It’s been a while since I offered you anything from my book “Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend” related to how the dance of Saturn and Uranus gives us a clear path to spiritual fulfillment. Though I’ve hinted at this in several other articles, today we expand our sense of how these two planets take us from the unreal to the real, and from fear and limitation into our higher destiny.
In what you’re about to read, Dharma is a Sanskrit word meaning “true function,” and is the equivalent of the Tao in Chinese philosophy. While these are difficult to define, it has been said “the Tao that can be discussed is not the whole Tao.” It is the same with Dharma. Dharma is beyond karma. Dharma is our “ultimate destiny to be,” where all roads lead to Dharma and Dharma can neither be avoided nor postponed in each moment of its unfoldment. We all have a Dharma, but most never fulfill it to any great degree without embracing the dance of Saturn and Uranus.
From Chapter 4, “Saturn, Dharma, and Karma,”
Because each stage of life and evolution, once mastered, opens doors to a more advanced Life and evolution, it is easy to see that both Saturn and Uranus have associations with Dharma. Uranus symbolizes our eternal freedom to explore all there is in the eternity and infinity of existence. While Saturn binds us to certain lessons until we master them, Uranus always calls us to embrace the adventure of accepting complete autonomy and an ever expanding individuality.Whereas Saturn shows us reality, Uranus offers us inspiration and flashes of genius. While Saturn binds us to the causes and effects related to destiny, Uranus offers us on-going individualizing experiences where we demonstrate our freedom to cut loose from those things which trap us in restrictive patterns inhibiting our growth. While Saturn binds us through fear of the unknown, Uranus throws us into the unknown NOW with every breath we take.
Saturn and Uranus represent the boundaries of our imagination and the gateway to creative individuality. When we learn to use these energies wisely, each in the right way and time, our potential is limitless, and each thing we master, acquired through practice and patience, becomes our individual path to freedom and higher purpose.
Uranus awakens us to the power of creative imagination. Saturn helps us structure imagination into forms of creative visualization. We have the power of creative visualization any time we want to use it. In the quest to fulfill Dharma, we have to learn what to dream and how to dream with an eye to what can and cannot be accomplished of our own will.
Since Dharma rules all, we can learn a lot by examining where Spirit and Matter meet within us, the critical zone between our inspiration and the realities of life. This is where the eternal freedom of Uranus dances with the binding forms of Saturn we live within, until we cast off those old Saturn forms for newer forms that are adequate containers so our Divine Self-expression can naturally come forth.
While we are Eternals having human experiences, not all human experiences are ours to own, since some are not appropriate to who we are and what we’re here to learn. While we may embrace countless experiences, many of these have a very short time span as we walk our walk, since we evolve with every choice we make. What may be appropriate for a period of time when we’re younger may not be allowed at all as we mature into greater spiritual awareness and purpose.
Uranus is the eternal spark of Divine individuality symbolizing revolutionary movements that we often do not comprehend. Saturn binds, while Uranus liberates. We have both forces working on us all the time, in both material and non-material ways. Dealing with these two simultaneously occurring forces teaches us how to “make our freedom real,” while living a constant revolution in how we view forms that temporarily bring us security. Uranus is ungrounded inspired individual freedom eternally exploring infinite possibilities, while Saturn teaches us the limits of our ability to shape certain elements of our ex-pressed reality within the fourth dimensional field of time.
*********
As many of you already know, this book opens the door to “making friends” with our inner Saturn and the power we have to shape our responses and therefor our destiny, consciously and responsibly. Traditionally, Saturn represents that which limits us and holds us back. However, in dealing with the inner and outer forces which make our lives a struggle from time to time, we learn what we have to learn to become greater than those forces which oppress us. By knowing our Saturn qualities, its strengths and virtues, we can overcome fear and any sense of victimization or powerlessness.
I wrote it for both astrologers and non-astrologers, so beyond the astrological terms, you’ll see why some things happened when they did, in the context of pushing and pulling you toward your higher destiny and function on Earth. Each chapter offers you different facets of how Soul growth unfolds, with the chapter this passage was taken from specifically focused on how our Saturn lessons relate to Dharma (our Highest Spiritual Function) and various types of karma, both those we cause and those which are "Sacred Wounds" leading us to a greater compassion and understanding.
We also explore how Saturn, representing our “Ring-Pass-Not,” shows our temporary limitations and boundaries as we learn certain lessons about who we are and why we can or cannot do certain things. As we expand our understanding (Saturn) and wisdom (Uranus) then our Ring-Pass-Not expands so we can find purpose and meaning in each chapter of life. Saturn holds the secret to using our power to guide our evolution and become conscious of why we are on Earth.
The second part of the book examines how Saturn cycles mark major points of choice and change throughout life, and what we can expect when Saturn makes conjunctions, squares, and oppositions to our planets and Ascendant. There are tables of when Saturn was in each sign, so even those with little or no understanding of astrology can track the timing on their major life changes. There is an entire chapter dedicated to the Saturn Return, perhaps the most important times in life when our decisions profoundly shape our future.
Part two closes with a chapter on one of the most crucial factors in our personal unfoldment: how the progressed Moon and transiting Saturn cycles track each other throughout life and relate to our emotional growth, and a chapter on a global phenomenon happening since 2003 impacting everyone on Earth. The Epilogue offers a few insights about living “the spiritual life,” and opens dimensions of higher and broader possibilities of personal evolution, regardless of which path to Truth we may be on.
This is a book you will reference many times for many reasons, and each time you pick it up you’re sure to find undiscovered gems of insight on each page. This book can help you throw off all the attitudes and memories which have held you back from finding and living the life and purpose you’ve been searching for since you were young. Welcome to the journey of self-discovery, and finding your power to live your life on your own terms, fulfilling your reason for being alive as an Eternal having human experiences!
