On September 12, Jupiter goes stationary direct at 18 Capricorn and resumes its direct motion lasting through the end of the year. What does this mean?
First, it means that the Jupiter review we’ve been doing since May is now over. We’ve all been in review, revision, and re-imagining our spiritual truths and noting where there is mental confusion in us or others as per its retrograde station at 28 Capricorn. Since mid-May we’ve been reviewing the degree span it first traversed between late February and mid-May 2020. Having reviewed those lessons, potentials, protections, blessings, opportunities, and newer, more expansive ways of seeing and expressing our sense of group responsibility or our duties to society which have led us to a greater truth, we now move forward.
From Here We Move Forward
This should bring a sense of confidence and well-being for those who have reviewed, found joy in the journey, and taken a broader view of their power to organize or reorganize something important to them. We now stand ready to live with a new “adventure in responsibility” we’ve explored during the past few months of Jupiter retrograde in Capricorn.
Despite the terrible crosscurrents of Mars retrograde in Aries square the planets in Capricorn coming between late September and late October, we can now move forward with confidence in the Capricorn area of our lives as we now get yet a THIRD experience at the span between 18 and 28 Capricorn over the next 13 weeks. In mid-December, after Jupiter leaves its shadow zone, it moves across the last 2 degrees of Capricorn before launching into the Jupiter in Aquarius year at 5:07 am PST, 1:07 pm GMT on December 19.
I believe it’s important to take a look back at our lives between April 2016 and now to see the Plutonic seeds now sprouting and expanding in 2020 due to Jupiter. Of even greater value is to examine February through July 2019 and mid-November 2019 through now to understand the Saturn lessons involved in this span of Capricorn. The Plutonic seeds and Saturnine structures can now be understood as the basis for the disciplined expansions to be managed through the rest of 2020.
The Sabian Symbol for Jupiter's Direct Degree
Jupiter’s stationary direct degree is 18 Capricorn, and the Sabian Symbol for the 18th degree of Capricorn is “The Union Jack.” According to Rudhyar’s notes in The Astrology of Personality taken from the Marc Jones class, this degree is one of "extreme of objectification of inner resources,” “challenge to life,” “splendid self-realization,” and “Full awareness of competition.”
In The Astrological Mandala he goes on to say this is a degree of "the protection afforded to individuals and groups by powerful institutions in charge of maintaining order.” He then goes on to tell us that “power is required to maintain social order and relatively peaceful interpersonal… relationships.”
He speaks of the need for “justice and compassion must balance social power, and especially the power of privileged groups,” along with the “realization of the ambivalence of political power, its value and its dangers.” He says this degree falls in the Span of Dependence, Act of Capitalization, and Scene of Group Performance on the Actional-Physical level.
Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of "the maximum protection which life at large will provide for the individual … on the social or political side.” He continues “there are always high rewards for common effort, since the organized nation is able to bring benefits to (us) beyond anything any person or group could ever win in a lesser dimension of experience.”
He goes on to say that "A greater community of interest is exalted through every possible phase of normal and everyday being.” He offers the keyword SUPERVISION, and states that when operating positively, the degree is "the self’s ever-widening spread of interest in its insatiable desire to leave some permanent imprint of itself on everything it touches.”
So this Jupiter station on the synthesizing degree of the actional part of group performance shows us the shapes of things to come through extrapolating what has been and how it led us to here and now. This indicates the platform for the larger Jupiter energies for the rest of the year involve the need for organized power “to maintain social order“ where “justice and compassion must balance… the power of privileged groups.” We are promised “high rewards for common effort.”
The Near Future
As Jupiter goes direct Mercury makes a square from Libra, giving portents to what we can expect in October. As it’s a Cardinal T, exercise good Cancer skills. Jupiter now resumes its forming conjunction with Pluto, marking the third one this year! You can find out more about the Jupiter conjunct Pluto themes for the year by revisiting Astrology in June and July 2020 – The Second Jupiter Conjunct Pluto
By the end of September we’ll be moving through the final quincunx from Leo via Venus before the intense swirl of activity in October! October brings us two Mercury quintiles to Jupiter and Pluto, with mid-month bringing Sun square Jupiter and opposed Mars just before Mars RX makes yet another square with Jupiter around the same time that Venus makes the final trine from Virgo.
Keep it simple, be a pleasant as possible while playing good defense, and much will be resolved by the end of October and early November, when the Sun makes its quintiles to the Capricorn stellium. After that both Mercury and Mars go direct, meaning that by mid-November only Uranus and Neptune will be retrograde, and by December only Uranus will be retrograde.
Many things will culminate over the next few weeks, since the inner planet transits through Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio will form waning aspects to Jupiter. This year we will have no more conjunctions of planets to or from Jupiter until it makes its fateful Grand Mutation conjunction with Saturn at 1 Aquarius, setting a 20 year Aquarian era into motion along with a 200 year era dominated by Air signs!
