The brilliant pioneering writer and producer Steve Bochco (December 16, 1943 – April 1, 2018) just died. He created "Hill Street Blues," the first show of its kind, imitated by countless other shows but never equaled. A new type of cop show, the lines of hero and villain were blurred, and we learned that the lives of people in the ghetto, good and bad, may not be able to be comfortably judged by ordinary standards. So as he moves into a different dimension, I'll offer him the same immortal line he offered us each week, "let's be careful out there." RIP, friend of "pizza men" everywhere.
