continually thrown in our faces that require immediate attention, and why reason seems to fail at critical moments of decision.
When the Grand Irrationality is in play, it’s a time when things don’t have to make sense. We’ve been living with it for almost 25 years, and it will be active for a couple more years to come, even though we’ve begun to be on the far side of that influence.
Though it will wane in intensity in the future, there will be enough set into motion that won’t make sense that we certainly can’t be lulled into a false sense of complacency! Add its influence in Solar Eclipses that can last for years, and it’s no surprise that we’re certainly still seeing some global craziness and irrational behavior, so be aware!
Because late Autumn through mid-Spring brings Neptune into a close septile with Pluto, during those months the configuration acts as a simultaneous “pulse” that activates Neptune and Pluto at the same time. However, as we get into late Spring through mid-Autumn, we’re experiencing a lag in how Neptune and Pluto operate, since they’re now out of the septile and again approaching the sextile they made from 1942-1995.
The current degree spans that trigger this transformative mass configuration are around 13-17 Leo, 4-8 Libra, 26-30 Scorpio, 18-22 Capricorn, 10-14 Pisces, 1-5 Taurus, and 22-26 Gemini. If you have a planet or angle in any of these zones, you are making critical choices and decisions that will alter your future in important ways. This event requires that we put our spiritual knowledge and truth to the test, and live the teachings we believe!
Neptune and Chiron in Pisces
I have offered this segment each month for years to give you a broader perspective on the collective atmosphere, and the long wave changes humanity is going through. However, since they have long passed the cusp of the Great Age, I am no longer going to post this segment as I have, and will instead post the entire piece updated at key points in the Neptune cycle in the future.
Because Neptune and Chiron have been in Pisces for 5 years, we’ve been navigating through the threshold of an entirely new era that will not resemble the old Age in any way within just a few decades. We’re already solidly in the Dreamscape, and are already seeing long wave manifestations of the ending of the old and the emerging field we’re all learning how to maneuver through.
The last half of 2011 helped many break out of their "chrysalis" and transform their lives and relationships. If you want to know what's coming for many years to come, take a look back at the intuitions and sense of belonging to a vaster interrelated whole you were shown in Spring and Summer of 2011. It may help to give a sense of our collective lesson in dissolving our separateness as we finish this transition through "the Winter of the 21st Century" on our way to Spring, beginning in 2025!
In this chart, Chiron is again at 29 Pisces. This is the same degree where Jupiter conjuncted Uranus in 2010, so we should get flashes of how we’ve been healed or mentored since then. Chiron has not been in this “face” of Pisces since 1966-1968, and this is the degree where it will go stationary retrograde in July 2017, making the theme of the relationship of the parts to the whole at the end of cycles important in healing and/or mentoring to come.
As Chiron and Neptune pass through late Pisces, we shall see echoes in the collective consciousness related to the various Uranus stations from 2008-2010, and specifically the Jupiter conjunctions to Uranus during 2010. We have been and are being shown healing and mentoring techniques that can help us deal with the larger collective atmosphere in the years to come.
Chiron transits help each of us heal anew through our positioning within collective consciousness, assisting us to find ways to mentor and be mentored in Piscean ways. This one also has the themes of “a closing in of vision” that leads to an “enlargement of perception.” We can learn the power of “subtle analysis” while seeing how the forms fall away from the essence at the end of a cycle of manifestation, showing us how Light forms the spectrum, and the spectrum is resolved in the Light.
This comes as part of a larger cycle of purification and closure. Here we heal into our higher Self by forgiving much and enjoying even more as we experience the end of a long cycle.
Neptune shows us how to merge the sacred and the everyday in our lives. Over the past several years, we have heard a call to a life renewal, dumped excess and unnecessary baggage to quicken the pace in achieving some social goal, mastered something important in our spiritual quest, been offered higher responsibilities, and been shown what spiritual goals we’re fit to accomplish. The March 2017 Solar Eclipse in Pisces continues to assist us in releasing the last baggage we no longer need over the next few years.
2016 completed our realizations of these lessons, and prepared us to move forward. This chart has Neptune direct at 15 Pisces, which is an unknown zone for Neptune and the world and the degree where went stationary retrograde on June 16. This is a threshold state in collective consciousness, where appearances must be set aside so we can deal with real necessities, and we need to rehearse before we do our symbolic battle. Humanity is now officially under a barrage of live shells, practicing maneuvers!
We’re now solidly launched into a newer spiritual realm, where our ego mind has been introduced to a deeper and vaster Soul realm and our testing has begun. We originally “entered this sanctuary” in the Spring of 2016, and got a review in August and September. In 2017 we’re “proving our qualifications,” as Neptune’s retrograde will move back from 15 to 12 Pisces, its SD degree later this year.
Beginning June 2016, we were introduced to a new ideal of courage and focused will power within a greater cause or dedication. We’ve now moved into learning a technique of “camouflage” so that we can do what we have to do without being unnecessarily exposed or hassled by the world. Worth is being made evident as part of further testing during 2017, which is opening a “Sacred Space” for each of us, where we may awaken to a greater role, let go of fear, and learn from those who are true custodians of Soul force.
Because Neptune is at 15 Pisces, the collective atmosphere is related to the quickening in collective consciousness awakened by Uranus in 2006-2007. Though we will be finishing up some lessons related to earlier degrees in Pisces through 2017, we are now in a culminative zone, since Neptune has not been in this face of Pisces since 1852-1854. Now that we are past Neptune’s previous forward station, we are in an entirely new era in Neptune’s influence on the collective consciousness!
As Neptune has not experienced this span of Pisces since the 1850s, it indicates that collective consciousness in 2014-2017 is in a zone filled with turmoil historically. Given Pluto is also in a zone where it last was in the 1770s, it would seem revolution is in the air!
Because of where Neptune went RX last June, it’s part of a larger phase of showing courage and valor in demonstrating our ability to focus will power to be the vehicle for Divine Will to manifest in our world. We’ve been tested, and faced forms of collective wisdom to re-affirm our purpose. Some have received revelations about God or Truth, which will be key factors in the courage we have to demonstrate and the will power we have to focus now, but with the added theme of taking a new look or finding a new understanding related to our personality’s entrance into the Soul realm.
The North Node
The North Node in Virgo and South Node in Pisces era is now over after about a year and a half! We’ve now entered the North Node in Leo and South Node in Aquarius era, showing our greatest development is now in a different element and mode of expression. NN in Leo, our greatest development is through our ability to love, to create, to play, to be spontaneous, and to be wholehearted in “tending the Solar Fire” that shows the world our heart’s strength and desire. Because the SN is in Aquarius, we will demonstrate these qualities through dispassion, idealism, working for the greatest good for the greatest number, and finding others in our true spiritual group of world servers.
The North Node in the third decan of Leo brings a more specific focus on growth in that direction. This seems to be laying down a favorable growth vector that will be made real in July, August, and September when the inner planets all move across the North Node while making Grand Fire trines with Saturn and Uranus. This should manifest as another type of “Summer of Love.”
We are now are going to develop through the Saturn skills and disciplines we confronted when it transited and went stationary retrograde on this degree (26 Leo) in December 2006. That means the next 4 weeks are directly related to the disciplines and hard truths we learned and duties we assumed in 2007 that blessed us to move in a new direction in the Summer of 2015.
This NN degree is the 26th degree of Leo, which we are told is "A rainbow.” In "the Astrology of Personality," where Rudhyar uses the original Dr. Jones' class notes on the symbols, 26 Leo is said to be a symbol of “Promise of conscious immortality after the death of useless things,” “Spiritual linkage through emotional stress,” and “blessing.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves “Linking above and below, the Covenant with one’s divine nature, promise of immortality.” Here we confront our divine Archetype to the degree we have been victorious in “crossing the desert” and making it to “the other shore.” Our striving to overcome our trials has established the link between our earthly self and Heavenly Self, and we are told this link must remain unbroken.
He says that this degree “shows us the need to maintain a state of open communication between the Sky and the Earth within our total being…. to face the totality of our individual selfhood.” He states “after every successfully met crisis, the revelation of worth comes to us, and with it comes the promise of success, if only we do our part.” He says it falls in the span of "Interpretation,” and it’s the first degree of the individual mental level of the scene of Release in the Act of Stabilization.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “the overall realization which comes… whenever we strive to reach the goals of a more enduring sort.” Here we’re assured “divine participation” even in difficult circumstances, where we learn about the “consistent ordering” of the world, and that “nature will cooperate effectively with every vision (we choose) to keep alive.”
He offers us the keyword of SIGNIFICANCE. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "a sense of very real spiritual power and presence in all personal effort and desire.”
So the North Node, our line of greatest evolutional development, indicates these next 4 weeks point to growth via seeing the Light in how we are the divine guidance we seek, and we are the bridge between worldly and heavenly things. Here the vision we’ve kept alive will be aided by Nature Herself, and we can find a transcendent peace beyond the push and pulls of this world of duality. Let go of useless things to receive the blessings that enable you to be a greater love, wisdom, productivity, and creativity.
Summing Up
I’ll close today by offering that this New Moon will show us ways to take care of ourselves as we cautiously embark on new adventures taking us beyond the familiar. Though it may seem to be an ordeal at times, we’ve definitely already turned the corner, and the old way has already begun to give up its life to feed our new existence.
As I told you last months, ever since the Solar Eclipse in Pisces “the race has begun,” and there’s no time for hesitancy or unnecessary considerations. Do what needs to be done quickly and efficiently, and let the ghosts of the past flow down the time stream. Forgive much, let go of much, give away all you no longer need, and await the revelation to come.
Because of our reflections and rewinds during the Venus retrograde period from early March to now, we’re already reprogramming our subconscious minds regarding how old relationships liberated us, or freed us from responsibilities we no longer needed. The recent Mercury retrograde helped us look back to see what we had buried that opened our present life, and we now have had ample opportunities to re-shape our minds in forms of receptivity so that we could fulfill some promise awakened in the Summer of 2016.
We can now make rapid progress in many areas; see what you care about, gather what you need to feed your on-going growth, stay balanced in how you adjust to the natural rhythm of things, and open to the joy of learning how to be genuinely happy. Great good fortune is in the air for those who have made friends with Saturn, and if you can catch the wave promised by the North Node, the coming weeks promise “spiritual linkage through emotional stress” as well as blessings after the death of useless things. A new day is dawning and this dawn will last a few months, so be awake and alert to expanding your heart, your Light, your Fire, and your inspiration.
What are you dedicated to? The old life has died, even if there are echoes of memories to be cleaned up, cleaned out, and blessed that come forth occasionally. The new day has in fact already dawned, and a new way of life has been revealed to each of us. The chaotic past is now rapidly moving down the timestream, so face forward, as there are new opportunities as well as old promises to be redeemed. Be the Light of your most genuine and enjoyable self, and say goodbye to the past that’s already gone.
See you soon with part 2, which will cover Sabian Symbols, Jones patterns, element distribution, and a whole lot more!
