At 6:20 pm PST on December 31, 2:20 am GMT on January 1, Mars will enter Aries. What does this mean?
It means that how we generally “attack the problems of life,” or how we “take the initiative” is now expressed through the fiery initiatives and self-starting energies of Aries. This heralds the coming Sun entering Aries at the Equinox on March 20 at 2:59 pm PDT which will bring Light and Life to those things Mars initiates in January and early February 2019.
Mars continues to accelerate, having danced between late Capricorn and mid-Aquarius between April and October 2018, helping us navigate deep feeling waters and achieve closure during its time in Pisces in November and December. Now that it’s entering Aries, we can expect a lot more energy helping facilitate direct action. Just beware of impatience and firing before aiming!
Mars in Aries also means that any planets or angles we have in Aries or Scorpio have moved out of an watery expression into a fiery expression. This also impacts the houses where we have these signs, and puts a huge focus of activity in the house where we have early Aries.
While Mars was in Pisces, it brought new beginnings to those with Sun or Ascendant in Pisces, and new emergent developments to those with Sun or Ascendant in Sagittarius. It put the focus on relationships to those with Sun or Ascendant in Virgo, and fulfillment to those with Sun or Ascendant in Gemini.
In the coming weeks, it will bring new beginnings to those with Sun or Ascendant in Aries, and new emergent developments to those with Sun or Ascendant in Capricorn. It puts the focus on relationships to those with Sun or Ascendant in Libra, and fulfillment to those with Sun or Ascendant in Cancer.
While Mars now initiates a new time of activity wherever we have Aries, as noted this will be vitalized and “lived out in the real world” beginning on the March Equinox. Still, because Venus is the “closer” these days, lagging behind the other inner planets, we may not appreciate or see the value of our Mars in Aries experience until late April or May, when Venus transits Aries.
This begins a new cycle of expression related to what we learned or embraced as a greater life path when Jupiter was in Aries between Jun 2010 and June 2011. That larger cycle of Jupiter in Aries energy was set into motion by the Mars conjunct Jupiter cycle that began at 23 Aries in May 2011, renewed in March-April 2013 with Mars’ next pass through Aries, again in Feb-March 2015, and renewed yet again in Feb-March 2017 during the last pass of Mars through Aries. This pass of Mars in its home sign reactivates the Jupiterian promise of 2011, with the very harmonious trine from Venus conjunct Jupiter in mid-Sag to Mars in mid-Aries promising great blessings beginning mid-January 2019!
That means all the truths, potentials, opportunities, and visions of the future we had during the period between June 2010 and June 2011 revisited in 2013, 2015, and 2017 can now be acted upon in new ways, or ways that renew that pulse. It will also bring completion on those things ruled by that conjunction.
Once Mars passes 14 Aries, it lower (waxing) squares Saturn, marking a new chapter in their cycle which began in April 2018 putting the theme of overcoming fear front and center for all of us since then. The coming season will show us the dance of yin and yang in the world helping us to a perspective of what’s enduring and what needs eliminating, with a need to adjust to the rhythms of nature, finding time for rest and recuperation as we find a vaster wisdom, fearlessness, and “permanence in Truth.”
Of some extraordinary importance will be when Mars conjuncts Uranus at 30 Aries in February 2019, since it will activate a new phase of “singing in the Cosmic Choir” for all of us. Those who willingly accept a certain focus limiting their field of activity while allowing them to play on their “duck pond” with others who also want to play will find great contentment and potential for achievement. This will activate our genius or a new type of individualization wherever we have 30 Aries.
Mars in Aries is in its “home sign,” so we will experience Mars in its most natural fiery expression. Once Mars enters Taurus in mid-February, it will activate the promise of the Jupiter in Taurus era of June 2011-2012 which was first triggered by Mars in April-May 2013, and renewed in April-May 2015 and March-April 2017. However, since Mars is in “exile” while in Taurus, we will have to learn to redirect the energies toward finding enjoyment as we ground the initiatives of Mars in Aries.
Anyway, after last year’s Mars retrograde, we should be moving forward in all Mars’ dominated areas of our charts and lives. This also moves the emphasis away from Water and into Fire, adding warmth and inspiration to our efforts. And as I offer you in the Lunation articles, Fire and Water are “hot” elements, and volatile. So this continues a period of very active feelings, with creativity and inspiration available to all who want to open their hearts via the Fire trines throwing intensely favorable voids into Leo!
