Mars in Aquarius Square Uranus in Taurus in September 2018 – Good or Bad?

Several people have remarked that they’ve heard Mars square Uranus is a very bad thing, and we should prepare for bad things on that aspect. I find that an amusing notion.

Why? Because the planets don’t “make anything happen.” We are the ones who are acting, reacting, or being reacted upon. The planets makes every possible angle with each other in their orbits. All aspects show phase relationships between the planets, and as I explain in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend, each planet has its unique “department of labor.” Uranus' department of labor is to revolutionize everything, innovating and renovating everything from the past, renewing it in the NOW in unique and individualized ways. Mars' department of labor is to "attack the problems of life," moving into our future with courage, speed, efficiency, and strategic moves.

While squares often do bring challenging events, they just as often give us a chance to turn a corner on our path to Higher Awareness, turning away from unprofitable directions and behaviors and attitudes toward a more productive focus. A square also shows a departure from an old way of experiencing that cycle, with challenges to shift focus to other more current needs. While the changes can be jarring, they also are necessary if we're on a trajectory that isn't taking us into our Higher Destiny. Everyone needs a change of scenery from time to time.

This Mars square Uranus is particularly dynamic for releasing Uranian energies. That means this is a great time for personal Spiritual Transformation through unusual, unexpected, or metaphysically unique events and realizations. While in general it can indicate power surges, eccentric explosions, and abrupt and unexpected events and responses, it also doesn’t exist in a vacuum and could release your Divine Potential in forms unique to you!

For example, if you have a planet in the early degrees of Earth and Water signs, Uranus has been in a favorable aspect to that planet, and Mars can now release the unique potential you’ve been building since last Spring. Or if you have a planet in the early degrees of Fire and Air signs, Mars is now giving you a great opportunity to use the on-going Uranian energies in productive ways.

As it falls from 2 Aquarius to 2 Taurus, this promises “Cosmic Visitations” that can electrify our existence, and galvanize us to action helping us break free of limiting conditions and attitudes! For some, “spectacular developments” will liberate them from some “adverse condition” by helping them move in new directions, or claim their genius in the direction they’re already moving toward. Use inconveniences to be creative and strengthen your bonds with others, while remembering sometimes it’s better to let go than to hold on.

One thing to keep in mind: often aspects show apparent effects after they are exact. In other words, the exact aspect is not the period when the aspect manifests. It is after it is exact that it manifests, usually through other planetary triggers setting off the previous aspect.

For example, while Mars square Uranus is today, we also have Moon in Capricorn in a favorable aspect to Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune. So we’re having more of a Capricorn experience today than a Mars square Uranus. Tomorrow is an entirely different situation, since the Moon will move into Aquarius around 5 pm PDT Wednesday, and immediately make a conjunction with Mars and square to Uranus, triggering that aspect in much bigger ways than it will be triggered today!

So while being “careful” is always a good thing to be and do, it is just as true that there are points in time when we can break free of old limitations, say goodbye to old memories as new relationships beckon, and be happy playing with those who are our Spiritual Brothers and Sisters. This is one such time.
