The Grand Mutation of December 2020 at 1 Aquarius – Ushering In A New 200 Year Era

We stand on a threshold of change at the December 2020 Solstice when Jupiter conjuncts Saturn at 1 Aquarius. When these two heavily influential planets come together every 20 years, it re-sets many of the social and cultural parameters in the world, with new attitudes and new requirements replacing those which no longer fit our evolutionary need. For better and for worse, these mark major steps for society. They also indicate a major redirection of our personal energies toward the house in which the conjunction falls.

Every 200 years, these conjunctions move from the predominant element of the past 200 years, and move into a new 200 year period of the conjunctions happening in that new element. There’s usually a period where two elements overlap which finishes one era and begins a new one. Air last dominated the 13th, 14th, and early 15th centuries. Water dominated from the early 15th through the end of the 16th century. Fire dominated the 17th and 18th centuries, and Earth has dominated every Jupiter/Saturn conjunction since then except the last one of the Fire era in 1821, all the way through to the last of the Earth era in 2000 which influenced the past 20 years. The first conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in an Air sign, heralding this new 200 year Air era in 2000, occurred in 1980. That year featured three conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn in Libra in 1980-81 at 10, 9, and 5 Libra.

We now enter a period of 200 years of unbroken conjunctions in Air, with the first one at 1 Aquarius, promising a great building work which will serve as inspirational touchstones for the future. We are finally moving beyond the dense materialism of the past 200 years, with the promise of more widespread focus on our commonality and ability to share ideas over the next 200. This period of Air conjunctions will last until the last one at 29 Aquarius in the Spring of 2199. The conjunction after that is in October 2219 at 15 Scorpio, ushering in 200 years of Water conjunctions. So our next 200 years begins with Aquarius energy, and will end with Aquarius energy! That seems perfect for our approach to the threshold of the Age of Aquarius.

So Does This Conjunction Mean We’re in the Age of Aquarius?

While it is another important step into the coming Age of Aquarius, it’s important to remember that an age takes hundreds of years to approach, and hundreds more years after the threshold is crossed. Cosmic Time and the glacial pace of evolution make these sorts of transitions occur over very long periods of time, with the old and new overlapping for many decades if not centuries. I have two articles addressing the different Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto transits through Aquarius these past 245 years in articles which will post soon.

I believe the initial sprouting of the seeds of the Age of Aquarius happened when Pluto was in Aquarius from 1777 to 1797, with the awakening of the rights of the individual and the overthrow of the divine rights of rulers. Each pass of Uranus and Neptune has expanded the future Aquarian pulses, with Saturn bringing structure at each pass through that sign. As I see it, the threshold span is the first two and last two degrees of the signs. If 1777 is the beginning of the long wave transition, and 4 degrees equals 288 years, that gives us a movement across of the threshold by 2065. Again, as The Secret Doctrine makes clear, it'll be at least another century or more after that before humanity no longer has any material, emotional, or mental echoes of the past Age of Pisces.

The newest pulses beginning at this Grand Mutation will help further the Aquarius "Cosmic Thoughtform" awakened by Uranus most recently about around 17-24 years ago which was followed by Neptune "dreaming" Aquarian energies into the collective field from the late 90s through 2012, setting those iterations of Aquarian energies into motion for this century. These set the current socio-cultural pulse within which the Pluto in Aquarius "awakening of the seeds" will operate during the second quarter of this century.

However, these awakened energies will still be conditioned by the Capricorn long wave cycles set into motion at the Great Compression of January through March 2020 which will last anywhere from 1 to 11 to 30+ years (in the case of Saturn conjunct Pluto). So even though we enter a 200 year Era of Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions in Air signs, for the next 30+ years we’re still stuck with “Capricorn economics.”

That means we’ll be in an Age in Transition between two similar but different faces of the same energy, with emergent Aquarius energies coming forth within Capricorn structures. Sounds like a battle between Saturn and Uranus to me! Past structures colliding with new global necessities for innovation. Obsolete rules, restrictions, and assumptions seeking to confine an unstoppable revolutionary impulse. Selfishness colliding with altruism. Personal self-interest competing with and ultimately giving way to the greatest good for the greatest number.

The new Law of infinite potential always seeks form in Saturn, but a new life always requires new forms of expression. The future strives to come forth even as the inertia of Saturn's "Ring Pass Not" refuses to yield to anything except the determination to break on through to a new view of one's greater purpose within the larger field of possibility. We now enter a time of learning how to use Capricorn structures to achieve the vision of Aquarius in concrete forms, creating spiritual touchstones for centuries to come. This gives wings to a new destiny of our times.

Once Pluto enters Aquarius in 2023 and begins its radical transformational journey through that progressive sign, it will sprout the long term seeds of the coming Aquarian Age through 2043. So despite Saturn conjunct Pluto in Capricorn dominating the period between 2020 and 2053, while we may have a Capricorn structure for the larger economic field, we have a powerful Aquarian energy influencing the macroeconomic field from 2020 to 2040.

Then we have another Jupiter conjunct Saturn in October 2040 at 18 Libra, which happens at the same time Mars conjuncts Jupiter at 3 Libra and Saturn at 11 Libra, influencing the macroeconomic field from 2040 to 2060. Then Saturn re-enters Aquarius in 2050-2051, and it’s a new world! These are some of what has to take place before we get to the next Saturn in Aquarius after mid-century, which will crystallize into form all that Pluto and Jupiter have promised between now and then!

Still, because of so many 20th century systems in place, the transition from the dying Piscean Age and the emergent Aquarian Age will run several hundred years. I’ve written about how Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto transits of Aquarius these past 240 years have set certain long wave “pulses” of Aquarius energies into the spiritual field, with each pass strengthening Aquarius energies appropriate to those time periods. I'll post some of this tomorrow.

2020 Began The Acceleration of the Aquarius Energies

Our newest Aquarian quickening was set into motion when Mars conjuncted Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020. That triggered the beginning of the preliminary structures which will be developed in 2021 and beyond once Jupiter conjuncts Saturn on that exact degree. Saturn then sat in the first 2 degrees of Aquarius in April, May, and June, giving us a dress rehearsal for the lessons we’ll learn in 2021 and beyond.

All of 2020 has been a dance on the “Edge of Cosmic Time,” where we’ve been offered visions of a greater good for a greater number. This blend of Capricorn and Aquarius energies has made Saturn a major player on the main stage, showing us a more timeless role to play to help create a better world. What is your purpose? What structures and self-disciplines do you need to fulfill the ideal of that purpose?

It would seem we are in the final decades at the end of a Great Age, and at the far end of a centuries' long transition period between blind belief in saviors and a future where we all contribute our uniqueness to the effort to create a greater good for the greatest number. Those who want saviors are part of a dying belief system; those who want to cooperate in a better way are the heralds of an emerging way of regarding Life, Light, Humanity, and Earth in entirely different ways.

In the article Mars Conjunct Saturn at 1 Aquarius Pt. 1 – Participating In A Larger Cooperative Vision in 2020-2021-2022, I gave you the Sabian Symbol for 1 Aquarius and how that conjunction would affect all of us. So this is the symbol for the Grand Mutation.

The Sabian Symbol for the Conjunction

The 1st degree of Aquarius is "An old adobe mission.” In the original Jones notes published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this symbolizes “Mastery of man over environment while becoming an integral part of it,” “Recognition of established values,” and “Impressiveness.”

We are told in the Astrological Mandala that this symbolizes “The power inherent in all great human works to endure far beyond the workers’ life spans.” He goes on to state this is about the Aquarian quality of “a more spiritualized and idealistic or creative picture of the social forces at work,” stressing “the enduring character of human achievements ensouled by a great vision.”

He then continues that this is about “the projection of a noble ideal into concrete forms of beauty and significance,” offering others the chance to reach a higher level of activity. He states this symbol “speaks to us of the concretization of an ideal… (implying) the immortalization of an individual within a great collective and cultural enterprise.” This symbol is said to be in the Span of Defensiveness, Act of Capitalization, and is the initial degree of the Actional level of the Scene of Contribution.

Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this degree is one of “everlasting sustainment” and the need to be oriented and stable as we move through life. He says it’s about “enduring ties which (we) must neither neglect nor underrate,” which calls us to remember who we really are at core.

He concludes that this is an “emphasis on unbroken continuity between the psychological and physical certainties of (our) being, and a reminder of their continuing value…” He offers us the keyword DURABILITY. He states that when this degree works positively, it is one of “effective breadth of vision and a respect-compelling depth of character.”

This clearly implies what began in April and will take wings in December will involve all of us opening to a greater vision of how we can contribute to the future of humanity in our unique way by joining with others in some effort. This should create or bring back timeless ties with others who share our vision of a better life and world, however we see that.

As we mobilize in the area of our chart this falls in, and observe the aspects this conjunction makes in our charts, we will begin to see how this larger global force will impact our particular planetary lights. As you sort out what fits where, you’ll see you’re done with a chapter of life in your house where you have late Capricorn, and now enter a new Aquarius era of focus.

I believe those who embrace a greater cooperative vision with innovative disciplines of activity will find themselves in the groove with the Higher Law of the moment, in tune with spiritual Brothers and Sisters, building toward a greater idea. This is a degree of building “spiritually iconic structures,” material and ideological, which will serve future humanity. See what’s opening on the actional, material level in your life, accept your power to make a constructive difference by playing the part you’re meant to play for the fulfillment of the whole effort, and enjoy focusing your understanding, backed by courage, to find the life renewal promised over the next 20 years.

As Jupiter conjuncts Saturn, it expands that particular "Dharmic" Saturn influence for a generation. As we learn to use our Saturn to its best expression, we can master the changes and open to a more focused, freer purpose driven life. Beautiful article Robert. Although I see a different "existential rollout" shall we say in terms of certain aspects related to transits during the next 20 year period I COMPLETELY AGREE with the general gist of what you are saying here.

Something that i've been repeating to my own astrological clients in the past two weeks it, "Meditate on being able to see and grasp the Uniqueness and Value of all Individuals apart from the Role they Play on the Stage of Life be they Gardener, Professor, or Movie Star."

I think a central aspect of this new era is that Communal Commune-ing, a central recognition of a Tribal past that can be elevated to a new standard of Aquarian equanimity and egalitarianism.

I also think the possibility of everyone contributing to this Whole is ripening and our "Social Tribe" will only increase in size as we move forward.

We are Now the Ones we've been Waiting For.
