We all have Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto somewhere in our charts. These “transpersonal spiritual” planets help us to remember our connection with Spirit as learn how to be our Highest Self even when we must be “invisible” to the world.
I gave this to you a year ago when the lockdowns and quarantines began. After reading about how some people have a much harder time in solitude than others, it led me to offer you these insights about having an “invisible” planet rising.
Pluto Rising
I have Pluto rising just a few degrees below my Ascendant, and so have had to live as a Plutonic Being my entire life. I know it very well, and while it’s led me through various impossibly intense situations, it’s also given me the ability to master “economy of energy” and learn not to fear “the underworld” of our existence.
I have been a solitary creature my entire life. Pluto rising has definitely put me in various states of “quarantine” since I was born. I suppose it’s my Moon in Aquarius which keeps me connected with people, since my Pluto side has no problem being in solitude, even for extended periods.
I learned the value and inevitability of times of solitude along the way through the various Plutonic trials which threw me into the underworld of my existence. Whether the extremely high fevers of my childhood, the sheltering in when a CAT 4 and other powerful hurricanes blew through our region, or staying at home during the Bay of Pigs and being told if missiles were launched we were 8 minutes away from nuclear annihilation during the Cuban Missile Crisis, I learned early on there are times not to go outside.
While Pluto shows the terrifying trial of our lives, some of which put us on the edge of what seems like annihilation, throughout them all I learned that fear is a dangerous disease, and utterly useless in dealing with what we fear. We all come into life and learn a lot of things to fear. This is normal. However, we must all learn to overcome fear, as it cripples the ability of our Soul to shine through our personality. As I learned courageously to face my fear, I found my fear vanishing like yesterday’s clouds.
During these times, as well as my adult experiences of needing to shelter in for all kinds of reasons, I’d turn inward, and occupy my time with whatever productive things called my mind. Crises were certainly a great time for me to feel fear and expunge it from my mind. When I couldn’t go into the outer world, like a seed (ruled by Pluto) I’d submerge into the soil of my depth existence, and do whatever was in front of me until the next period of sprouting into the outer world.
As I told you this time last year, in this quarantine I’ve found I have plenty to do. I don’t mind being at home, “invisible to the world” as it were. There’s plenty we can do when we concentrate. Newton did some of his best work when in quarantine from the Black Plague. I’ve maintained my writing and done probably more chart sessions for my clients than any time in the past 10 years! I’ve found a world of productive activity in this year of not being distracted by going here and there.
In the past there were times when my “self-exile” was a perfect camouflage which helped me survive some incredibly toxic situations where I couldn’t leave but also didn’t dare say or do anything to attract any attention. Sometimes we must endure outer conditions until they change or we are free to leave. That’s a universal which teaches us how to use our Saturn virtues (patience, planning, persistence, acceptance of boundaries) to structure our lives as we move through deep transformational circumstances which will changes us forever.
Uranus and Neptune Rising Also Make One “Invisible”
My wife has Uranus rising, another “invisible” planet. Throughout her life, she too has enjoyed her solitude and “invisibility” as she went about fulfilling her unique work as an elementary school reading specialist. Awakening minds from a place of relative invisibility is very Uranian! Other Uranus rising people I’ve known were brilliant, eccentric, and had no problem with working in solitude, sometimes preferring that to having others around.
I have known countless people with Neptune rising, and they too are comfortable with a “cloaked” and somewhat hermit like existence, known to many and yet very few. While they may have trouble figuring out who they are from time to time, they also have no problem with spending time in solitude, secure within the ocean of their own self-awareness (and sometimes the fog of their own self-delusion!)
We all have the “outer invisibles” somewhere in our chart. Whether in an angle, on an angle, or hanging out in one of the other houses, we can use our Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto functions to find higher realizations and skills, occupying our time to improve our spiritual awareness and “response abilities.” The outer transpersonal planets bring us tests related to perfecting our inner planet “lower octave” responses to the “higher octave” spiritual pulses.
The Importance of Saturn In Perfecting Our Expression
Because all inner personality planets are subject to Saturn’s rules and limitations, when we’re caught up in situations which seem “beyond our control,” all we need to do is remember Saturn is the natural keeper of time and boundaries in any period, and use our time to improve our Saturn responses in shaping our Mercury, Venus, and Mars expressions of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
The virtues of Pluto have forced me to deal with my Saturn response. The virtues of Uranus have forced my wife to deal with hers. Saturn gives us the patience, maturity, and ability to structure our lives so we make good use of solitude, as well as the times we get to hang out with people. And the digital age has made it much easier to connect in between our times of solitude.
After a year in quarantine, I have observed that some handle it better than others (an understatement if ever there was one!) It seems some do NOT want to accept Saturn’s lesson of taking responsibility for our impact on our society, our need to observe normal social safety protocols, and other things any mature person willingly accepts. This year of the pandemic has made it clear who is willing to “grow up and take responsibility,” and those who want to party like it’s the 17th century with the plague taking the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
With a healthy Saturn function, we have no problem using our time alone wisely. Having known countless friends and clients with Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto rising, I can state with certainty that every person I’ve known with an outer planet rising have not minded their solitude, and often prefer it to others’ company. That implies it is in the nature of our spiritual Self to know the value of solitude, and use that solitude to contact higher realms of awareness and a deeper connection to Source.
Past and Present Pluto Challenges
In 2020, Jupiter radically expanded our Pluto potential wherever we have late Capricorn through its three conjunctions with the purifying transformer. It was a year to learn to use Plutonic energies wisely to “expansively purify” our mind, feelings, and actions rather than sit in the fear and dread of annihilation.
As Pluto rules the Divine Law of Economy of energy, we have had abundant opportunities to use this time of being “expanded submerged seeds” to strip away all that is unworthy of our spiritual Self. 2020 was a year to use the discipline of Capricorn to see the future potential of the seeds which sprouted during those conjunctions as they will develop over the next 12 years of that cycle.
Pluto continues its stay in late Capricorn until 2023, when it makes its first entry into Aquarius since 1777. This will continue to put pressure wherever its transiting, as will Uranus and Neptune. These three represent the vast spiritual field of “Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva” dancing with each other, each presiding over its respective spiritual realm. The transits show us how well we’re dealing with those planets in our natal and progressed chart.
What If I Don’t Have Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto Rising?
Even if you don’t have Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto rising or on an angle, you’ve still had to learn to express those energies in healthy ways at various points in life, whether by transit or progression. Those who have Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto in the 2nd or first part of the 3rd house will experience their rise by progression, and at some point have to deal with these energies in their progressed first house, whether they make a conjunction with the progressed Ascendant or not.
Those with an outer planet in the 11th or first part of the 12th house will experience their culmination over the course of the life, since culminating planets are powerful and often are conjuncted by the progressed Midheaven. If you have one or more of these in the 8th or first part of your 9th house, they will descend by progression, and will work out their transformational energies through your relationships, since over the course of your life they will “set” into the 7th house. And if you have them in the 5th or first part of your 6th house, they will sink over the course of your life into the “evolving foundations” of the progressed IC.
One way and another, the outer spiritual planets will work their magic, whether above or below the horizon of our lives or the “east-west” dance with others. By noting the quadrants where these transpersonal spiritual energies are at work, we can see where we’re awakening, individualizing, sensing the collective field, seeing the fogs and delusions of human life, and going through purifying transfigurations through taking the journey through the underworld to come out the unadulterated essence of our seed power of eternal growth, death, and rebirth.
From Here We Go On
As I told you this time last year, this period of enforced solitude will pass. Eventually all plagues pass away, and humanity is free to stand in the sunlight again, celebrating the renewal of life after that which threatens us all. That’s why how we handle our time of solitude will determine what type of life we’ll have after our quarantine. It seems that while we’re all ready to “get back to normal,” some believe they are still immortal and impervious to this plague which still kills thousands around the world each week.
How we have lived during this crisis will determine a lot now that we’re collectively emerging on the other side of the worst part of this global crisis for humanity. It has been and continues to be a perfect time to take stock of our blessings. It is a perfect time to show appreciation to our loved ones and friends. It is a perfect time to slow down, go inward, and reconnect with Self, with others in considerate ways, with the Earth Herself, and with Source.
I’ve used the past year of solitude to do quite a few video conferences which helped me continue and expand my public work in Astrology. It has served as a vehicle for me and a group of friends to create the new Astrology Arizona group bringing the world together in digital Astrological presentations. Though I miss the direct physical contact with people, I now appreciate the digital age in ways I never did before.
Video conferencing has allow me and countless others to spend time with people in many ways we never could before computers and face time and face book and zoom and IM and Instagram and all the other ways we check in with each other these days. This short term solution for interacting with each other when we cannot share physical space has already created other long term ways of working and visiting with each other. Our world has changed forever, and continues to change, moving from the Earth model of materialism to the Air model of interactivity. And it’s just the beginning, with miracles of electromagnetic development to come for the rest of our lives.
Again, I am connecting with others, connecting with the Earth, connecting with myself, connecting with Source. This has been and continues to be my care plan for outlasting this plague. So far it seems to be working well, and I hope you will continue to take heart in your solitude, as we all are journeying through this together.
We are Spirits learning how to deal with this mysterious strange thing we call “life on Earth.” This means remembering we are part of Nature Herself, and not separate from Life or each other for even a moment.
This is a time to remember our Oneness and connect with others, connect with Earth, and connect with ourselves. I hope you will join us.

hello Robert
Would you consider writing an article about Saturn rising? I've got Saturn conjunct my Asc, also retrograde and in the 12th house.
