Yes, today would have been the 125th birthday of the Master, Dane Rudhyar.
Dane Rudhyar (born Daniel Chennevière, March 23, 1895 – September 13, 1985) was born in Paris, France. He was a gifted pianist, composer, philosopher, and the first one to amalgam Holistic philosophy, Humanistic Psychology, and Astrology, creating the field of Humanistic Astrology. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I’ll merely offer you two links. The first is to something I wrote about him, the second is to the official Rudhyar Archival Project site.
As I make obvious, his work has my utmost respect. While they’re a bit beyond the basic level, anyone who studies anything he wrote is better off for the effort. He was a profound influence on my life and work, and I consider him one of the greatest in the pantheon of Astrologers across history.
I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions, and even had a chance to dialog with him privately when I was awarded one of the first copies of “The Sun is Also A Star” at the time it was first published. We spoke about my work with the septile and novile series aspects, since my curiosity was first piqued by a 1938 magazine article he had written which launched me into my studies of those spiritual aspects.
He asked me to send him a copy of that article, as well as my first book, Astrology and the Spiritual Path, since in that work I fleshed out the concepts of the septile and novile series aspects, gave them appropriate glyphs, and took his work into a larger dimension of aspect integration. So 40 years after his original article, it came back to him via my own work on the subject. (Here I’ll note that a book of the same name that came out 2 years after mine. That book has nothing to do with "the spiritual path" as I know it, even if they inadvertently used my title.)
Here I’ll add that while my book has long been out of print, I’ve fleshed out the concepts originally offered in that book in my article The Spiritual Aspect Series – The Novile, Septile, and Elftile Harmonic Aspects and their Glyphs. After that, I did another article which went into an in-depth explanation of Astrological Aspects – The Septile Series, Destiny and Fate. If you’re interested in these Spiritual aspect series, please check out the articles just linked.
To learn more about Dane Rudhyar, here’s something I wrote some time back. It is rich with material that provides some metaphysical context for the man and his works, and has various links inside it that will take you to an extensive biography, as well as the Rudhyar Archival Project.

Thank you for living your Dharma, and bringing your amazing insights and philosophy to humanity. You are one of the greatest Astrological and metaphysical lights to walk this Earth, and you’ve opened the doors to 10,000 astrologers and philosophers to stretch the boundaries of imagination so we all can integrate Astrology, psychology, metaphysics, and spirituality.
You worked within an old inertia to create new doors of perception. Then you created a new inertia which can serve as a crucible for an infinite exploration of the metaphysics of the cyclic structure of human existence within a galactic frame of reference.
An Aries exemplar of a pioneer who blazed a trail walked by countless people, you’ve affected countless millions and will continue to affect countless more. Not bad for a life on Earth. I’d say your Monadic intention was fulfilled beyond your wildest imagination. Thank you, my Aries Brother. The mystery of Fire, indeed!!
