A dear friend who is part of our greater astrological community was murdered last night. It has devastated all of us, and reminded me of a song I wrote in March 1983 on hearing of the murder of someone in the Austin arts community. This is a grim song and an honest question. I changed a few words since this post is for Ray. For your consideration, “Why?”
Why?
I knew a dear friend who was murdered today,
Why did he have to die?
Someone who wanted to enjoy life
In the sunshine and clear blue sky
Why oh why can’t the violent learn
To stop making good people cry?
And with all the questions I ask myself
The one that stays with me is why?
Why would some want to hurt another?
That’s a damn stupid thing to do
And why is there suffering on Earth today
For me as well as you?
Why does our country still want war
Where we can wave the red white and blue?
And why do we believe that it can’t change?
Because you know that’s just not true.
Why have the governments sold us out
By teaching us to be unkind?
And why have we sold each other out
When we’re all of one humankind?
Why would some want to hurt another
For satisfaction they’ll never find?
And why can’t the races rise above the brute?
Have our hearts become that blind?
I know we can turn it all around
Oh why oh why can’t we?
Because life on Earth could be a paradise
Where we could all be free
Why oh why can’t we start today?
You know it starts with you and me
It begins when we learn to love each other
Unconditionally
It begins when we find that inner peace
That sets our spirits free.
I'm so sorry for your loss. :''(

Sorry for your loss. Any life that is taken away by violence is a huge loss.
Blessings be you, your friend and his loved ones.

Robert, and the greater Astrological Community, Sending Condolences to all of you on the loss of your friend, He now rests in peace in the gentle arms of Our Father whom art in Heaven.
Robert the song, is truly beautiful and so reminds me of what a priest told me years ago when I was questioning the meaning of heaven and hell, He Remarked " Beverly, the kingdom of heaven and Hell is within us" this led to identifying the character flaws that prevented me from practicing unconditional Love towards self and the world, many of us want what your song suggests, our souls crave unity, Thank you for carrying this needed message, progress, not perfection is still being implemented. Again My deepest Sympathy of the tragic and unnecessary loss of your friend, take time to grieve as much time as you need. Thank You for sharing with me. Beverly Bradford
