This Lunation redirects the energies of the recent Solar Eclipse into forms of personal power once we realize the past has no substance. It’s time to walk on at a major turning point!
This activating, initiating, and consolidating Full Moon set to release powerful forces in July occurs at 11:40 am PDT, 7:40 pm BST on June 24, and falls at the 4th degree of Cancer and Capricorn. As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. This is the Light of Caring and purification expressed in practical forms of power which cultivates our inner knowing and harmony.
Today’s Full Moon post will be an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover the Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
An Overview
This Full Moon is determinative, reorienting, and pragmatic. This one puts our ideals at a fork in the road, so be aware of inner arguments and debates about what of the past has value, and what must be left behind. The forming T-square is powerful, and offers us a chance to repair what we need to repair in order to “complete our experiment.” Let go of obsolete ideas, purify and transmute your interpretations, and there is a great “harmony of growth into virgin realms of experience” to be had.
As with all Full Moons, use the light you’ve been seeing and expressing since the New Moon, and give it form and focus to see how to anchor those themes in expression. This is the Light of a purified “Divine Caring” coming to surface as a technique to be used in claiming power in unfamiliar settings.
So what can we expect from the Lunation? This one gives us the ability to use our mind, purified by the recent Eclipse, to express our ability to perfect how we function during good times and still times. We’re still being impacted by revolutionary concepts, with ideas and perceptions being removed by the day.
Past As Prologue
The 2020 Eclipses moved us all in new directions, reorienting wherever we have 1 Cancer, and has been removing blocks to our happiness wherever we have 24 Sagittarius. Remember that all Eclipses are “Cosmic recyclers,” taking away what is obsolete or de-magnetized in our lives. These losses clean out psychic and physical spaces so newer life substance can come forth. We’ve cleared out many old ideas, truths, habits, and perspectives since last Summer, and now have a wider view and deeper ways of regarding our life and the Life around us at the beginning of a new Aquarian era for humanity.
We’re still at the very beginning of a new 20 year and 200 year era! We “graduated into a new realm of being” in May 2020, navigated the nonstop storms of July through October 2020, and now have the momentum aiming us toward a greater social contribution which can outlive us. In 2019 and 2020 we built the structures which we’ll use in 2021 and 2022 to grow into a greater contribution to our world and lives.
As you know from other articles, 2020 was the last year of a 200 year Earth era, with Air power building throughout the year which primed the pump for the 200 year Air era which began on the Solstice with Jupiter conjuncting Saturn at 1 Aquarius. However, we will still be “under the beams” of last year’s powerful conjunctions in Capricorn, since between January and March 2020 we began new Saturn/Pluto, Jupiter/Pluto, Mars/Jupiter, Mars/Pluto, and Mars/Saturn cycles. The first of these launched a new 33 year era into motion.
Due to these conjunctions in late Capricorn and both Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn in Aquarius, we are in a long term period of finding wisdom by understanding transfiguration and enlightenment as verbs rather than nouns. We’ve now officially taken the first step into the coming Aquarian era. While this is not yet “The Age of Aquarius,” this is the final intensification of those energies which will sprout seeds in the second quarter of the century which will take us across the threshold of the Great Age soon after 2050.
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
This is the twelfth of a series where the previous New Moon Sun is in a different sign than this Full Moon Sun. We can now take the “light of the natural instincts showing us the compelling power of fate” since the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini, and now apply it to new enlightened Cancer ways of “feeling our way forward.”
There are two patterns; one is when the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun, and the other is when the Full Moon Sun is in the next sign from the Sun in the previous New Moon. Since August 2020 we’ve been in the latter phase.
The Sun was in the same sign in both the New Moon and Full Moon, the so-called “natural” order, between April 2019 and August 2020. At the August 2020 Full Moon we entered the “reverse pattern” of the Sun of the Full Moon occupying the sign after the New Moon Sun, since the previous New Moon Sun was at 29 Cancer and that Full Moon Sun was at 12 Leo. The New Moon Solar Eclipse Sun two weeks ago was at 21 Gemini and this Full Moon Sun is at 4 Cancer.
The last time we experienced this reverse order began at the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in late Leo and lasted until April 2019, when the Sun was in Aries in the New Moon as well as the subsequent Full Moon. The reversed pattern we’re in will last until August 2021, when we return to the natural order with the New Moon Sun at 17 Leo and the Full Moon Sun at 30 Leo/Aquarius.
Since the New Moon offers us seeds in the first half of the month’s lunar cycle, and fulfillment in the second half, we now are in a sequence with the “Seed Light” of Gemini coming to Full Moon illumination through the current Sun in Cancer and Moon in Capricorn. You can learn more about the recent New Moon at 21 Gemini by checking out those two articles posted 2 weeks ago.
Planetary Distribution
In this Full Moon, the span occupied by the inner planets (in this chart Mercury at 17 Gemini through Venus at 28 Cancer) is 40+ degrees, a very wide span. This month we see all the inner planets moving through Gemini and Cancer. If we add Mars and Uranus to either side of the Gemini-Cancer span, we find 5 planets in an 84+ degree span between mid-Taurus and early Leo. This will be the primary area stimulated in our charts.
We now are at a time of the year when the inner planets are at the far side of the outer planet occupied span, so that now (leaving out the Lunar position), we see the unoccupied span is 167+, almost a perfect split between the occupied half and the unoccupied half. Given the Moon is now the planet leading the outer planet span, we continue with an imperfect Bowl Jones Pattern, with the primary focus created by FIVE planets between 13 Taurus and 9 Leo.
We’re now into the second year of the short and long wave cycles set into motion by Great Compression conjunctions in Capricorn in January and March 2020. We had two Great Compressions in Capricorn; one in February 2019, and one which hit maximum compression in March 2020. These brought us “Bundle” Jones patterns, with everything bundled in a very narrow span this year, creating a crowded house wherever we have Capricorn through Taurus. Because Mars is now in Leo, when the Moon is between Capricorn and Leo, we have a Bowl pattern.
At this time we have the 10 traditional planets occupying 7 signs. Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in late Capricorn, then moves through Saturn in Aquarius and Jupiter in early Pisces, then Neptune in late Pisces and finishes with Uranus in mid-Taurus, with the inner planets now occupying Gemini and Cancer and Mars out front as herald in Leo.
In this chart (the only one for months in the past and future) the Moon, rather than Pluto, is the entry planet to the occupied outer planet span between Cap and Taurus, extended to Leo by the inner planets and Mars. So this month is an anomaly for the norm, which is Pluto being the entry planet for many years to come except when the Moon, inner planets, or Mars are in Sagittarius or early Capricorn. For the next two weeks, rather than approach experience through Pluto, we will enter experience using the Moon.
As noted, the Jones patterns in the sky now change mainly due to the position of the Moon. With this Full Moon in Capricorn approaching the bundled planets with oppositions across two different axes, we again have a Bowl Jones pattern.
The Bowl Pattern and how it works
This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately half of the signs with an empty half opposite the occupies half, creates a “special type of conscious selfhood,” which Dr. Jones says “marks the Bowl type of temperament. He goes on to state “Fundamentally it is an extreme self-containment,” which “holds things, and a Bowl individual is one who always has something to bear.”
He goes on to state that with the Bowl, “the whole dynamic of man, his total power of achievement, arises in his instinctive realization that he is set off against a definite part of the world, that there is a complete segment of experience from which he is excluded in some subtle fashion. The Bowl not only holds something, but also places whatever it holds into relationship with a larger consideration.”
Dr. Jones continues that “the occupied segment of the Bowl horoscope reveals the activity and organization of the self, since planets are significant according to their place by sign and house, and the unoccupied segment becomes a challenge to existence, or the need and emptiness to which the native must direct his attention. The outstanding characteristic of the Bowl temperament is its marked sense of what is self-contained in contrast with what the self cannot hold, and this take an everyday form in an advocacy of some cause, the furtherance of a mission, an introspective concern over the purpose of experience.”
He concludes his explanation of how the pattern works with “The Bowl native always has something to give to his fellows, whether literally or psychologically, whether constructively or vindictively, because his orientation to the world arises from division; that is, frustration and uncertainty. The leading planets, determined in exactly the same way as for the Locomotive pattern, give a point of application, and shows where and how the native seeks to carry out his mission or gain his everyday justification for existence.”
He brings up another important point of analysis, as he states “the leading planet is of secondary importance in the Bowl pattern, unless it is found in a strong opposition or cosmic cross. The fundamental attack on the problems of life by the Bowl individual is indicated more significantly by the tilt or house-position of the Bowl-segment.”
He concludes this section by stating “the Bowl character is definitely more self-expending, or self-seeking, and more practically interested in what things mean and what they are. It continually throws the emphasis from the signs into the houses. It a general way the Bowl tends to ‘scoop up’ things and initiate experience when the position of the leading planet ranges from the fourth cusp, up and over the ascendant, to the midheaven cusp, and then inclines to “capture” things or consummate various phases of life when the leading planet is placed similarly from the tenth angle down over the descendant to the nadir.”
The Bowl Pattern we’ve begun will always have Pluto as the leading planet (except for this one time for months to come!), and for now, has Mars in Leo as the closing planet. With Moon and Pluto in Capricorn leading the concentration of planets, and thus the entry to the entire pattern, it shows we need to be immediately focused, disciplined and organized as we continue our deep transformation which has brought us to our symbolic mountaintop, where we have found other seekers for the highest. As the Moon is caring, defensive, and “self-gathering,” and Pluto is relentless in its purifying power, this is a time to note the seeds of the future, and use disciplined “Economy of Energy” to find a sensitivity to our inner knowing as per the Saturn degree ruling Pluto.
Find “divine efficiency” while seeing the good and bad seeds in situations to initiate experience with an eye to the long haul restructuring going on in all our lives, as well as society. The Moon shows this may be initiated in abnormal or unfamiliar circumstances. Pluto opening shows a long term period of purification and transformation under the divine hand of Shiva. Get your Saturn skills in shape, and Pluto won’t be so fearsome! I explain why in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend.
With Mars in Leo closing the Bowl, all of our experience will become final (if only temporarily) when we find new techniques to express our emotional intensity, purified of old ideas and expressions, now harmonized with heart power. This will leave us with a real sense of what feeds our heart fire so we may express it with harmony, consistency, and strength as we move through life experience. This leads with actional Crystallization and individual spiritual Group Performance, and closes with emotional and social Combustion.
Except for this month, since Pluto will continue to open the span of experience for months to come, and Mars in Leo will end the span of experience this month and early July, see every “entry to experience” to focus your efficiency and ability to express your Higher Self with precision, moving through the “big picture” duties and opportunities of Saturn in Aquarius, going deeper into the flow via Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces, seeing our higher consecration in Taurus, and launching it all in diverse ways in Gemini, reorienting and consolidating in Cancer, and expressing it creatively or in heartfelt ways in Leo!
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
Because this section is so long, I decided to create an article which explains what it is, how long it’s been in effect, and which zones of the zodiac have been most impacted and when. You can find all you need to know about this configuration associated with widespread irrationality and hard-edged “forks in the road of destiny” we’ve all confronted at various times by going to The Grand Irrationality. I updated it in December, and incorporated a further look into the future.
We revisited the energies of the First Grand Irrationality (1993-2017) when both Saturn and Uranus were septile Neptune, Jupiter and Pluto were both biseptile Uranus, and Jupiter and Saturn were both septile Neptune not long ago. In this chart the Sun activates the configuration by making a septile to Uranus and biseptile to Neptune. I’ll speak more about it in part 3 when I cover the special configurations.
Mercury will next trigger the configuration when it enters Cancer and triseptiles Pluto, septiles Uranus, and biseptiles Neptune, again putting this “7-pointed Star of Destiny” evolutionary configuration into play. That will be followed by Venus and Mars in late Leo forming a Kite of double triseptiles to Neptune and Pluto with biseptile to Uranus. Obviously, this is triggered off and on throughout the year whenever a planet moves through any of the hot zones of the configuration. All of these transits bring choices, changes, and decisions affecting our future. These “Grand Irrationality” triggers are why things are so crazy and hard-edged at this time.
Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend
Because Saturn continues to occupy center stage in its home sign of Aquarius, it continues to be the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius from now through 2023. Though its influence has temporarily waned now that Jupiter is in Pisces, when Jupiter retrogrades back into Aquarius Saturn will again be its ruler and resume being a dominant force through April 2022.
Remember that while Saturn can feel heavy, it is also our ability to take command of our lives and destiny by using Saturn’s virtues in the right way and time. Our ability to steer our “ship of personality” into its rightful “role of destiny” has brought us to the threshold of new parts to play on the stage of Life.
In 2019 we rehearsed and perfected roles and skills we needed in 2020 and beyond as part of the Saturn-Uranus “dance of individualization” in our lives. We’ve begun to crystallize present and future rewards, as well as new group work and roles opening new chapters in our “hero’s journey” into a higher quality of Being awakened by Uranus.
I explain how Saturn and Uranus awaken us to our Higher Powers to take conscious command of our destiny in my book Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend. Saturn helps us give form and structure to our quest for Self-realization; in Capricorn, it teaches us how to accept and use personal power within a socially responsible context, while in Aquarius it teaches us how to make a greater contribution to our civilization and come together with others in a great effort “ensouled by a great vision.” Coupled with Uranus awakening a “new quality of Being rendering the old patterns obsolete,” we are collectively challenged “to break on through to the other side” in expressing our unfolding Higher Consciousness.
The book was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers. Even those with little or no understanding of astrology will benefit from understanding why you had to make certain choices at crucial times that shaped your life in profound ways.
Each time you read any section of this book you will find new insights about your power to throw off all the attitudes and memories which hold you back from finding and living the life and purpose. If you’ve haven’t already gotten your copy, you can go to the Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend page on Amazon and this should be all you need to order your copy. It’s also available on Amazon and as an ebook on Kindle, so if that’s more to your liking, go for it! If you would, whether you’ve gotten the ebook or the paperback, please write a review on the Amazon site, since the more reviews, the more of a boost they give it.
On A Final Note
See you in the near future with parts two and three on this Full Moon which will help us reorient, and find harmony as we move into unfamiliar realms. This two week period helps us organize our actions as we accept power and responsibility in our spiritual group work.
This Lunation will help us grow toward “new vistas of concrete, conscious development,” demonstrated by our connection to allowing our vitality to be expressed through the power of our minds. Just as the last Total Lunar Eclipse Full Moon promised good things from our “review of views” promised by Mercury on its retrograde station, this one promises new skills in expressing ourselves due to Mercury on its direct station.
We enter a time where caring, creativity, and kindness helps us prepare us for what’s coming in 2022. This is a year of completing the “vision of Transfiguration” and entering into a new life. Next year and 2023 will make our Transfigured Being “real” in our world. Recent eclipses are accelerating our elimination of all the ideas we cannot bring with us into our new life as they would scatter our energies.
The new roles and responsibilities we took on in 2019-2020 are leading us to new social effectiveness in 2021 and 2022. The compressions in Capricorn led us to forms of personal power, and being very long wave cycles, indicates our work for a long time to come. Again, look to where you have late Capricorn and early Aquarius in your chart to see the focus of coming years.
Because of the Mercury retrograde “bookend” theme of 2020, we now have found a higher, more diplomatic and dignified way of interacting with others over the past year. The October-November 2020 Mercury retrograde period gave us a look back to see how we’ve “raised our game” in our interactions, and its direct station at 26 Libra began the theme bookending 2021 involving how we use a combination of “soft power” and “hard power” to demonstrate spiritual adeptship.
We understand more about the year theme now that we’re done looking back during the recent Mercury RX period in Gemini. The February Mercury retrograde period gave us new information about expanding our dedication to our Soul’s ideal, and due to the events between February and now, we have a sense of where we’re at on the larger evolutionary ladder, seeing what must be left behind. Mercury on its stationary degree at this Lunation indicates that the “pruning and shaping” theme of the recent retrograde a) removed much which would obscure our chosen form of expression, and/or b) removed all which would obscure the knowledge we need to find. We now can move forward unencumbered by mental clutter.
We’ve entered a new chapter in our spiritual journey at a fork in the road of our collective destiny. 2020 was about forging our connection with the World Soul, our Wisdom, and our greater dedication. We’re all wiser than we used to be, have been given ample opportunities to value our heart connections with our friends, and display the vaster spiritual awareness we share with our Brothers and Sisters.
Because we are in a season of T-squares from planets in Leo opposed to Saturn in Aquarius and square Uranus in Taurus, be aware of what you do and do not want to attract, remembering your “experiment in an improvised lab nears success,” and the main strength in this time is to maintain inner harmony as we outwit something or someone. Use your Soul expression to strengthen the line of communication, and push on into distant unknown regions of conscious participation in using heart power to strengthen the world.
Now that Mercury is making its third and final square to Neptune, many things should be clearer than they were before. Though squares to Neptune often make things obscure or confused, it doesn’t matter, as long as you maintain your equilibrium as you move into vaster realizations. We’re still at a major turning point literally in the heart of a huge transformation; This will help us set aside lesser things and focus on what really matters.
I’ll see you soon when we’ll discuss Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
