Between about Noon PDT/ 8 pm BST on May 22 and 2 am PDT/10 am on May 23 (Wednesday across Asia) we will have a rare occurrence of an almost perfect Mystic Rectangle involving the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and Neptune, and the supporting aspects are extraordinary! What does this mean?
Let’s begin by defining what a “Mystic Rectangle” is. A regular Rectangle involves 4 planets making two oppositions while also making two sextiles and two trines to each other. They can occur involving any set of planets or Ascendant, as long as these aspects are present. They can even involve planets in signs not ordinarily in sextile or trine to each other, as long as the orb is close enough to define the Rectangle.
A Mystic Rectangle also has 4 planets making two oppositions, two sextiles, and two trines, but one of the planets MUST be the Sun or Moon, and one of the planets MUST be Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, or TransPluto. This provides the linkage of energies from the outermost Transpersonal Spiritual planets to the Lights, the most intimate of our inner planetary matrix.
At Noon PDT on May 22, we see Jupiter at 17 Scorpio making an EXACT trine to Neptune at 17 Pisces. We also see Mercury at 16 Taurus, forming an opposition to Jupiter and sextile to Neptune. As it is at 17 Taurus beginning at 3:30 pm, this creates an exact configuration throwing a perfect void to 17 Virgo, which you’ll recall is “the Volcanic Explosion.”
At Noon PDT on May 22, the Moon is 10 Virgo, close enough to trigger the configuration. For the next 2+ hours, the Ascendant is Virgo, closing the Rectangle after it conjuncts the Moon. Then by 3:30 pm, the Moon is almost 13 Virgo. It continues to make the Mystic Rectangle throughout the afternoon and evening of the 22nd in North America, and during the day in east Asia.
Use Mercury to externalize Jupiter, and Jupiter to externalize Mercury. Use the Moon to externalize Neptune, and Neptune to externalize the Moon. This gives Neptune the ability to express its energies of collective renewal through stability with Jupiter’s focus on “trusting the god within,” using the harmonious Moon trine Mercury in Earth signs to release and renew. This is a very good day to turn away from old ways and old complexes. In fact, it’s exceptionally good for those who have sought understanding before now.
Of course, the “fly in the ointment” is that when the Moon exactly opposes Neptune, it will also sesquisquare Uranus, setting up 3 active points of a “Rhombus Diamond” configuration, with the void in early Scorpio. As you know from previous articles, this is an octile-driven configuration, and is a “cutting, grinding, and polishing” type of energy. It may be frictional, but it “cuts us to perfection” and makes us into a “socially valuable” thing.
Curiously, there are other factors happening during this time that are very important. Venus is at 5 Cancer, showing karmic adjustments are in the air for many. When in doubt, curb your own or another’s recklessness. This is the collapse of that which could argue against the new life we’ve already chosen.
We also see the Sun on the “Santa Claus” symbol in close trine to Mars at 3 Aquarius, “the deserter” who suddenly realizes the fallacy of their conduct in letting a social value or role dominate the life at the expense of the conscience. This is a “turning back,” stepping out of an old socialized role, preparing to claim some form of integrative “healing power” we’ll be exposed to three times between late May and late September.
The voids are very favorable for all those with planets or points in early Fire and Air signs. Great for understanding the creative process, getting inspired by larger “cycles of becoming,” and seeing the dawning of a new day, “showing an utterly transformed world.” What Venus takes away, the Sun replaces abundantly if surreptitiously.
Use the energies of this week wisely! Though the Mystic Rectangle will pass, Mercury will immediately trine Pluto and Jupiter will trine Neptune, so the Venus opposition Saturn should bring us into full awareness of something, with a practical understanding found by seeing what values you’ve been upholding since 2009, or which values you want to uphold in the future. This will be a time of excellent growth. Make the most of it!

Thank you for this heads up. Really, this whole post is precisely what I needed right now.

Dear Robert, this is extremely interesting. How can a person "use" wisely the energy of the mystic rectangle, if it is presented in natal chart? How tight must be the orbs? I have an opposition of Sun (7 aries, house 8) and Pluto (5 Libra, house 2) and Moon (5 Gemini, H10) and Neptune (9 Sag, H4). Are the orbs tight enough to create this mystic rectangle?
Thanks a lot for your insight!
