At a FB astrology site, a question was asked. To paraphrase it, what are the similarities and differences between Gemini and Virgo? That got me to thinking...
I answered that "Gemini is about discovery with no need for order; Virgo is about bringing order to all the discoveries up to that point in the cycle. The former distributes the Earth of Taurus in an ideological form to prepare for the personal emotional shift in Cancer; the latter distributes the Fire of Leo in a practical form to prepare for the ideal interactive shift in Libra.
In the ancient decan rulership, Gemini is composed of Sun, Mars, and Jupiter energies; Virgo is composed of Sun, Mercury, and Venus energies. So it would seem that Gemini is more inherently expansive and outer oriented while Virgo is more personally focused."
There are other factors, such as the modern decan sub-influences, giving both signs Mercury, Venus, and Saturn sub-tones. The difference there is primarily due to the difference between the Air signs and the Earth signs.
Also remember that Gemini is the 10th house from Virgo, and Virgo is the 4th house of Gemini. So Virgo anchors Gemini and gives it a root structure or platform from which to operate. Gemini is the flowering of Virgo's sense of order, with knowledge of many different things and areas of life.
There are other significant differences that arise from their common Mercurial essence. Feel free to contribute in the comment stream!
