This Full Moon Eclipse of Sun in Sagittarius and Moon in Gemini will bring an opening to learn newer, more complex skills and realizations, glimpses of a broader view of evolution and the path we share with others. This Eclipse will remove old Sag/Gemini stuff, cleaning out the old to make way for newer, more abundant manifestations of these energies in our lives.
So what can we expect from this Lunation? Since all Eclipses shut something down, this distributive, “bridging the past and future” Penumbral Lunar Eclipse at 1:30 am PST, 9:30 am GMT on November 30 at the 9th degree of Sagittarius and Gemini begins a several month period of things getting "shut down" in the houses it occupies in our charts. Keep things simple as you find peace after the storms of July through October. This Lunation deals a death blow to some areas so new social power can come forth.
As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. The New Moon’s theme was related to allowing our “inspired teachings” to transform our everyday lives by regenerating our connection with those truths after 6 solid years of being tested. This Full Moon is the Light of an expanded focus expressed in a careful aim at whatever target we want to hit. It’s time to take the intensity of this time and find peace in the higher Truths you’ve been practicing for almost 7 years.
Continuing the theme that proceeds at each Full Moon as they move through each polarity, this one is the fifth of a series where the previous New Moon Sun is in a different sign than this Full Moon Sun. We can now take the “light of a new technique of social and/or emotional transformation” since the New Moon, and still being in a season of “saying goodbye quickly,” can see how to learn and teach skills which accelerate our ability to interact in our world. This is both a “before the beginning” Lunation, as well as an emergence of new ideas and understanding of potential futures.
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
An Overview
We’re now at the end game of Jupiter and Saturn’s dance with Pluto in late Capricorn. Since the June and July Eclipses, we’ve been in a time when we had to be “alertly ready to act” while not “falling into distress at not knowing what’s ahead” during a long period of changing allegiances and reorienting so we can stabilize something wherever we have 1 Cancer.
Remember that all Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our live. These losses merely clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer, more appropriate life substance can come to us. We’re still clearing out some old ideas, old truths, old habits, and old perspectives during these weeks, so step back from needless anxiety and see the bigger picture. We’re all surrendering to a deeper, vaster way of regarding our life and the Life which is all around us at the threshold of a new era for humanity.
This is the thirteenth and last Full Moon with Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter is now racing forward, again expanding the late Capricorn energies set into motion in January and March. We now have an ability to use a form of power in ways which bring peace and/or relief after the “whitewater” ride of July through late October. We’re now completing our Capricorn experience as Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are all moving forward. Our Capricorn retrograde period between May and September gave us a review of our sense of power and purpose; Capricorn direct gives us the ability to implement that power and purpose.
As you know from other articles, this is the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which is priming the pump for the 200 year Air era breaking big this December! Between January and March 2020, we began new Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. We also launched into a year of serious Saturn/Pluto energies, given the January conjunctions setting a new 33 year era into motion. As I said, we transfigured in 2018 and 2019, and now can find wisdom in the ongoing process of transfiguration as a verb rather than a noun.
This is the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. Since August we've been in the second pattern.
We had the Sun in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At August’s Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo. This month, the New Moon Sun was at 24 Sagittarius and this Full Moon Sun is at 9 Capricorn.
The last time we experienced this reverse order began at the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in late Leo and lasted until April 2019, when the Sun was in Aries in the New Moon as well as the subsequent Full Moon. The reversed pattern we're in will last until August 2021, when the New Moon is at 17 Leo and the Full Moon is at 30 Leo/Aquarius.
Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now are in a sequence with the “Seed Light” of Sagittarius coming to a Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Capricorn and Moon in Cancer. You can learn more about the recent Total Solar Eclipse New Moon at 24 Sagittarius by checking out those three articles posted 2 weeks ago.
Planetary Distribution
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Venus at 19 Sagittarius and Mercury at 15 Capricorn) is 26+ degrees. This month we see all the inner planets moving closer to Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn, with no major aspects except Mercury conjunct Pluto. As the inner planets continue to move through Capricorn and into Aquarius, it will narrow the occupied span until it become another Bundle Jones pattern in January. This month the primary focus is the span between the Sun at 9 Capricorn and Jupiter at 3 Aquarius.
Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are still very close, given their total span is still 8+ degrees. We're now done with the outer planet Capricorn emphasis, though that sign will be activated each year when the planets cross the "conjunction zone" between 23 and 25 Capricorn. Even though Mercury, Sun, and Venus will re-activate the short and long wave cycles set into motion by Great Compression conjunctions in Capricorn in January and March 2020, once they enter Aquarius in January and February, we’ll have another Great Compression in early 2021, this one in Aquarius.
We had two Great Compressions in Capricorn; one in February 2019, and one which hit maximum compression in March 2020. These brought us “Bundle” Jones patterns, with everything bundled in a very narrow span this year, creating a crowded house wherever we have Capricorn through Taurus. The Bundle pattern will again predominate between January and mid-March 2021.
Because of the occupied spans, it means the Moon is the primary determiner of the Jones Pattern, since it creates several different energy patterns along the way as the closing planet, nozzle, and opening planet for the rest of the planetary energies. This is the second Full Moon where it’s outside the outer planet occupied zone, since Cancer is outside the Capricorn to Taurus span.
At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, then moves through Jupiter and Saturn in early Aquarius, Neptune in Pisces, Mars in Aries, and Uranus in early Taurus, with the inner planets now occupying Sagittarius and Capricorn. In this chart Pluto is again the entry to the outer planet occupied span between Cap and Taurus, which will be a feature for many years to come. Transformation time!
As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Cancer and the loose hemispheric distribution, while there are elements of a Bucket Jones Pattern, because of the narrow span between the Moon and Uranus it's still a Bowl Jones pattern. While we'll be in a Bundle pattern when the Moon is between Scorpio and Gemini, we'll have a run of Full Moon Bucket patterns in January, February, and March.
So What is a “Bowl Pattern” and how does it work?
This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately half of the signs with an empty half opposite the occupies half, creates a “special type of conscious selfhood,” which Dr. Jones says “marks the Bowl type of temperament. He goes on to state “Fundamentally it is an extreme self-containment,” which “holds things, and a Bowl individual is one who always has something to bear.”
He goes on to state that with the Bowl, “the whole dynamic of man, his total power of achievement, arises in his instinctive realization that he is set off against a definite part of the world, that there is a complete segment of experience from which he is excluded in some subtle fashion. The Bowl not only holds something, but also places whatever it holds into relationship with a larger consideration.”
Dr. Jones continues that “the occupied segment of the Bowl horoscope reveals the activity and organization of the self, since planets are significant according to their place by sign and house, and the unoccupied segment becomes a challenge to existence, or the need and emptiness to which the native must direct his attention. The outstanding characteristic of the Bowl temperament is its marked sense of what is self-contained in contrast with what the self cannot hold, and this take an everyday form in an advocacy of some cause, the furtherance of a mission, an introspective concern over the purpose of experience.”
He concludes his explanation of how the pattern works with “The Bowl native always has something to give to his fellows, whether literally or psychologically, whether constructively or vindictively, because his orientation to the world arises from division; that is, frustration and uncertainty. The leading planets, determined in exactly the same way as for the Locomotive pattern, give a point of application, and shows where and how the native seeks to carry out his mission or gain his everyday justification for existence.”
He brings up another important point of analysis, as he states “the leading planet is of secondary importance in the Bowl pattern, unless it is found in a strong opposition or cosmic cross. The fundamental attack on the problems of life by the Bowl individual is indicated more significantly by the tilt or house-position of the Bowl-segment.”
He concludes this section by stating “the Bowl character is definitely more self-expending, or self-seeking, and more practically interested in what things mean and what they are. It continually throws the emphasis from the signs into the houses. It a general way the Bowl tends to ‘scoop up’ things and initiate experience when the position of the leading planet ranges from the fourth cusp, up and over the ascendant, to the midheaven cusp, and then inclines to “capture” things or consummate various phases of life when the leading planet is placed similarly from the tenth angle down over the descendant to the nadir.”
Venus in Scorpio is the leading planet, so find a Venusian “concentrated focused approach to initiate experience with an eye to helping those who are “out of their depth.” Following the flow, move into new cooperative collective experiences, advance or withdraw as needed, and trust your ability to “read the tea leaves.” As noted earlier, this is a karmic turning point with some doors closing and other opening.
With the Moon closing, take a new look at recent discoveries, and cultivate techniques of taking careful aim and “letting your arrows fly.” This is a time of discovering new ways of giving and receiving information and anticipating things to come while finding peace after the recent storms. This leads with individual, mental, and spiritual Communion, and closes with emotional-social Discovery.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I’ll be updating it soon.
For many weeks, we have been revisiting the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) as both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, and in this chart Jupiter and Pluto are both biseptile Uranus and Jupiter and Saturn are both septile Neptune. While more offset than previous months, we still have three active points in a 7-pointed Star of Destiny, with the coming Mercury and Venus septiles to Pluto, biseptiles to Neptune, and triseptiles to Uranus triggering the next manifestation of this evolutionary configuration.
This is yet another time of choice and change, with decisions being made which will affect the near and distant future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
Because Saturn has been and continues to occupy its home sign of Capricorn, and soon will occupy its other home sign of Aquarius, it is the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. That makes it a dominant force through April 2022. And because Jupiter is in Capricorn, Saturn has also been center stage during the transits of Sagittarius and Pisces. That means Saturn will loom large over personal and global events each Winter for a while!
Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.
In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we needed in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.
I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Couple with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.
The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.
Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.
On A Final Note
See you in the near future with parts two and three on this hopeful, helpful, “peaceful discovery” Full Moon Eclipse which will help us focus our altruism and re-identify with Source because of the multiple echoes of the past now in play. The New Moon invoked the degree themes of life transformation set up by Saturn in 2014, activated by Mars in 2016, and blessed by Jupiter in 2018. In this Eclipse, Mercury is at 28 Scorpio, echoing the Mercury retrograde themes which bookended 2019 of re-identifying with “the One Within,” reconnecting with Source while turning away from outer things.
The nonstop conflicts between July and October were wearying, and we’re now in a time of rest, peace, anticipation, and withdrawing from useless activity. We’re still in the transitional period of learning how to repair damage from stress, repair feelings which have become the source of discontent, and learning how to “use knowledge and skill to anticipate a stage yet to come.” The coming two weeks should be pretty favorable, given the lack of frictional aspects. While it is the end of some experiments, it prepares us for future experiments to come beginning January.
The Sun lights the open-minded explorations of Sagittarius, and offers us the light of focused insights and self-discipline to find confidence despite the outer chaos. We are at another turning point, closing some old roles and duties to create space for new ones to come forth in January. Appreciate the simplicity of the process, and find peace in knowing you made it through the storm.
The Scorpio sextiles and quintiles to the Capricorn planets will help us productively reorganize and/or regenerate something related to the systems and structures we’ve been building all year. The new roles and responsibilities we’ve taken on will lead to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn have led us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, indicates our work for a long time to come.
Since the Summer of 2019, we’ve all been “tearing ourselves away from the known and familiar, gambling all on a great dream.” However, the same revolutionary pulse is showing as some people reacting in confrontational ways, indicating we’ve entered a period of polarization and tension between the old and the new. Continue to be alert to the old masquerading as the new, and beware of people being oppositional-defiant for no good reason.
We all continue to journey into the unknown since the 2020 Cancer Solar Eclipse is removing all which is contrary to what we care about and are here to nurture in the future. The past several months have challenged us all to let go of fear, egocentricity, and feelings of fatigue or inadequacy. We are still finding healing through seeing images of our past in a different light as symbols of a new social-emotional expression while learning to concentrate to see the whole picture.
Because of the Mercury retrograde “bookend” theme of 2020, we now have found a higher, more diplomatic and dignified way of interacting with others over the past year. The recent Mercury retrograde period gave us a look back to see how we’ve “raised our game” in our interactions, and now can move forward, using a combination of “soft power” and “hard power” to move through the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.
As we approach the Grand Mutation of 2020, the next 2 weeks should give us some relief and an ability to repair whatever got stressed by the conflicts of the Summer and early Autumn. We now continue our spiritual journey at a fork in the road of our collective destiny, so remember your connection with the World Soul, your Wisdom, and your greater dedication. Value humanitarian expressions, show loyalty to your friends, and display the vaster spiritual awareness you share with your Brothers and Sisters.
We’ve stabilized the Capricorn promise of 2018 and 2019 as changes accelerate the coming conflict which precedes the coming 20 year Aquarian sub-era which will change us and our world for decades to come! Maintain your self-discipline, be patient with the process, let go of nonessentials, and go inward or exercise power, depending on your circumstance.
I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
