When Jupiter conjuncted Saturn at 1 Aquarius, tremendous long wave tides were set into motion for many people.
I first gave you a look at these last March when Mars conjuncted Saturn on March 31, 2020 at 1 Aquarius. While Mars/Saturn conjunctions occur every two years, and initiate a new set of responsibilities and activities wherever they fall in our chart, Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions occur only once every 20 years, profoundly focusing our lives in the areas where they happen. So who is most affected, and what can we expect? Today we look at past, present, and future.
This one fell at 1 Aquarius, and so marks a major renewal and rebeginning for those born in late January, bringing together areas involving self-image and self-awareness, finances, resources, goals, ambitions, group work, and understanding our motives and how to view the movie of our lives from a broader angle.
Generational Shifts
While this conjunction marks a major turning point for those born in late January, late April, late July, and late October, it’s also impacting many others as well. Wherever you have early Aquarius in your chart is now the focus for the next twenty years in the realms of your life involving Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
Entire generations with outer planets in certain parts of certain signs are also profoundly affected, but to go into all possibilities would be cumbersome here. For a brief example of generations affected by this, people born between 1937 and 1940 have their Pluto opposed by this conjunction. Those born in December 1982 through February 1983, October 1983 through October 1984, and April through October 1985 have their Pluto squared by this conjunction.
Those born August through December 1948 and May 1949 through May 1950 have their Uranus quincunxed by this conjunction, as do those born between October 1961 and February 1962, July through September 1962, and March through July 1963. It squares the Neptune of those born between November 1955 and August 1959.
Of major importance is that it falls on the Saturn of those born March through June 1961, December 1961 through March 1962, July through December 1962, and all of 1991, marking in each case the Saturn return. These groups will experience the need to see a way to make a greater contribution to their society, joining with others in long term building projects, especially in areas where they're most fearful or rigid. This is one of the most important events in a human life, which is why I’ve devoted an entire chapter to it in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
So check out the house it falls in and the aspects it makes to all your planets, since even those without 1 Aquarius active can be profoundly affected. For example, while I don’t have anything at that exact degree, the conjunction falls in close quintile to my Sun, square to my Mercury, biseptile to my Venus, septile to my Jupiter, trine to my Saturn, triseptile to my Uranus, and biseptile my Neptune! These indicate which parts of my life will be affected, and how.
It will certainly affect my 7th harmonic natal pattern involving my Venus, Uranus, and Neptune, since it fills in one of the voids in that 7 pointed “Star of Destiny” pattern. That means for the next twenty years, any transit across 12-16 Taurus, 4-8 Cancer, 25-29 Leo, 17-21 Libra, 8-12 Sagittarius, 29 Capricorn-3 Aquarius, and 20-24 Pisces will trigger big shifts, choices, and changes affecting me in many areas of my life! I’ll be monitoring when various transits move through the late Cap early Aquarius zone, especially when Mars transits Taurus late January and early February at the same time Venus occupies the Cap/Aquarius zone and the Moon moves through the Leo and Libra zones!
Monitoring Past and Future Jupiter/Saturn Cyclic Shifts
A significant part of the second half of Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend explains the points in “the whole cycle” when major shifts occur, and the quality of what to expect when Saturn (or any planet) makes waxing (lower) and waning (upper) squares, as well as oppositions, to our planets. We’ve just finished an entire Jupiter/Saturn cycle which began at their last conjunction at 24 Taurus. By studying the “action beats” of the past 20 years, as well as those to come between now and 2040, we can get a larger sense of how these conjunction themes involving larger forces of social and cultural change, have played out, and will play out, over this 40 year period. (Thanks goes out to Greg Bogart at Mundane Astrologers for inspiring this section.)
The last conjunction was in May 2000 at the 24th degree of Taurus. Look at your own chart and find where that conjunction fell. The phases of this past Jupiter-Saturn cycle were as follows, with D for direct motion, SD for stationary direct, RX for retrograde motion and SRX for stationary retrograde:
May 2000: Jupiter-Saturn conjunction, 23 Taurus
December 2005: Jupiter 11 Scorpio D square Saturn 11 Leo RX
June 2006: Jupiter 10 Scorpio RX square Saturn 10 Leo D
Oct 2006: Jupiter 24 Scorpio D square Saturn 24 Leo D
May 2010: Jupiter 28 Pisces D opposite Saturn 28 Virgo SD
August 2010: Jupiter 3 Aries RX opposite Saturn 3 Libra D
March 2011: Jupiter 15 Aries D opposite Saturn 15 Libra RX
August 2015: Jupiter 29 Leo D square Saturn 29 Scorpio SD
March 2016: Jupiter 17 Virgo RX square Saturn, 17 Sagittarius SRX
May 2016: Jupiter 14 Virgo D square Saturn 14 Sagittarius RX
The points where Jupiter and Saturn made these aspects to the initial conjunction before the new one at 1 Aquarius are as follows:
Jupiter 23 Leo: July 2003; 23 Scorpio: October 2006; 23 Aquarius: April, August, December 2009; 23 Taurus: May 2012; 23 Leo: November-December 2014 SRX, July 2015; 24 Scorpio: February, March, April, October 2018.
Saturn 23 Leo: October 2006, January, February, June, July 2007; 23 Scorpio: January, February, March, April, October 2014.
The current Jupiter/Saturn conjunction will have these turning points:
August 2024: Jupiter 18 Gemini D square Saturn 18 Pisces RX
December 2024: Jupiter 15 Gemini RX square Saturn 15 Pisces D
June 2025: Jupiter 2 Cancer D square Saturn 2 Aries D
December 2029: Jupiter 19 Scorpio D opposition Saturn 19 Taurus RX
April 2030: Jupiter 26 Scorpio RX opposition Saturn 26 Taurus D
November 2030: Jupiter 7 Sag D opposition Saturn 7 Gemini RX
August 2031: Jupiter 20 Sag RX opposition Saturn 20 Gemini D
October 2031: Jupiter 24 Sag D opposition Saturn 24 Gemini SRX
April 2035: Jupiter 30 Aries D square Saturn 30 Cancer D
October 2035: Jupiter 18 Taurus RX square Saturn 18 Leo D
February 2036: Jupiter 15 Taurus D square Saturn 15 Leo RX
The points where Jupiter and Saturn make these aspects to the conjunction at 1 Aquarius before the next one at 18 Libra are as follows:
Jupiter 1 Taurus: May 2023; 1 Leo: July 2026; 1 Scorpio: September 2029; 1 Aquarius: April, June, December 2032; 1 Taurus: April-May 2035; 1 Leo: June 2038
Saturn 1 Taurus: April 2028; 1 Leo: May 2035
It’s safe to say that everyone on Earth will be affected in important ways via the house in which the conjunction at 1 Aquarius falls and the houses Jupiter and Saturn rule in our charts. This conjunction challenges us all to participate in a group exercise building structures which will serve as spiritually inspired efforts in the future. And away we go!
