Uranus went stationary retrograde at 29 Aries on August 2-3, and Saturn just went stationary direct at 22 Sagittarius on August 25. These indicate major sea changes in their respective areas of influence, and the trine they’ve been making for the past 10 months has strengthened our Spirit wherever we have the last decan of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.
The fact that both of these heavyweight outer planets hit their stations within a few weeks of each other signifies we’re going through a period when we hit dual “threshold states,” each one beginning a review of innovations and revolutions just past, and structures and duties already realized, reviewed, and ready to be fulfilled. This has been going on for quite a few years, and I believe the aspects they make during these stationary events are indicative of how easy or difficult these sea changes are.
In 2011, Saturn went direct at 11 Libra in mid-June while Uranus went RX at 5 Aries in early July, an opposition that separated over the following months. This indicated the polarity of oppositional energy passed into tensional awareness the second half of 2011, eventually becoming a waning triseptile in late 2011 and early 2012.
In 2012, Saturn went direct at 23 Libra in late June while Uranus went RX 9 Aries in early July, an “undecaquartisextile” or 165 degree aspect. It is said this combines both harmonious and disruptive influences. The second half of 2012 they moved into another waning triseptile and then quincunx, settling into a biquintile in early 2013.
In 2013, Saturn went direct at 5 Scorpio in early July, while Uranus went RX at 13 Aries about a week later. While this is not an aspect, from there they went on to make another triseptile, then quincunx, and biquintile through the end of the year.
In 2014, Saturn went direct at 17 Scorpio within a few hours of Uranus going SRX at 17 Aries. That was a very powerful quincunx that dominated that period, and forced a lot of practical adjustment, attention to health, and adaptability in understanding things from multiple angles of approach. The second half of 2014 they made a biquintile, settling into the first of several sesquisquares in late 2014.
In 2015, Uranus went stationary retrograde at 21 Aries in late July just a few days before Saturn went direct at 29 Scorpio in early August. This isn’t an aspect, and from there they began to make a series of sesquisquares to each other. By the end of 2015 they began to be within orb of a trine, but receded from their paths before making it.
In 2016, Uranus went stationary retrograde at 25 Aries in late July about 2 weeks before Saturn went direct at 9 Sagittarius in mid-August. This was an almost exact sesquisquare, which are 8th harmonic aspects, along with semisquares, squares, and oppositions. Sesquisquares can happen from planets in signs that are harmonious, or disharmonious.
All sesquisquares are frictional and interactive. That began a period of agitation and disharmony, even though both planets were in signs that ordinarily are harmonious with each other. That marked a period of agitation in our charts wherever we had Sagittarius and Aries in our charts. It was friction without crisis, spurring us to act in a deliberate way to understand and act on something in the houses involved in our charts.
Last year I gave you an example of how this worked out in my own life. At that time, Saturn was on the border of my 4th and 5th houses, and Uranus was in my 9th approaching my MC. At that time I realized through frictional (sesquisquare) events that I will be moving at some point in the not-distant future (4th house), and also realized I want to write a children’s book (5th house is children). Of course, each of these will take time and planning (Saturn). And by the time Saturn went retrograde in early 2017, I had in fact made a substantial life move.
We now have Uranus stationary retrograde at 29 Aries and Saturn direct at 21 Sagittarius, yielding another manifestation of the trine energy they’ve linked up since November 2016. As I noted earlier, this has stabilized and harmonized the areas of our lives where we have the last part of the Fire and Air signs.
Uranus, showing the higher Law of our Being and our ongoing spur to individualization is in my 9th house, governing publishing and spiritual views. I have been spurred to do more writing and teaching since it went into my 9th a while back, and the sesquisquare of Summer 2016 corresponded with a push to finish my book “Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend.”
The current trine has shown me a different “phase relationship” to my writing, and my need to harmonize some things about my life rather than work all the time. I’m definitely finding a harmony between my 1st, 5th, and 9th house affairs, and see perfectly how Saturn in my 5th has manifested harmoniously this past year.
So take a look at where Saturn is in your chart, since it’s the timekeeper helping you restructure that part of your life. Look to where Uranus is, since it’s helping you see ways to break free of binding conditions and claim your spiritual individuality. Wherever this is happening, you’re experiencing a harmonizing of Solar Fire with Fire by friction to become inspired in your understanding of how to blend your Destiny with your need to be free to BE your individuality.
So this has been and continues to be a type of “Summer of Love” with numerous trines from planets in Leo to Saturn and Uranus. Though the Moon in Leo has triggered it every month since late 2016, it was set into motion by Mercury in mid-July, and the Sun and Mars in August. It will be front and center again in early September with Mercury conjunct Mars in late Leo trine Uranus, followed by Venus making its Grand Fire Trine in mid-September. And the entire time it’s being fed with favorable Air energy via Jupiter in late Libra!
So make the most of the Fire trines while you can, since it will shift by late December, eventually moving into a very favorable tredecile from January through the end of April 2018. After that, Saturn in Capricorn will begin to trine Uranus in Taurus in May, bringing a new manifestation to that stabilizing and harmonizing aspect.
So review the part you want to sing in the Cosmic Choir on the Stage of Life. This gives us a chance to get a new take on the facts we’ve had to face, the opportunities we thought were lost and whether we really want to reclaim them, and the need to be thoughtful and cautious as we awaken to a greater, more effective individuality. We now can move forward with confidence in the understanding we’ve attained and the structures we’ve built since last November.
Since these two power players are front and center on the world stage, if you want to learn more about the power of Saturn and Uranus to shape our Spiritual and worldly existence, please re-visit Uranus and Saturn – Inspiration and Reality, Freedom and Dharma, Individuality and Destiny. Many themes from that article are explored in greater breadth and depth in my book, so enjoy the intro!
