From time to time we have a cluster of powerful and important aspects going on. We’re entering an intense week ahead!
Sun conjunct Pluto
First up, Sun conjunct Pluto at 21 Capricorn on January 11! This begins the next Solar year of “enlightened Pluto” energy, or alternatively, “the Light of the Underworld.” This happens every year, and launches profound purifying energy into our world affecting all of us wherever this conjunction falls in our charts.
Though transit to transit aspects should not be taken personally, I have no doubt this is vitalizing the Plutonic energy of Capricorn will teach us elements of cooperation within some sort of group setup. This is intensifying something in the house where we have 21 Capricorn, and sprouting seeds of yet another “practical intensification” in that part of our lives. Obviously, planets in harmony with 21 Capricorn can be favorably purified or made more efficient in some way, while planets in friction with 21 Capricorn will either be challenged, or be our bulwark to external events symbolized by Sun conjunct Pluto.
Mercury conjunct Saturn and Jupiter square Neptune
Next in the sequence of aspects, Sunday brings us Mercury conjunct Saturn and Jupiter square Neptune! The former will bring us signs, signals, and understanding related to the Sun/Saturn conjunction of the Western New Year’s Day at 12 Capricorn. That conjunction will illuminate themes of exploring natural law so we understand how natural processes work out in the world.
However, Mercury conjunct Saturn at 13 Capricorn introduces themes of self-transcendence into the mix. This can serve to help us concentrate and be organized when it comes to sending or receiving information, and make clear what we have to leave behind. Both the Sun and Mercury conjuncting Saturn herald what we will learn to value or “capture” or “give birth to” when Venus crosses these points in the second week of February.
Now Jupiter square Neptune. This is a long wave aspect, and being the upper (waning) square, shows we’ve hit a culmination phase in the Jupiter/Neptune cycle which began at their triple conjunction in 2009. Those occurred at 25 and 27 Aquarius, transforming our ideals since then in the life area(s) where we have late Aquarius in our chart.
This aspect has been and will be with us for a while, and tests our ability to keep connected with others and our own sense of direction. If there has been a sense of drifting or not knowing the bigger picture or where things are going on the macro level, realize there are many things about this phase which won’t be clear until after it’s over in September when they again square from 17 Sag to 17 Pisces.
This square falls at the 15th degree of their respective signs, so try to exchange information to make sure what you’re thinking or seeing is actually that. As Jupiter also simultaneously is semisquare Uranus at this time, there is more than the usual agitation in the air, with confusion and “misfirings” going on. That’s why so much is unclear and sputtering in the public sphere. This is the first of three squares this year, with the next one at 19 Sag to Pisces in June.
This is primarily affecting those with planets in the middle degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sag, and Pisces, as well as the last degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn and the first few degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. I explain more about this generic friction in the atmosphere at every New and Full Moon, and Jupiter’s transit merely amps up the energy, bringing things to culmination in the area where we have Jupiter transiting in our chart.
Mercury sextile Neptune and Venus trine Mars
Monday’s Mercury sextile Neptune helps us with seeing clearly what’s going on in the collective, providing us a productive means to build on the Jupiter square Neptune to know what’s going on despite the cross currents of that huge aspect. Show care, and remember your final insights during this time will mean more than your initial ones. If things are unclear, feel your way through the fogs and confusion, and you’ll see what’s necessary and what’s superfluous or irrelevant.
For the next week, we have a Venus trine Mars forming in the run up to Venus conjunct Jupiter and Mars trine Jupiter. This will lighten and brighten every planet we have in the early and middle degrees of the Fire and Air signs, so whatever is new, inspiring, opening, or offers a greater freedom of understanding and action, go for it! This should bring harmony in relationships, as well as planets and houses ruled by Aries, Taurus, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
As the trines and conjunction fall after Jupiter square Neptune, it shows that whatever is “turned” by that square will have a beneficial outcome. Also, in evolutionary dynamics, Mercury builds Neptune and vice versa through the sextile, which can be released through the Jupiter square. Add that the Fire conjunction and trines build Jupiter energy which can be released through Neptune, and we have an ability to open many possibilities despite the generic confusion in the atmosphere!
Mercury conjunct Pluto and Sun square Uranus
Also on January 18th, we find Mercury conjuncting Pluto and Sun square Uranus. Mercury following the Sun and making the same aspects a few days later indicates that “mind is following life,” so pay attention to the Solar manifestations if you want to know the mental “offspring” which will result from that vitalization. This can give flashes of insight into the core of things, or seeds of events to come.
Sun square Uranus shows powerhouses at crosscurrents, bringing their old conjunction cycle from 2018 to fulfillment. As the square falls from the last degree of Capricorn to the last degree of Aries, it represents the culmination of the energies of both signs. This square opens the door to understanding what we venerate and want to preserve, as well as a clever understanding and the ability to “read meaning” in objects and events which transcend normal logic processes.
4 points of a Great Octile!
As per what I wrote about Jupiter square Neptune and sesquisquare Uranus, it also indicates the Sun will semisquare Neptune at this time, followed by a semisquare to Jupiter later this month. That means we have 4 planets spanning half the zodiac in an octile-driven configuration in middle and late January, with Jupiter in mid-Sag, Sun in late Cap, Neptune in mid-Pisces, and Uranus in late Aries! As I’ve described in the Lunation articles, this is a “cutting, grinding, and polishing” type of configuration, but if you see the bigger picture, don’t get needlessly detached or explode sideways due to nervous tension, you’ll be able to bring your 2018 activities to fulfillment in high style this month.
And there you have your “cosmic weather report” for the middle of January 2019! Enjoy navigating the tides, and remember this is actually an inspired time if you don’t play to the scattered confusion and constant distractions of this period. Again, those with planets in Leo will come to great harmony, with a great promise from Sagittarius and the needed power from Aries. This will harmonize planets in Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius with strong productivity and occasional interactive gifts and blessings, so make the most of it!

Thanks, Robert, love these! Dealing with hyperactive Gemini energy (Asc, Venus & Mars) seems to be my challenge these days. Waddayagonnado, it's always something
