A truly great one passed yesterday. Paul Krassner (April 9, 1932 – July 21, 2019) was an author, journalist, comedian, and founder and editor of the prototypical satiric political humor magazine, The Realist in 1958. He co-founded the YIPPIES, was a Merry Prankster, hung with Lenny Bruce and edited his autobiography How To Talk Dirty and Influence People. I had the pleasure of producing and directing a television show of one of his gigs during the Iran-Contra era. He was a very funny man, and punctured the government BS with great good humor. You can find out more about his life and work by going to Paul Krassner's website. I sure hope Groucho wasn’t right and Paul wasn't “the last living Lenny Bruce.” May his satire yield hundreds more with the same irreverence and wit. See you on the flip side, hip guy.
Amen.
Krassner's story of how he met Groucho can be accessed from BOINGBOING, linked on the bottom of Krassner's site.
May his journey be onward and upward and furthur!
