The great Sean Connery (25 August 1930 – 30/31 October 2020) just checked out. Heralded in the past as "the greatest living Scot" and "The Sexiest Man of the Century," he was truly one of the all time greats in film. While most know him as THE James Bond, he also had some great roles in other movies. My personal favorite was his role in "The Man Who Would Be King" with Michael Caine. Happy trails, ultimate tough (and VERY sexy) guy. RIP.
For those who haven't heard of "The Man Who Would Be King," it is more than a brilliant movie with two of the greatest performances by two of the greatest actors; it is a tale of archetypal serendipity and a fall from inflated ego expectations when the curtain is stripped away. Brilliant movie from the first scene to the last. I believe Kipling joined the immortals when he wrote that book in the 1880s.
The Man Who Would be King is a great film. I think his best film as far as the message conveyed and the quality of his acting ability is the 1965 "The Hill". Brilliant criticism of stupid obedience and mindless action expected from those in power and the consequences of not following these stupid rules. One may wonder if that is the reason this film is almost never broadcast and hard to find/see.
