New Moon coming Wednesday! Over the next 4 weeks the New Moon in Scorpio will help us to a greater depth and warmth of character, as well as a greater connectedness to our inner faith and outer relationships.
The past month we’ve been doing forms of “repair work,” rebuilding or reconstructing things damaged by past symbolic “storms.” We’re still “putting on the show” and finding “freedom from social rigidity” and “joy of fellowship” as a result of the July and August Solar Eclipses, even if these are happening based in things being removed rather than added to our lives. The coming 4 weeks will synthesize many things from the past.
This is the eleventh New Moon of the Saturn in Capricorn era! That planet continues to be exceptionally important in several ways, through aspects and dispositorship. It continues to play a big part in the ongoing “Bowl” Jones pattern, which I’ll explain later.
This is the fourteenth and last New Moon with Jupiter in Scorpio. It’s on the last degree of that sign, about to enter Sagittarius less than 20 hours after this Lunation. This month it shows us how to blow out unregenerate energy as we move from Jupiter being “cocooned” to “Jupiter unbound! Humor will relieve a lot of pressure.
So What’s Happening?
Today we’ll do an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In part 2 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
This stabilizing, deepening, intensifying, and “reinforcing of faith” New Moon occurs at 16 Scorpio at 8:02 am PST, 11:02 am EST, 4:02 pm GMT on November 7. This will bring us into the Light of a form of faith in action, where we are moved to a deeper union with others, both present and past. While last month’s Libra Lunation had its ruler retrograde in Scorpio, this month its ruler direct in Aquarius trine last month’s ruler (now RX in Libra) will help us transform those reawakened feelings and memories into abstract ideas that help us to a transcendent peace.
In the past 4 months we’ve been through a LOT of retrogrades, and near the end of the run as Venus will go direct and Mercury will go retrograde in a little over a week. We’ve transformed our lives based in events of 2014 and 2016 pointing us in the direction we’ve journeyed in 2018, and let go of, released, or pulled back from many projections this past Summer, and now see many things with different eyes.
We are now approaching the end of the long run of the current “alternate” Sun/Moon relationship which began in late August 2017 when this pattern began. The New Moon before that one, the July 2017 New Moon at 1 Leo was the fifteenth and last in a sequence where the Sun fell in the same sign as the Sun in the next Full Moon. There are two patterns: one with the Sun in the same sign as the Sun in the following Full Moon (New Moon between 1-15 degrees of a sign), and one with the Sun in a different sign than it’s in at the following Full Moon (New Moon between 16-30 degrees of a sign).
We were in the first pattern up to the 2017 Solar Eclipse at 29 Leo, when we shifted to the second (reverse) pattern, since that New Moon Solar Eclipse was followed by a Full Moon with the Sun at 14 Virgo and Moon at 14 Pisces. The past New Moon at 16 Libra set the seed for the following Full Moon with the Sun at 2 Scorpio and the Moon at 2 Taurus. This one at 16 Scorpio will have a Full Moon in about 2 weeks with the Sun at 1 Sagittarius and the Moon at 1 Sagittarius. Since I explain this phenomenon and what it means in the Full Moon articles, you will learn more from consulting recent Full Moon articles.
The New Moons and Full Moons are “God’s footprints in time.” Each shows the next in the 12 phases of how things come to be each year. The cycle could be described as follows: Life energy is initiated in Aries, substantiated in Taurus, explored in Gemini, grounded in Cancer, renewed and creatively expressed in Leo, refined and ordered in Virgo, balanced and made pleasing in Libra, purified and focused in Scorpio, expanded in Sagittarius, organized in Capricorn, solidified into a vision in Aquarius, and ended/perpetuated in Pisces.
An Overview of the New Moon
We have now entered a time when the inner planets are closing in the year cycle and re-entering the outer planet occupied hemispheric zone between Jupiter and Uranus. Venus in late Libra leads the inner planets, followed by the Sun in mid Scorpio and Mercury in early Sagittarius. This finishes many months of inner planets occupying the empty zone between Gemini and Libra.
As the inner planets all move into the occupied span between Jupiter in Scorpio and Uranus in Taurus (now about to be Jupiter in early Sag with Uranus already in late Aries), we’ll have predominately a Bowl Jones pattern. The only time we won’t have one is when the Moon is between late Gemini and mid-Virgo. This won’t shift until next July, when Mercury and Mars in Leo will again form a Locomotive pattern, opening the front end with Jupiter in Sag closing it. If you want to know more about that, use the site search box and it’ll take you to an archived article about the Locomotive.
As Jupiter is the entry planet to the hemisphere occupied by the outer planets, we are now at the end of a year of managing Scorpio energy skillfully to achieve best momentum into using the outer planet spiritual energies to shape our long term future. In this chart, its “expansive Scorpio” influence is squared by its ruler Mars and quincunx Uranus which has just re-entered Aries. So the axis of the “Tension of Opposites” has shifted from Taurus-Scorpio back to Aries-Libra for this New Moon!
This New Moon will jumpstart Scorpio energy wherever it falls in our chart, so purify, eliminate, concentrate, refocus, and take a look at what you’re attracting. If it’s good, accept it, bless it, and have gratitude for it. If you don’t want it, reverse your magnetism and don’t allow yourself to continue that pattern. As Scorpio pierces through the form to get to the essence, just make sure you don’t overshoot the mark and go past what you’re looking for.
So What Rules the Lunation?
This New Moon in Scorpio has Mars as the worldly ruler and Pluto as the spiritual ruler of both the Sun and Moon. Because is in Aquarius, it’s ruled by Saturn in its home sign of Capricorn, which makes Saturn the final dispositor of the Lunation.
Mercury in Sag is ruled by Jupiter, which is ruled by Mars, which is ruled by Saturn; Venus is in its home sign of Libra, and thus is its own final dispositor; is ruled by Venus; Uranus is ruled by Mars and thus by Saturn, and Neptune, as always, continues to occupy its home sign of Pisces, and so rules itself. So we’ve moved from October’s 2 final dispositors (Saturn and Neptune) for all the other planets to the current 3 final dispositors (Venus, Saturn, and Neptune).
As you can see, Saturn continues to be a major stage manager for a lot of what’s going on! This will last until the middle of November when Uranus is in its last encore in Aries and Mars is at the end of Saturn-ruled Aquarius, except for the brief period during the first week of November when Uranus was in Taurus and Venus was back in its home sign of Libra.
So the Lunation and all the other planets are ruled by Venus, Saturn and Neptune, the last of which continues as a “standalone” dispositor of itself, ruling the fogs and mists of the current collective consciousness. You can find out more about dispositors in general, chains of dispositors, and mutual reception by going to dispositors and Mutual Reception at the link.
The Grand Irrationality
The reason this section is a recurring feature in the Lunation articles is because it was set into long term play by the 2011 Solar Eclipse, as well as subsequent Solar Eclipses whose influence continues. These effects are triggered each time any transiting planet occupies any of the 7 zones of the Grand Irrationality. Since then it’s been reinforced and triggered by various Lunations, planetary stations, and transits.
It’s been triggered in quite a few past Lunations, including the 2017 Solar Eclipse in Pisces and the August 2018 Solar Eclipse in Leo as well as the Mercury direct station that month. Because that Solar Eclipse activated the configuration, we are in for even more major choices and changes over the next few years, which will certainly keep things dynamic, if unstable!
This configuration is set into motion by any conjunction with or septile-series aspect to Neptune or Pluto. In this chart, Neptune and Pluto are not in septile, but Jupiter has been septile Pluto and is now biseptile Neptune, setting things into motion again, but without the triseptile to Uranus that created such radical, unpredictable and revolutionary twists and turns of the past several weeks!
Uranus is now separating from its long biseptile with Pluto, but it’s triggered any time a planet makes a 7th harmonic aspect to either Uranus or Pluto, so it’s not like it’s not still in regular play. Uranus biseptile Pluto puts us squarely in a time of even weirder events than we’ve come to know during the Grand Irrationality of the past 25 years. This biseptile will be associated with “extraordinary irrationality,” and is fairly exact over the next few months, so get ready for a lot of irrational events affecting all of us. Things may not make sense, but they don’t have to. We just have to learn to navigate with a steady hand and an eye for abrupt changes.
This means we can’t relax too much as we navigate the “forks in the road of destiny” in the near future. Both the Grand Irrationality AND the Uranus biseptile Pluto gets triggered every few weeks by transits, and of course the Moon triggers both of these 7 times each month. Each time there’s a transit to any of the 7 zones made by Neptune or Pluto septile series aspects, it profoundly affects those with a planet or angle in any of the 7 “hot zones” defining the phenomenon.
For those who are new to the site, here’s a bit of explanation about this thing called “the Grand Irrationality” associated with why everything continues to be so weird. As I’ve explained many times before, the Grand Irrationality is a long wave non-rational influence that has put everyone on Earth on the unceasing edge of major choice and change.
Everyone has been confronting inner compulsions, continual choices that seem to have a major impact on our destiny, and occasionally irrational behaviors in others or external conditions. It is why things seem to have an unending hard edge, why so many choices are continually thrown in our faces that require immediate attention, and why reason seems to fail at critical moments of decision.
When the Grand Irrationality is in play, it’s a time when things don’t have to make sense. We’ve been living with it for about 25 years, and it will be active for a couple more years to come, even though we’ve begun to be on the far side of the original Neptune/Pluto relationship that created it.
Even as that one wanes, we shouldn’t be lulled into a false sense of complacency! The original continues due to past Solar Eclipses, and V.2. created by Uranus biseptile Pluto is amping it up in a huge way. It shouldn’t be any surprise that we’re seeing continued global craziness and irrational behavior, so stay alert!
Because late Autumn through mid-Spring brings Neptune into a close septile with Pluto, during those months the configuration acts as a simultaneous “pulse” that activates Neptune and Pluto at the same time. However, as we get into late Spring through mid-Autumn, we experience a lag in how Neptune and Pluto operate, since they’re out of the septile and again approach the sextile they made from 1942-1995. This will become more evident in the Spring.
The current degree spans that trigger this transformative mass configuration are around 29 Aries-3 Taurus, 21-25 Gemini, 12-16 Leo, 4-8 Libra, 25-29 Scorpio, 17-21 Capricorn, and 8-12 Pisces. If you have a planet or angle in any of these zones, you are making critical choices and decisions that will alter your future in important ways. This event requires that we allow what’s been stuffed down to come up to the surface of our lives, and see how we can allow use the available power wisely.
As you can see, Uranus is pulled into the configuration as it gets further into Taurus, so even when Neptune makes a constant sextile to Pluto by this time next year, we’ll be in the thick of Uranus biseptile Pluto, which will mark a time of some very wild rides! Neptune will continue to move forward out of the Pisces zone, but Uranus will have begun its non-stop occupancy of the Taurus zone nonstop by the Spring of 2019.
Speaking of Uranus…
Remember that through the end of this year, as well as 2019, Uranus is teaching us to listen to our inner voice to find our place in the Cosmic Choir. This awakened in July 2017, and was part of the spiritual training the Grand Fires Trines stimulated in our charts.
We’ve all been learning to “sing our song” within a greater harmony symbolized by the Cosmic Choir. This has meant changes in both who we’ve been singing with as well as songs being sung in different life contexts. Remember that in any choir, there are times to sing unisons, times to sing harmonies, times to sing solo, and times not to sing at all. Even when we’re not singing, we’re still part of the choir. What is your part to sing? Be as clear as you can about what you can offer to the harmony of the whole, and keep training to bring it forth!
The April New Moon in Aries put the focus squarely on that part of our spiritual training, and the May New Moon featured Uranus at the all-important last degree of Aries, helping us to awaken to the need to limit our field of effective activity to enjoy doing what we do.
The June New Moon had Uranus in Taurus at the degree of the electrical storm, so many things have been electrified in a dramatic way the past several weeks. In July, Uranus occupied the degree of its August 7 station all month into mid-September. By the October New Moon it was back at 2 Taurus, giving us all various types of “Cosmic Visitation.”
Due to the ongoing biseptile from Uranus to Pluto, we've entered what I term "The Grand Irrationality V.2,” also known as the Grand Irrationality on steroids! The widespread irrationality is in full swing, but with a harder edge than Neptune septile Pluto since Uranus is also semisquare Neptune while biseptile Pluto, adding a very frictional "cutting and grinding" quality to the collective field.
TGI V.2 is front and center now through November, and then except for a few weeks in August-September 2019, the Uranus biseptile Pluto will be in full sway between May 2019 and December 2019 and then again March through June 2020 and Nov 2020 through April 2021. This chapter of global craziness won't be going away anytime soon, so get your navigational skills in shape to ride this storm out!
Neptune and Chiron in Pisces and Aries
I have offered this segment each month for years to give you a broader perspective on the collective atmosphere, and the long wave changes humanity is going through. Because Neptune has been in Pisces for about 7 years, we’ve been navigating through the threshold of an entirely new era that will not resemble the old Age in any way within just a few decades. We’re already solidly in the Dreamscape, as many old ways end while we learn to maneuver the field.
The last half of 2011 helped many break out of their "chrysalis" and transform their lives and relationships. If you want to know what's coming for many years to come, take a look back at the intuitions and sense of belonging to a vaster interrelated whole you were shown in Spring and Summer of 2011. It may help to give a sense of our collective lesson in dissolving our separateness as we finish this transition through "the Winter of the 21st Century" on our way to Spring, beginning in 2025!
Chiron
In this chart, Chiron is retrograde at 29 Pisces. Before this period, Chiron was not in this “face” of Pisces since 1966-1968. This degree shows our mentoring and/or healing into our Higher Self involves both enlarging the vision and narrowing the focus as things fall apart. It is a degree of separating the wheat from the chaff, the living germ of the future and the husks of old forms.
Because it’s moving between the end of Pisces and beginning of Aries, it’s now moving between “the end of the end” and “the beginning of the beginning,” implying that we are being healed into our Higher Self by saying goodbye to some things and saying hello to others.
Jupiter and Uranus transited this span several times in 2010-2011, and what was awakened then and since then has prepared us for the current opportunities to heal or be mentored into our individuality. The vision or the new truth and future which led to a personal revolution then can now be the source of us being mentored, or us mentoring others.
Chiron is now squarely in the transition zone between late Pisces and early Aries! Chiron entered Aries for the first time in this era on April 17, 2018, marking a new period of Chironic healing energies. At the Solar Eclipse in Cancer, it was still on the same degree where it went SRX in early July. It’s now retrograded back through 2 Aries to 1 Aries, and re-entered Pisces on September 25.
It will go SD at 28 Pisces in December, re-enter Aries on February 18, 2019, and make its next pass over its stationary degree at 3 Aries in April 2019. Once it re-enters Aries on February 18, it will remain in Aries until 2026 when it enters Taurus.
With Chiron at the end of Pisces and beginning of Aries in 2018, we are now in an important position in space-time, since we must fully embrace compassion, forgiveness, and a vast understanding of ourselves as Spirits having human experiences. And to be human is to be flawed. Those flaws provide the spur for us to overcome them by transmuting them into strengths and skills that serve a higher purpose in our lives.
Chiron now reminds us that even though we have been mentored into the future, and already “identified with a larger life” in some way, we’re doing our last review of our expectations, hopes and dreams to come once an old life has been blessed, forgiven, and laid to rest. Keep your focus on how things fall apart at the end of long cycles even as new forms and views present themselves. We had a long mentoring in learning closure rituals during the time Chiron was in Pisces between February 2011 and April 2018, and much that we let go of created space for the new life emerging since then.
We have been shown how to bless a lot as it flows down the time stream. We’ve been taught how to let go of dogmas, let go of beliefs that have us stuck in ambivalence or suffering, and we’ve healed by having compassion for ourselves and the suffering we share with the world. Now we heal by living in the NOW, embracing the new life with humor and a sense that we’re being led to identify with a larger Life and collective work.
As Chiron passes through late Pisces, it heralds what will be “dreamed into collective consciousness” by Neptune these next 7 years. Chiron transits help each of us heal anew through our positioning within collective consciousness. When in Pisces, we were mentored in Piscean ways. When in Aries, we are finding ways to mentor and be mentored in Aries, healing into our higher Self by moving into direct action, securing our initial position in the new Life, leading to a vision of a larger role to play in the future as an inspiration to others.
Neptune
Neptune shows us how to merge the sacred and the everyday in our lives. Over the past several years, we have heard a call to a life renewal, dumped excess and unnecessary baggage to quicken the pace to achieve some social goal, been offered higher responsibilities, and been shown what spiritual goals we’re fit to accomplish. We’ve also been shown the need for courage and a focused will, as well as the need for a “camouflage” as we let go of appearances and focus on true necessities. We now have received a new inspiration, and begun a long term collective renewal
2017 completed our realizations of these lessons, and prepared us to move forward. This chart has Neptune retrograde at 14 Pisces, the degree it first transited between April and August 2017, and again in Feb-March 2018. 14 Pisces is the degree where it will go stationary direct in just a few weeks, setting a platform for launching into unknown zones in 2019.
It hasn’t been in this part of Pisces since 1854-56; the themes of 14 Pisces involve "the use of intelligence and mental subtlety as a protection against storms and trials." This is a technique of using spiritual will, courage, cleverness, and adaptability to move through the trials of life, where we need protective "camouflage" to keep us safe from unnecessary hardships. Get your protective shields in place and don’t take unnecessary risks.
Find and use techniques to display your assets while still hiding from hurtful elements. Here we intuit how to find a style we can live with, and find those who think as we do so we all can find ways this contributes to our experience creatively.
Remember too that numerous Solar Eclipses in Pisces are still in effect. We had Eclipses at 30, 19, and 9 Pisces, all of which also had Neptune in Pisces. These have had a profound effect on the field of the collective consciousness, as well as the collective unconscious. Given Neptune is the spiritual ruler of Pisces, it’s also been involved in the eclipses at Virgo 21 and 10 by opposition, creating a “Tension of Opposites” that profoundly impacted the collective spiritual field.
The March 2015 Solar Eclipse at 30 Pisces helped us get very clear about the new “law of life” we yearned for, and sent out the thought form that created the life we’ve led since then. The March 2016 Solar Eclipse at 19 Pisces helped us “take a walk with our wisdom,” beginning the release of all things that would impede our receptivity to that wisdom. The March 2017 Solar Eclipse in Pisces continues to assist us in releasing the last baggage we no longer need over the next few years.
So Neptune is now “dreaming” into collective consciousness the same themes Chiron introduced to us between 2014-2015. As you can see, both Neptune and Chiron have been taking us into a far vaster collective healing and mentoring than we’ve known in many decades. Collectively, we’re now solidly in a newer spiritual realm, where our ego minds have been introduced to a deeper and vaster Soul realm and our testing has begun.
Because Neptune already entered the second half of Pisces, where it hasn’t been since 1855-57, it indicates that collective consciousness in 2018-2020 is in a zone filled with turmoil historically. Given Pluto is also in a zone where it last was in 1772, it would seem a “pre-revolution” is in the air!
The North Node
We’ve now left the North Node in Leo and South Node in Aquarius era which began in May 2017, and entered the NN in Cancer and SN in Capricorn era. When the NN is in Cancer, our greatest development is through our ability to be tender, caring, and nurturing of all that we feel close to. This is where we learn through the “Mother principle,” and use “enlightened self-interest” to gather what we need to make our lives more secure. Because the SN is in Capricorn, we will demonstrate these qualities through being mature and responsible, organized and willing to work to demonstrate our personal skills in forms of social power.
The North Node in the last decan of Cancer brings a specific focus to the Pisces qualities of the sign of Cancer. This will bring forth more compassion and understanding, with less clutching and more of a sense of the timeless feeling factors that unite all of us in very personal ways.
These will express through the South Node in the Virgo decan of Capricorn. This should help us express our emotional growth through taking care of the details of a given thing, or at least paying attention to many small things that are necessary for the completeness of the growth of our emotional intelligence.
Summing Up
I’ll close today by reminding you that we’ve been through a long period of Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and now Venus being retrograde, when things have been slow, at times seeming to reverse course. We spent June, July, and August finding a new plan or new way to do something, or finding a way to undo or re-doing something that wasn’t done right before now, and expunging any lurking resentment or frustration that things aren’t as we wanted. We pulled back from old projections, and now can move forward with the ability to read meaning in things we couldn’t before.
We’re now done figuring out more efficient ways to do things, and why certain methods haven’t been working up to now. The best benefit of the past Summer was our ability to get at anything in our subconscious mind which self-sabotages our efforts, as well as seeing passive-aggressive parts of ourselves that need expunging. We’ve looked back at old relationships, and reconnected with a lot of memories, some of which are no doubt fond while others no doubt need to be expunged.
This one brings the return of our need to figure out the area of our best focus, and how to use a sense of restriction to bring for a contentment with who we are and what we’re here to do. This one can bring us “transcendent security” beyond the dualities of mundane existence, and we can find “warmth of feeling” which enables us to extend the scope and depth of our relationships with others. This can be an excellent time to synthesize all that has happened into a coherent overview of what is, and what will be.
Besides the radical energies of the Grand Irrationality V.2 discussed earlier, we have a host of other aspects going on which I’ll discuss in part 2, including a huge number of specializing aspects. We also have Venus stimulating a third point in a “Rhombus Diamond” configuration. As I’ve explained this past year, Uranus semisquare Neptune has created the foundation of some very frictional “cutting, grinding, and polishing” energies every time it’s triggered by an octile-series aspect. Last month we had a perfect Rhombus Diamond again, which created a LOT of friction, which I’ll explain in the next article.
Last year’s Solar Eclipses in Pisces and Leo, and this year’s Eclipses in Aquarius, Cancer and Leo have quickened us, and we’ve been eliminating a lot of expectancies, considerations, and excess baggage. We continue to dump all kinds of old ghosts and elements of pride that would hinder our hearts from its authentic self-expression, and are getting clear about our priorities and what we should and should not expect of ourselves and others. Since the recent Eclipses, we’ve hit the end of an old quest, attained some ambition, and now are learning a new freedom and togetherness.
Things may seem divided and polarized and often things won’t make much sense, but nothing has to make sense. The only thing that matters is us finding power despite the imbalances through seeing things from a higher and broader spiritual angle, and then consciously letting go of preconceptions and patterns of acting that no longer serve us. We have hidden abilities and helpers if we choose to look for them and bring them to focused function. Make the most of the time you have!
See you soon with part 2, which will cover Sabian Symbols, Jones patterns, element distribution, and a whole lot more!
