The Full Moon of Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio is the Wesak Festival, where the “Eternal Buddha Wisdom” pours out a new form of compassionate wisdom for the world which will be spread across all nations at the next Full Moon. We will be shown a deeper, more universal wisdom to incorporate into our lives wherever we have Scorpio and Taurus in our charts. This one renews our lives!
The Full Moon of Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio is the second of the “Three High Moons” of the Northern Hemispheric Spring. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus through anchoring those themes in expression. This is the Light of substance and the ability to respond to substance appropriately, expressed through either elimination, attraction, or both. Because the Moon is in Scorpio, the Wesak Wisdom always involves some form of renunciation or letting go, creating space for new wisdom-forms to be substantiated.
Since the Wesak represents “Buddha Wisdom” of a compassionate form helping us all to end suffering, the next two weeks can help us remember the wisdom we’ve found throughout our “mature experience.” This will be expressed through what we let go of, what we choose to regenerate, and how we choose to fill recent voids. This will show us something about our worth and/or what we value, and what we need to reclaim of our wisdom which allows us a genuine rejuvenation. It should either a) help us find a balanced wisdom, or b) require a balanced approach to what we see is coming.
This Wesak Festival Full Moon in Scorpio-Taurus will open a global wisdom and greater ways of substantiating our personal spiritual activity. This one will give form to the awakenings we’ve experienced since May 2020, and prepares us for a dynamic quest for knowledge within the context of our current spiritual group work. Last year’s Wesak helped us all clean out all within us which obstructed our long term wisdom path, and prepared us for new collective work which has come forth this year.
This Full Moon stabilizes a new era, and as I told you in Spiritual Astrology In 2021 - The Three High Moons of the Northern Hemisphere Spring, it also is the second of the “Three High Moons” of the Northern Hemispheric Spring, showing us all a new Wisdom Teaching for Earth. This will confirm many things about who we are and the wisdom path we’re on, and will concretize a new Wisdom teaching for the world which will be distributed at the next Full Moon.
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
An Overview
So what can we expect from the Lunation? This stabilizing, regenerative, balancing and awakening Full Moon occurs at 8:32 pm PDT April 26, 4:32 am BST April 27, and falls at the 8th degree of Taurus and Scorpio. This will help us “think in the future,” and receive illumination once our agitated mind is calm. This will help us take the compassion we’ve found since the New Moon and helps us move into a more active expression of our ability to become the embodiment of the Wisdom we seek. This New Moon opens deeper relationship connections with others in our Soul groups, and should help us ground our Wisdom as we steer our “ship of personality” to the safe harbor of our higher destiny.
The New Moon’s theme was related to following through on some new life initiative in a time of “productive compassion” or “compassionate productivity.” This Full Moon is the Light of our independent free will as a power to transcend outer circumstances, and the power to mold life on a pioneering vision expressed as an “illumination of the Soul.”
Continuing the theme that proceeds at each Full Moon as they move through each polarity, this one is the tenth of a series where the previous New Moon Sun is in a different sign than this Full Moon Sun. We can now take the “light of following through” since the New Moon, and now apply it to a new way of “thinking in the future.”
We’re now officially launched into a new 20 year and 200 year era! We “graduated into a new realm of being” last May, navigated the nonstop storms of July through October, and now have the momentum aiming us toward a greater social contribution which can outlive us. In 2019 and 2020 we built the structures which we’ll use in 2021 and 2022 to grow into a greater contribution to our world and lives.
The 2020 Eclipses moved us all in new directions, reorienting wherever we have 1 Cancer, and removing blocks to our happiness wherever we have 24 Sagittarius. Remember that all Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our lives. These losses clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer life substance can come forth. We’ve cleared out many old ideas, truths, habits, and perspectives since last Summer, and now have a wider view and deeper ways of regarding our life and the Life around us at the beginning of a new Aquarian era for humanity.
This is the fifth Full Moon with Jupiter in Aquarius! Jupiter is now racing forward, expanding the Aquarian energies which are being structured by Saturn over the next two years. This Full Moon launches unique Jupiterian expansions, as the Sun is conjunct Uranus and both are quintile Jupiter! This will help us anticipate and prepare for future conditions as we move into a time of radical transfiguration.
As you know from other articles, 2020 was the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which primed the pump for the 200 year Air era which began on the Solstice with Jupiter conjuncting Saturn at 1 Aquarius. However, we will still be “under the beams” of last year’s powerful conjunctions in Capricorn, since between January and March 2020 we began new Saturn/Pluto, Jupiter/Pluto, Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. The first of these launched a new 33 year era into motion.
Due to these conjunctions in late Capricorn and both Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn in Aquarius, we are in a long term period of finding wisdom by understanding transfiguration and enlightenment as verbs rather than nouns. We’ve now officially taken the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not yet “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. Since August we’ve been in the latter phase.
We’ve had the Sun in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At August’s Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo. The New Moon Sun two weeks ago was at 23 Aries and this Full Moon Sun is at 8 Taurus.
The last time we experienced this reverse order began at the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in late Leo and lasted until April 2019, when the Sun was in Aries in the New Moon as well as the subsequent Full Moon. The reversed pattern we just entered will last until August 2021, when we return to the natural order with the New Moon Sun at 17 Leo and the Full Moon Sun at 30 Leo/Aquarius.
Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now are in a sequence with the “Seed Light” of Aries coming to Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio. You can learn more about the recent New Moon at 23 Aries by checking out those two articles posted 2 weeks ago.
Planetary Distribution
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart the Sun at 8 Taurus and Mercury at 17 Taurus) is 9+ degrees. This month we see all the inner planets moving through Taurus. Leaving out the Lunar position, we continue to see the occupied span widen, moving from 137+ degrees a few weeks ago to 155+ now. Given the Moon is at the far side of the occupied span, we again have a Bucket Jones Pattern, with the primary focus created by FIVE planets between 8 Taurus and 3 Cancer.
We’re now into the second year of the short and long wave cycles set into motion by Great Compression conjunctions in Capricorn in January and March 2020. We had two Great Compressions in Capricorn; one in February 2019, and one which hit maximum compression in March 2020. These brought us “Bundle” Jones patterns, with everything bundled in a very narrow span this year, creating a crowded house wherever we have Capricorn through Taurus. Because Mars is now in Cancer, when the Moon is between Capricorn and Leo, we have a Bowl pattern.
At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 6 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, then moves through Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius, then Neptune in Pisces and finishes with Uranus in Taurus, with the inner planets now occupying Taurus with Mars in early Cancer. In this chart Pluto is again the entry planet to the occupied outer planet span between Cap and Taurus, which will be a feature for many years to come except when the Moon, inner planets, or Mars are in Sagittarius or early Capricorn. Transformation time!
As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Scorpio far away from the bundled planets, we again have a Bucket Jones pattern. With the oppositions this month, it is important to find and maintain the balance between the Taurus stellium and the Scorpionic expression.
The Bucket Pattern and how it works
Because the Bucket pattern has been in play during the times the Moon has been in Leo, Virgo and Libra, we’ve been challenged to use the Moon to express the energies of the Bundle between late Capricorn and early Cancer. In the Bucket, the Moon acts as the “handle,” or nozzle for focusing the energies of the rest. The handle, or focal determinator, represents the way to greater effectiveness, the cause to be embraced, the lack to be filled, or the way to use the total energies of this time in a focused manner.
Dr. Jones states “the Bucket type indicates a particular and rather uncompromising direction in the life effort.” This pattern gives “interest in a cause,” with executive tendencies that will adapt allegiances to maximize results of the effort. He says “the Bucket type at its best reveals the real instructor and inspirer of others, and at its worst the agitator and malcontent.” This is the larger planetary pattern within which we’re all trying to do what we do.
We are also told this pattern is more about finding an effective release for energy within social settings, but also about the individual imposing their patterns on society rather than adapting to what is there. It’s about focused intention. So all of us can expect some sort of focused attention on the house where we have 8 Scorpio.
As noted, Mars is now outside the outer planet occupied span and now has begun to create a Bowl pattern when the Moon is between Sagittarius and Leo. When Mars moves into Leo, Virgo, and Libra and the Moon is in the occupied span, Mars will become the nozzle for expressing the other planets. That will be off and on through the Summer and early Autumn.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I updated it in December, and incorporated a further look into the future.
For many weeks, we have been revisiting the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) as both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, Jupiter and Pluto were both biseptile Uranus, and Jupiter and Saturn were both septile Neptune. In this chart Mars activates the configuration by making a septile to Uranus and triseptile to Pluto. I’ll speak more about it in part 3 when I cover the special configurations.
The Sun will trigger the configuration over the next few days as it biseptiles Pluto, conjuncts Uranus, and septiles Neptune, again putting this “7-pointed Star of Destiny” evolutionary configuration into play. Obviously, this is triggered off and on throughout the year whenever a planet moves through any of the hot zones of the configuration. All of these transits bring choices, changes, and decisions affecting our future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
Because Saturn has now taken center stage in its home sign of Aquarius, it continues to be the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. That makes it a dominant force through April 2022. And because Jupiter is in Aquarius, Saturn continues to dominate center stage during the transits of Sagittarius and Pisces. That means Saturn will loom large over personal and global events each Winter for a while!
Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.
In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we needed in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.
I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Coupled with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.
The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.
Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.
On A Final Note
See you in the near future with parts two and three on this “illuminated independent will expressed as mental calm” Full Moon which will help us see the future and prepare us for the larger forces of transfiguration now in play. This two week period helps us anticipate the future as we measure how our personality is expressing our Soul. We’ve left some things behind in the recent past, and Saturn is about to bring us “short cuts to attainment” preparing us for even more important group work in 2022.
This Lunation will help us find a balanced approach with foresight about what’s coming so we may intelligently prepare for the multiple transfigurations of this year. Have faith, be compassionate, and rest easy as you open to a greater service within a larger spiritual fellowship and find yourself at times displaying powers beyond your comprehension.
The Sun lights the way to a greater enjoyment of life even as we realize the old answers cannot address new issues and needs. Be both seeker and warrior, remembering that all problems can be solved by directed spiritual understanding. Taurus opens new possibilities of enjoying life on our own terms, and this year it grounds the emerging Aquarian energies activated this year. This is the threshold of a new era, so be courageous as you “brave the storm.”
The new roles and responsibilities we took on in 2019-2020 will lead to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn have led us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, indicates our work for a long time to come. Again, look to where you have late Capricorn and early Aquarius in your chart to see the focus of coming years.
Because of the Mercury retrograde “bookend” theme of 2020, we now have found a higher, more diplomatic and dignified way of interacting with others over the past year. The October-November 2020 Mercury retrograde period gave us a look back to see how we’ve “raised our game” in our interactions, and its direct station at 26 Libra began the theme bookending 2021 involving how we use a combination of “soft power” and “hard power” to demonstrate spiritual adeptship. The most recent Mercury retrograde period gave us new information about expanding our dedication to our Soul’s ideal, and now we have a sense of where we’re at on the larger evolutionary ladder, seeing what must be left behind.
We’ve entered a new chapter in our spiritual journey at a fork in the road of our collective destiny. 2020 was about forging our connection with the World Soul, our Wisdom, and our greater dedication. We’re all wiser than we used to be, have been given ample opportunities to value our heart connections with our friends, and display the vaster spiritual awareness we share with our Brothers and Sisters.
We’ve stabilized the Capricorn promise of 2018 and 2019 as changes accelerate the on-going conflict between Saturn and Uranus. We are in a 20 year Aquarian sub-era which will change us and our world for decades to come, so be open at this Wesak to a new form of “Buddha wisdom” helping us eliminate all that is obsolete, stagnant, or irrelevant to the focus on receiving a higher wisdom indicated by this Full Moon.
This stabilizes our new beginnings, and shows us how our cooperation with Nature has blessed “the garden of Life and mind.” Keep moving forward, even if things seem intense and obscure at the same time. We’re still at a major turning point right before a huge transformation; This will help us set aside lesser things and focus on what really matters.
I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
