Today we take a new look at how the aspects between our planets, as well as those in the sky, set up various resonant void points triggered by countless transits.
I last gave this to you about 3 years ago, and have rewritten and added pages to the material. As you can surmise, today will be a short introduction to the subject of aspects and resonance points, since that would be an entire chapter in a very big book! That said, let’s take a look at how various aspects in our chart open up major trigger points in unoccupied areas. By knowing what’s triggered and when, we have the ability to express our energies in positive ways.
How Trines Set Up Resonant Points
We begin with a well-known example, the trine. I have a trine from 11 Leo to 12 Aries. That is its own dynamic, but it is triggered in major ways by progressions and transits to points not in Aries or Leo. For example, that trine opens up harmonic resonant points at 11 and 12 Sagittarius, where understanding is solidified, stabilized, and/or expressed.
Taking this further, if there is a progression or transit at 11-12 Libra, then an opposition-sextile-trine is set up, throwing a very favorable void to 11-12 Aquarius. The same occurs with a planet transiting 11-12 Aquarius, which throws the favorable void to 11-12 Libra. In the former, the “tensional awareness” is along the Aries/Libra axis, with the Leo point the harmonizer of that tension of opposites. In the latter, the tensional awareness is along the Leo-Aquarius axis, with the Aries point the harmonizing energy.
I also have a trine from 12 Aries to 18 Leo, and 24 Aries to 18 Leo. These trines expand the zone of operation in each case, and create a significant number of voids related to these degrees and the mid-points involved. One major midpoint is at 18 Aries, and another at 14 Leo. In practical terms, there are a sequence of trines triggered as planets move through 12-24 Sagittarius, with each trine triggering its own unique understanding or harmonization related to the natal Aries and Leo energy.
How Squares Generate Resonant Points
We can apply the same principles to a square. I have a square from 14 Aquarius to 14 Taurus. That also is its own dynamic, but it too is triggered in major ways by progressions and transits to points other than those two. For example, that square creates resonant voids at 14 Leo and 14 Scorpio. As each of those is occupied by a progression or transit, it sets up two different T-squares.
When planets pass through 14 Leo, the tensional awareness of the opposition is to 14 Aquarius, with the 14 Taurus planet the driver of the configuration, throwing the void into 14 Scorpio. When planets pass through 14 Scorpio, it creates tensional awareness with 14 Taurus, and the 14 Aquarius planet drives the T-square, creating a void at 14 Leo.
The void of a T-square shows the problem, the solution, or both. T-squares require integration of tensional energy being released by the planet driving the T. Any square we have in our chart will lead to T-squares being created every time a planet squares and opposes either planet in the natal square. T-squares are actually very dynamic times when a lot can get done, as long as the virtues of the void energies are being used, and not the malfunctions of those signs.
As squares and oppositions involve the 4th harmonic, they are part of the Octile (8th harmonic) series. That series includes the semisquare (45 d) and sesquisquare (135 d). Any square immediately creates its midpoint and the opposition to its midpoint.
In our example, the midpoint of 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus is 29 Pisces. So that point is also active in my chart, as is its opposite, 29 Virgo, since that point is sesquisquare 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus. The square also triggers 29 Gemini and 29 Sagittarius, since those points are also semisquare and sesquisquare 14 Aquarius and 14 Taurus. So the square from 14 Aquarius to 14 Taurus actually creates dynamic resonant points at 14 degrees of the Fixed signs, and also 29 degrees of the Mutable signs.
Returning to our example of the trine, in that case the midpoint between 12 Aries and 11 Leo is 11-12 Gemini, which is the externalization point for the void at 11-12 Sagittarius. So that one Fire trine creates resonant points in Sagittarius, but also in the three Air signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. The square creates 7 other resonant points which are activated at each semisquare, square, sesquisquare, and opposition to the planets in square. You can see that even a simple trine or square actually sets up all kinds of other points that will be triggered throughout our lives.
Other Aspect Series Generates Multiple Voids
Any aspect creates resonant voids in various areas. A quintile sets up three resonant points which will create quintiles and biquintiles to the planets in quintile. An example would be a quintile from 24 Aries to 6 Cancer. This would automatically generate voids at 18 Virgo, 30 Scorpio, and 12 Aquarius. Any transit through those zones would create multiple quintiles and biquintiles to the planets at 24 Aries and 6 Cancer.
When you have two or more planets making multiple aspects in any given harmonic series, all the other resonant points are activated. For example, 14 Taurus is in septile to 6 Cancer, and triseptile to 19 Libra, with 6 Cancer biseptile to 19 Libra. Someone with these three points occupied by planets would automatically have 4 other points activated, all either septile, biseptile, or triseptile to those three occupied points. In this case the invisible trigger points would be around28 Leo, 10 Sagittarius, 1 Aquarius, and 22 Pisces. Any transit across any of these 7 zones would make the three occupied points light up and create septile types of experiences involving those planetary departments, as well as life choices and changes in the houses they occupy and the houses they rule.
In another example, the 9th harmonic series involves spiritual realizations after a time of gestation, or a time of gestation preceding a spiritual realization. They represent stages in Self-Realization relative to each planet, and as you can see, the Sun has its 9 stages of realization, the Moon has its 9 stages of realization, Mercury has its 9 stages of realization, and so on for all our planetary functions.
Using our previous examples, a planet at 12 Aries would have realization points at 22 Taurus, 2 Cancer, 12 Leo, 22 Virgo, 2 Scorpio, 12 Sagittarius, 22 Capricorn, and 2 Pisces. A planet at 29 Virgo would have realization points at 9 Scorpio, 19 Sagittarius, 29 Capricorn, 9 Pisces, 19 Aries, 29 Taurus, 9 Cancer, and 19 Leo. As you can see, there will be multiple degree zones in our charts where multiple harmonic aspect series will be triggered.
Similar Voids in Different Aspect Series Shows Us our Complexity
The entire field of “Evolutionary Configurations” is based on occupied points in a chart generating resonant points which are triggered by transits and progressions, generating complex interactive “evolutionary” circumstances, because the natal phase relationship represented by planets in aspect is triggered by external events (transits) or internal realizations and experiences (progressions). This is why all our aspects are important, as they show us the hidden keys to how our various energies interact with each other.
Begin by mapping out your various voids involving trines, squares, and third points generating other trines and squares, as per our early examples. Then extrapolate to the more complex series. You’ll see that some of your Octile points make harmonious, specializing, or spiritual aspects to other planets, indicating times to release those better qualities in dynamic situations. And you’ll see that some of your favorable aspects generate other void points where you’ll confront friction, or specialization, or the need to have some things gestate before moving forward.
Again, this is fairly complex astrology, and why I offer that Astrology is actually 4-D trigonometry with each unique configuration moving consciousness, the 5th dimension, to express itself in the 4-D world. As we begin to dive deep into the complexities of our chart, we see that our planet in a sign and house is far more complex in its potential expressions than we’ll learn from any book. The very planetary principle which causes us friction could very well also be involved in developing our unique gifts and realizations which help us transcend the negative expression of our planets.
Hopefully this brief article has helped you crack the door to an immensely large subject, and you’ll see your chart with different eyes than before now. Enjoy plotting the resonant points to all your planets; you only have about 400, and by knowing what they are, you’ll be able to plot your spiritual journey across time, taking advantage of opportunities to bring out your gifts and blessings in ways that are perfect for you. Have fun digging for the gold in your chart!
