I originally wrote part of this section in response to an email from a client who wondered "Are there any birth dates that are closer to 'good' or 'evil?'" She said "I guess you’d first have to believe that human nature can be evil, so already I’m having trouble asking the question." I thought this interesting question deserved a thoughtful answer.
Our birth charts show us what cycles we've set into motion, and what we're dealing with. As I mentioned in part 1, all of us are learning to deal with the results of prior karmas left over from other times. These types of karmic lessons come from past chapters of our life, as well as other lives, if you accept the concept that we are Eternal Consciousnesses who occasionally dip back into life in physical form here on Earth.
I believe that we choose to manifest helpful or hurtful behaviors each time our planetary cyclic shifts throw us into unknown states where we are challenged beyond our comfort zones. We may have instincts, but we also can choose in the moment what we will or will not do. That's where the free will part of this life comes in.
That’s why the same chart indicators of a potentially violent psychopath can also yield a Sage, Saint, or Hero once they are transmuted. An opposition can be extreme alienation, or holistic awareness. A septile can yield an ugly obsession, or a grand compulsion of a great task to be done. A planet in any sign can be dysfunctional or a blessing to the world, depending on how the duality of that planet expresses through us.
When trying to make sense of “evil” actions, such as when a psychopath with too many guns and a bad attitude or chemical imbalance in the brain commits mass murder, we have to consider that given the way our “lower triad” hologram is structured, very often human behavior is unconscious when it’s acted out. While we all have patterns in our subconscious mind, we may not know what motivates a given behavior.
Some of these patterns come from past life actions, feelings, and thoughts. Some come from fantasies and illusions learned in this life. In past lives, many people have killed and done other things we consider “evil,” even in so-called “noble causes.”
Then there’s the constant factor of the Collective Unconscious, where all sorts of weird images and thought forms exist. Sometimes people tap into those images, many of which are violent. If there is a center of receptivity in a person’s unconscious mind for violent imagery, they may be moved to act out those images without knowing why they are.
That said, it is also part of our wiring that we can always refuse to indulge violent or hurtful images. And even when we are aware of them, we have the power to refuse to manifest them in actions. Always. Even a psychopath has the power to choose a different way to act.
That’s the brilliance of life in a body on Earth. Regardless of what we have learned or done in this life and past ones, we can always change pattern. Then eventually we find that if it is not in us to commit acts that are “evil,” we will not do them. And we learn to sense the seeds of evil when it is present, and observe how those seeds move into manifestation.
All must be redeemed before we are karmically clean and can become a pure light of Higher Consciousness. That’s why we confront situations where we must consciously choose what to do or not do. By learning to see clearly, taking the high road in the face of potential evil, we antidote that evil in our psychic environment. And of course, the brighter the Light, the darker the shadow when it hits dense objects.
We are all Eternal Beings having human experiences. We have a body, we have our feelings, we have our lower and Higher mind, but we ARE a Soul-Spirit. Our astrological chart shows that we all have certain things to learn, about ourselves, each other, and all that is. The birth chart shows tendencies, but we can choose to follow those instincts or not.
In the moments of interaction with the various sectors of our reality, we choose our actions, feelings, thoughts, and words which are altruistic or not, selfish or not, nasty or not, loving or not. These create future tendencies which will fulfill themselves to whatever degree, and how we respond then will help to shape what is even further down the road, across space and time.
There are some very difficult birth charts; others seem to have it easier. I believe we all have to learn certain lessons in our humanness, and some lives are more active than others. Still, we ALL are on a learning track along one or another lines of realization which we then get to apply throughout our experience on Earth.
Some people are in-breathing (realizing) power, love, wisdom, and intelligence, whereas others are out-breathing, or expressing these. Some are accumulating, some are releasing. Some lives are weak, some are strong, and many are both simultaneously. Most of us alternate between these states of expansion and contraction while moving through life experiences.
We are told that life on Earth is about learning what we must as we move through various experiences that bring us pleasure and pain. Sometimes people don’t have the tools to navigate these states and fall into attachments, aversions, illusions, and pessimistic states of mind. These are the precise moments when we get to choose a higher way, or yield to these sources of suffering.
Again, some actions that we consider “evil” are actually encouraged within certain social contexts. A lot of the evil actions in our world have been learned and approved of in one context, and then when acted out in other contexts are seen to be horrific. That’s why becoming aware of what we’re thinking and feeling and doing is all-important in coming out of ignorance into Awareness, out of darkness into Light, and out of fear into Love.
In part 3, we’ll examine the nature of “evil,” some of its qualities, how we can recognize it, and what we can do when confronting evil.

Hi Robert, thanks for repeating this as I did not see your earlier version. This is a very deep subject. I am new to natal chart interpretation, but have been unsettled by some of the charts I have seen. There are charts so challenging, I have been left wondering how any mortal human being could possibly transmute such energies. I have done a chart for someone with so many difficult aspects, it's like he's walking a tightrope over a live volcano. He's working very hard to transform energies into positive expression, but it's an almighty battle. Such charts are a curse or a gift, depending on how the energy is used. The insights you've offered here are most helpful. I look forward to Part 3.

Hi Zephyr - Well, as I've often stated through the years, I have one of the toughest charts I've ever seen, and somehow came to be somewhat self-aware, altruistic, compassionate, and a dedicated servant of the True, Good, and Beautiful. I have 10 oppositions (4 to Neptune alone!) and 5 squares, some involved in a Fixed T-square and a Hammer of Thor. Yes, my life has been difficult. And blessed. As I've offered for a long time, my chart clearly shows that what does not kill you will make you stronger if you choose carefully. I'm more thoughtful and less presumptuous and impulsive than I was when young, and know for a fact that "you can stand me up at the gates of hell and I won't back down."
